My hubby and I love Spanish food. We had seafood paella cravings, were beheaded for Fofo in Soho, but then on our way to Fofo, typed the word "paella" in the openrice app and discovered this place. Fandango turned out to be a jackpot for us.They had set lunch and we were very happy with it as it was comprised of bread/appetiser, soft drink, soup/salad/appetiser, main dish, dessert and regular coffee/tea. Garlic shrimp was amazing- crispy garlic slices and fresh shrimps in sizzling hot olive oil. As good as that we get in Spain. Chorizo was also good. We brought back some chorizo from Barcelona last year, finished it and my hubby was yearning for it. At his first bite, he said he was happy.
We both went for seafood paella. It was mild in taste at first as it was only cooked in seafood bisque but as the paella cooled down and as we ate, the seafood flavour came out increasingly. i.e. It was increasingly yummy. I could tell they did not use msg to make it taste strong.
We like mild and blend flavours anyway, so appreciated the paella very much but for those who like strong tastes might dislike it.
The dessert was a little disappointing as pumpkin cake was almost stale- as if it had been sitting in a bread box for a few days unsold. But my churros with chocolate was fairly nice though it was not piping hot/freshly made. The dough texture was close to what you get in a Spanish home. (I went on language exchange programmes twice in Spain and home stayed while studying there. My guardian was also Spanish, so I am very used to various types of Spanish food)
Next time, we will avoide pumpkin cakes. Apart from it, we were extremely pleased with the food on the whole. Service wise, the waiter who served us most of the time was brutally unkind. I complimented on my first dish when he came to clear the table, but he completely ignored me and showed no response. He throughout our meal was expressionless, very stiff and dry. My hubby was annoyed but I tried to make him feel better by smiling- I did not want to ruin our meal.
The other waiter was so kind and heartwarmingly polite. So I expect to see him more next time we visit the restaurant.
In terms of food quality, atmosphere and price, I highly recommend this place. But if you think service is what matters, then don't go. Me? I am going to revisit despite the unkind man because food matters the most to me.
