I have a lot of Singaporean friends who have taken me out for amazing food in Singapore, so I was ecstatic when Hainan Shaoye first opened! I am a huge fan of theirs and love their Lobster Laksa and their Hainan Chicken rice.LAKSA:The balance of creaminess, spice and lobster flavour of the laksa broth was excellent! LAKSA:
The balance of creaminess, spice and lobster flavour of the laksa broth was excellent! The portion was big and it was generous with other ingredients.
CHICKEN:
As for their Hainan chicken rice, it felt very healthy - the chicken was tender and the rice was flavourful without being 5000 calories. The dipping sauces complemented the dish really well. The vegetables could be cooked better as they felt a bit overcooked.
BLACK RADDISH CAKE:
Pretty tasty but it was a little bit too sweet.
SERVICE:
The service was fair, although at times I wonder if it's smart to let people make reservations, because I had to queue and when I came in there were several empty tables marked as reserved and those people didn't show up for 50 minutes? They could have seated someone else who could have finished that meal at that time.
PRICE:
For nice decor, comfy environment and ocean view - I think the price is very fair.
MSG:
Neither me nor my friends have ever had an MSG headache from eating there.
Last note: I was also excited to hear from my Sing friends that a famous Sing chef is opening another Singaporean restaurant located near Hainan Shaoye, but I also heard that they decided launched a PR smear campaign against Hainan Shaoye by writing nasty false reviews on openrice.com etc. Reason - their head chef's pride was hurt and so he wants to destroy someone else's hard work. In business sometimes things don't always work out, usually there is a good reason, but writing false negative reviews with malicious intent is pretty low. I hope both restaurants can work things out and remember the importance of GRACE. If you are buddhist - think about Karma or if you are Christian think about what the bible says about how you should treat your enemies? Pray for them.
