Dinner for 2. Highly recommended by friend who lives in the neighborhood. Restaurant is on the first floor of a residential building. Whilst waiting for the elevator at the lobby, saw the notices telling people to clear up their own vomit. (Hope that wasn’t directed at guests of the restaurant..)Homey decor.Friendly server passed us the menus, gave a brief intro on their signatures and opened our bottle of wine (free corkage.)Here’s what we had. Friendly server passed us the menus, gave a brief intro on their signatures and opened our bottle of wine (free corkage.)
Here’s what we had.
Loaf of bread with olives, fresh out the oven. Salted butter and salmon butter.
Deep fried bacalhau (Portuguese for dried and salted cod) and potato balls. Crispy skin; mildly fishy inside.
A quarter suckling pig. Crispy overall; but only a few meaty pieces. Condiments were good.
Traditional Baked Rice with Shredded Duck Meat and Chouriço Sausage. A very popular Portuguese comfort food, normally people would brown and slow-cook the duck; make a delicious broth, cook the rice in the broth, and then finish off the dish in the oven. I enjoyed ours: crispy rice and tender duck.
Portuguese Stir-fried cabbage. Cabbage was lightly sautéed in olive oil with bits of chouriço sausage; texture was crisp (not too tender); richly flavorful as the cabbage absorbed the smokey flavor of the chouriço.
No dessert; busy with the wine.
In summary: yummy, homey and relaxing Portuguese meal. Not too familiar with Portuguese or Macanese cuisine to comment on authenticity tho. Not thirsty afterwards. Tempted to return to try the pork knuckle. Excellent service. There was some talk on booking out the entire restaurant for a big group for HK$15k on a weekday. Would be fun.
