Cooler weather causes me to always want hotpot. So, boyfriend and I decided to try out Nabe Urawa. We always seem to go to Mou Mou Club as our place of choice for all you can eat shabu shabu but always up for trying other places. But for some reason, we always go back to Mou Mou Club as we haven't found a better replacement.Nabe Urawa is an all you can eat shabu shabu restaurant that is fairly mainstream. Nabe Urawa is an all you can eat shabu shabu restaurant that is fairly mainstream. They are located throughout the city in shopping malls. The latest one is in Causeway Bay's Hysan Place. They have several prices based on beef grading and if you want seafood or not. Dining time is 90 minutes. We chose the lowest grade beef, pork and chicken for $178. As it was the weekend, there was an additional $10 surcharge.
We chose a pork bone soup base. It taste mostly of msg and no real pork bone taste. They also constantly refill your pot with water so it gets more and more watered down as the time goes. A good point is they refill without asking. I also found the pot to shallow so it was always over boiling.
The beef was a decent quality.
The pork was ok as well. The chicken was alright.
The thing with this place is they have a huge variety of cooked dishes in the buffet area. They seemed to have even sushi.
They were ok. The spring rolls were crispy and hot.
The curry rice was ok.
They even had fake shark fin soup.
The hotpot ingredients are also available in the buffet area. Vegetables were fresh. But the balls were pretty terrible. They just tasted like flour. The hotpot items weren't as varied as the cooked food.
They have ice ceam but if you like their Facebook page, they will give you one container of Movenpick ice cream.
Overall, the meat was fine. The hotpot ingredients were not as varied and the balls were pretty terrible. I guess if you want cooked food, then this is perhaps more you're style as they had a huge variety to choose from. But if you are here to hot pot, I felt it was a bit overpriced for what they offer. So, I'll be back at Mou Mou Club again.
