I came for dinner the week after they opened and of course the service was excellent, the restaurant being fairly quiet that night.
We had the:
Sesame dressing salad
Good if not very exciting. A bit too much dressing for my taste as well.
Uni squid ink toast
Expensive but the uni was delicious and goes very well with toast.
Sushi omakase
Very good as well, but doesn't seem quite in-line with the prior dishes.
Menu is interesting but a little too varied for me - hope someone can post a menu as i don't have a picture. They are mostly fusion but also serve traditional sushi and sashimi, which i believe to be a bit misguided. They should stick to their strengths which are combining new flavors with classic preparation - the uni toast was a perfect example.
Further, the location in Sheung Wan is not in a particular upscale area, and so the price point they are targeting, in my opinion, is too high. Although I don't believe it's that overpriced for the food itself, they may be pricing themselves out of that neighborhood. Dinner cost somewhere between 300-400 each with some wine and frankly not that much food.
The chefs are from Zuma, which explains their skill, and i look forward to trying it again in a few months when the chefs have figured out their menu.
