I've been disappointed with the German food in Hong Kong. Not super disappointed, mind you; I spent my last 7 years in New Jersey and I don't think I ate at a German restaurant once my entire time there. So it's nice that there are options, but King Ludwig isn't really setting the bar all that high.(No offense to Austrians, but I'm just going to call this German food from here on out.)The meal started with bread. The meal started with bread. I tried to lay off, because I knew we ordered way too much and I needed to save room.

Altfrankisch Klosterbier-- never seen this before, decided I had to try it. It was good, but not heavenly.

We were a little confused about the raclette and asking about it didn't seem to help. If you want to know, the portion is something like an appetizer for four. It's sort of like ordering queso at a Tex-Mex place. You know you don't want *that much* cheese, but do you really not want any cheese at all? It's a conundrum. The cheese is good-- crispy and gooey. B+
Small Sausage Sampler

We were worried the small sausage sampler would be too big for us, given that it's significantly pricier than the regular sausage plates. But it's a very reasonable portion size. The interior sausage in the picture was the cheese wurst, and I wasn't really a fan (it's like melted American cheese on a hotdog, except in a hotdog). The other two sausages were good, though I think I'd've been fine with just a plate of weisswurst or bratwurst. The fries were meh. B-
Pork Schnitzel

I just got the pork schnitzel, cuz to get the veal you needed to get the mushroom sauce and (a) that makes it too soggy and (b) that mushroom sauce is always a bit too sweet for my taste. Not that I lived there for a significant amount of time, but I was born in Germany. Growing up, my parents frequently made schnitzel and pan-fried potatoes, so this is serious comfort food for me. The potatoes were really good-- though not as good as my dad's-- and the schniztel was great-- better, I'd say, than my parents make it (though please don't tell them). Altogether, B+

(Note: I liked the schnitzel at the now-closed Frites in LKF better. Whether the other Frites are just as good, I cannot say.)

I was happy with the meal, but I still feel that there's better sausage AND schnitzel to be had, so I won't unreservedly recommend this place. It's cramped (my legs barely fit at our table), the music choices are... odd (e.g. "do what you want with my body"), and the beer selection is surprisingly limited. Also, sauerkraut is $58 for a side (!!!), when of course it should come free with the sausages. It's good and all, but it could be way better.
題外話/補充資料: There are almost no seats in the restaurant and you need a reservation.
