譚仔三哥米線 (English name : Tam Jai) is a fast food chain that serves sour and spicy vermicelli noodes. It's popular among everyone I seem to know and they always seem shocked I have never been there. In my defense, I really can't eat spicy food so this was not a place that I wanted to try out. So, boyfriend made it his mission to check this place off my foodie bucket list. And he finally got to do it when he found out that this branch of Tam Jia was a theme restaurant starring Hong Kong's famous c
Yes, Brother Cream. Move over Grumpy Cat cost in Hong Kong, we have one famous cat. And his name is Brother Cream. The famous cat atracts tourists and a lot of locals as he lounges about at the newspaper stand in Tsim Sha Tsui East. They snap photos of him while he sleeps on top of newspapers. Like every celebrity, the famous cat has a facebook page, product endorsements, books, souveniers for sale and now? A theme restaurant.
And like every celebrity, his own charity. A portion of the sales at this branch will go to Brother Cream's charity to help stray anmals in Hong Kong.
The whole restaurant is decorated with cartoon drawings of the cat.
. You're even greeted with a statue of the cat along with the Tam Jai owner. There is even a timeline of the history of the cat on one wall. In one corner of the restaurant, there is a display case of souveniers of the cat. A place for fans to leave notes for the famous feline. The menu is decorated with various drawings of the cat. Menu is the same as all the other restaurants only design is different.. Menu is in English and Chinese. Ordering is easy. You choose a soup base (basically from nonspicy to spicy) and what you want to add to it like cart noodles. The bowls all have drawings of the cat. I ordered a nonspicy broth as I can't eat spicy. Beansprouts, beancurd and chives is included. I added cuttlefish balls, enoki mushrooms and fish beancurd. Total price $39. Broth was ok. Nothing special. But the vermicelli was really chewy and I liked it. It wasn't mushy at all and stayed chewy throughout my meal! I liked it! The items I added were fairly average. Boyfriend had the spicy soup version. He added fish cakes and minced pork. This totalled out to $34. The minced pork was served on the side. I tried some. Didn't really like it as it tasted like soybean paste and not like meat at all. It was mushy and had a baby food like texture. We shared a plate of hunan chicken wings. Five pieces for $30. Didn't like it at all. There was just too much of every kind of herb that it was just a mess. The noodles were ok. I liked it enough. Though won't really come back again as majority is spicy and my choices were very limited. Portion size of the noodles were huge especially for the price you pay for. Good value for money! For a theme restaurant, they really went all out and outdid themselves. There are plenty of pictures of the cat every where. From the layout to the bowls to the menu. Good for fans of the cat or any cat fan in general.
