A friend came into town from New York City so I decided to take him out to try some local specialties. Since he had never had typhoon shelter crab (避風塘炒蟹) I decided to take him to Under Bridge Spicy Crab (橋底辣蟹). Anyway, ended up being 4 of us for dinner.

Environment: I think this is their new shop so it was quite spacious. The place is pretty bare bones but not uncomfortable.

Service: Outside of 1 time where it took me a few minutes to flag down a waiter I think service was relatively friendly and efficient. Food came quickly. A lot of times with Chinese restaurants in HK people complain about the lack of service but it was pretty decent here.

Food: We ended up over-ordering since my friend was from out of town and wanted to make sure he tried everything.

Conch Cooked in Wine (辣酒煮花螺) - Tasted ok. A little bland and overcooked personally. I have this huge thing with finding sand in shellfish and sadly I bit into some sand while I was chewing. That totally ruins the dish for me.

Oyster & Meat Congee (肉碎蠔仔粥) - To me this was the star of the meal. The congee was really flavorful and 'sweet' from the oysters. The congee itself is a little more watery (so it looks more like rice in some milky colored water) but it was still pretty good. Would definitely order this again.

Under Bridge Spicy Crab (橋底炒蟹) - It is not bad but I was kind of disappointed since this is their 'signature' dish. We ordered medium spicy. Spice was pretty nice but I think the crab was slightly overcooked. Also I feel the spice had not penetrated into the crab meat yet. The crab itself was decently flavorful.

Salt & Pepper Mantis Prawn (椒鹽瀨尿蝦) - Although not fantastic I think this was better than their spicy crab. Meat was juicy and flavorful. I'm a big fan of big bold flavors so I quite liked this dish.

Fried Rice (揚州炒飯) - One of my friends does eat that spicy so he ordered a fried rice. Pretty average.

Stir fried Scallop with Gai Lan (扇貝炒芥蘭) - Actually not bad. Scallops were pretty fresh and the gai lan (Chinese broccoli) was pretty tasty. This was our 'vegetable' dish of the night.

Overall I thought the meal was quite decent. Definitely it was a little disappointing that the spicy crab wasn't better (plus there was sand in the conch) but the Oyster & Meat Congee and Salt & Pepper Mantis Prawn did partially make up for it. My friend suggested next time we go to Hee Kee Fried Crab (喜記避風塘炒辣蟹) down the street since he said their crab was better. Not a bad meal. Would consider coming back here next time but I'd order a little differently.
