As mentioned in the title, my friend thought the restaurant was named One night in Taipei. When I typed in openrice to search I couldn't find such restaurant 😂 It turns out that the name is The Night Market. The restaurant is very near where my friend's office. We had a table booked at 7pm for 4 of us. The place isn't that big, I'd say it fits around 20 people but you wouldn't feel crowded. We were recommended to try their freshly brewed beers so we ordered two. (Both 1 pint sizes) For food we ordered a few to share between us: fried chicken, satay beef with vegetables, hongshao beef with noodles, mince pork with rice (滷肉飯) and duck egg yolk with bitter melon.
The food presentation looks great but tastewise requires more flavour and perhaps better quality meat. The rice and fried chicken (served with thai chilli sauce) were great. The hongshao beef with noodles was requested by us to be less spicy, it came out not spicy but quite bland. Wished that the beef flavour to be stronger. The satay beef with vegetable wasn't spicy too. Would be great if the beef is fresh, the texture tasted a bit 'old'. The duck egg yolk with bitter melon is ok, I've had this dish somewhere else before and I'd prefer a crunchier texture. 😋
Overall the service was good, the atmosphere was good (the area wasn't too noisy and great for chit-chats). Would be great to see some improvement in the food. The price is alright in the central district. The freshly brewed beers have no preservatives and have a light taste. Great for those who don't like strong flavours 🍻🍽
