When I was in Tokyo, I came across this shop that sold the most beautiful fruit tarts. There were so many but I was too full from dinner to have a slice. Located in Lee Tung Avenue, is a shop with a number of pretty fruit tarts. It's brought here by Pan de Pain, the popular pancake shop in Tsim Sha Tsui.
The front of the shop is for take away only.. They have a number of fruit tarts on display.
But they have an upstairs area where you can dine in. I decided to sit down and have a slice.
Menu is in English and Chinese. The upstairs dining area has 10% service charge. Take away does not. Even if you dine in, you pay when you leave at the cashier downstairs. The menu has all the various tarts and a photo of them.
They also serve coffee and tea.
I ordered a latte ($42). The coffee wasn't too good. A bit rough in texture and far too much milk. Perhaps I should have tried the tea instead.
I also ordered a strawberry tart ($58) as that was my main purpose here. The tart was layered with super sweet strawberries. It was on top of some sweet fluffy whipped cream, a layer of moist sponge cake and a layer of creamy custard. It was like a strawberry short cake in tart form. DELICIOUS! The custard was creamy and not too rich. It was fairly light. The crust was crumbly and sweet. The slice wasn't very big and I wish there was more.
Delighted that there is a place that sells this now for I love tarts more than cake. The tart was pretty yet delicious. Not too heavy despite all the cream and custard. Coffee I will skip next time. I'll be back.
