Qi is not your typical Sichuan food joint. Its classy, modern and big. The food also comes out with a modern, fusion twist. Its ideal for non-traditional Sichuan eats. Think more ‘Kung Pao Chicken’ (which ironically IS on the menu)…however there are definitely some standouts in this place! The menu covers a lot. There’s ‘Mala’, ‘Spicy’, Vegetarian, and Signature choices to choose from. Beware..SPICY Stuff. I’ve never downed soooo much water in one sitting. One great thing- the staff constantly comes to check up to see if you need water!

We start the night with some semi spicy mini dishes…I forgot to picture it! But it was a spicy sweet kimchi, hot radishes, and freshly baked potato chips.

Drunken Chicken | $85 | I used to eat drunken chicken a lot. It was always a standard at our family gatherings and dinners. This was very heavy on the wine. But overall it was pretty good. Good thing we had this, because I needed the break…from all the spice!

Beef and Ox Tripe in Chili Sauce |$80| Mala | This starter was pretty good. Light, spicy and tender but nothing too spectacular.

Beef Onion Soup |$60 | Mala | Dangerous. This looks innocent. But I kid you not, it was deadly. DEADLY. So hot, spicy, and burned my nose, throat…everything. In a bad but good way! Haha.

Honey Garlic Spareribs | $115 | So glad we didn’t order the spicy spareribs. These ribs were amazing!! Highly recommended. Sweet, deep fried with the perfect crunch and crisp on the outside while still being juicy, tender, and moist on the inside.

Braised Beef in Chili Oil Soup |$190 | MALA | This dish was ridiculously BIG. It was huge. But of course a lot of it is just presentation. The chili oil soup took up a lot of space. The beef itself wasn’t the majority of the dish. It was loaded with winter melon, squash, mushrooms, bean sprouts, basil, garlic, chili peppers, along with thick bean curd mung noodles. We hardly had much of it. It was just tooooo spicy and hot. It burns your mouth like crazy. Also, we had to wash it down in hot water because it was just too spicy for us! Hopefully for the spicy adventurous types, you might enjoy this! Oh, and I also got FREE ice cream!! <3 ;) Perfect ending to such a HOT meal.
