We went to Sahara for dinner---a booking for 4 was made.The waiting time was almost NIL and we were seated towards the end of the restaurant on the ground floor.The dishes we ordered are as follows-accompanied by a short commentary 1) The Mezze Platter The platter came with Hommos, Zaaluk, Feta Cheese, Cheese Cigars, a leafy salad , and Felafel First the bad news: the hommos was a bit tasteless, and the Felafel a bit hard. 1) The Mezze Platter
The platter came with Hommos, Zaaluk, Feta Cheese, Cheese Cigars, a leafy salad , and Felafel
First the bad news: the hommos was a bit tasteless, and the Felafel a bit hard. THe latter didn't have much of a taste to it.
In fact, Falafel at Ebeneezer's might even be better. On the bright side, the Zaaluk, the cheese cigars and the salad and feta
were quite good. Then, it's kind of difficult to go wrong with Feta.
2) The Shish Kebab
This was a mix of chicken and lamb. it was quite tasty , indeed!
3) Moroccan Pumpkin Soup
We ordered two bowls to be shared amongst the four of us. This was pretty good. The "texture" of the soup was pitched at the right
consistency and you could taste the pumpkin in it.
and...
4) A Seafood Tagine
This came with a Tagine cover set on top of a Chinese Casserole dish ( Why not make the whole thing Moroccan?)
It was basically tomato based. A few people in our group weren't keen on lamb (and perhaps we had already ordered meat). The
outcome was okay, though I cannot say that seafood tagine with clams and shrimp is very representative of Maghrebian/Moroccan
cuisine. I may be wrong.
5) The couscous was good ! It went really well with the TAGINE!
On a brighter note, Dodi-the owner- was ever so humorous and hospitable. He makes THE difference (along with his brother HERO)
at the SAHARA.
I would still go again--though I may be more selective in what I order.
