Although its name mentions Yuen Long, this noodle shop is in fact no longer operating there. It has got three outlets, with the main branch located in Wanchai Tak Yan Street. Looking from afar you might think it is closed, with the green shutters pulled across, but seeing through the glass door they are in business, with also customers queueing at the ‘side door’ waiting. After a short wait we can go in. The place has a traditional, no-frill décor but everything is clean and neat, with decent spa
The soup is very tasty, with a nice white peppery note that has the heat and fragrance, but not over-dominating. There are a wide variety of pig innards, including lungs, intestines, liver, stomach, heart, ear, tongue, and jowl. All cleaned thoroughly and without any weird notes, with the great texture and taste that even if you are not a fan of innards, I am sure you will also find it delicious. We also have the Aged Mandarin Peel Dace Ball with Seaweed ($52) to share. While the dace balls are smaller in size than most other eateries the addition of the mandarin peel gives a nice fragrance and up-level the quality. An alternative for those who prefer not to have innards.
Together with the Deep-fried Eel Skin ($33) and soft drinks ($10 each), the bill on the day is $201. The food is good, the place is decent, and the price is reasonable, all the components to provide us a happy and satisfying lunch. Definitely worth coming even if you need to queue up for a bit of time.
