First of all, love the mascot!!! The whole restaurant is decorated to give off a Japanese nautical/ tribal vibe, utilising a lot of wooden furnitures and ropes to resemble the insides of a boat. I felt really comfortable and relaxed in the environment as each table provided customers with their own private space. We were able to customise our ramen dish by selecting the flavour of the broth, texture of the noodles, whether or not we prefer having herbs added to the broth and a choice of sides (with some additional charges), which we indicated on an order sheet by placing ticks next to the desired options. So we ordered...
1) 黑蒜油湯拉麵 (豚肩叉燒/粗曲麵) - Thick Wavy Ramen in Infused Black Garlic oil base broth, served with slices of Roast Pork Shoulders and half a soft-boiled egg. -- The contrast between the bright yellow yolk and the black, textured surface of black garlic broth really made the dish pop. The smell of the black garlic draws you into the dish immediately. The broth is savoury with strong black garlic flavours, which has an underlying tone of sweetness that balances out the saltiness. The chewiness of the thick ramen noodles did not disappoint! I was addicted! The egg was perfectly cooked to give a slightly runny yolk, which I savoured by pairing it with the dark broth. That mouthful left me wanting more! The meat was slightly tougher, which gave another layer of texture to the dish. I really enjoyed the contrasting textures of the meat and noodles. 😘
2) 雪達摩櫻花蝦味噌湯拉麵 (豚肩叉燒/幼麵) - Thin Straight Ramen in Sakura shrimp base broth, also served with slices of Roast Pork Shoulders and half a soft-boiled egg. -- The flavourful aromas of the broth is very appetising. There was a generous portion of Sakura Sergestid shrimps (basically small dried up shrimps) which gave a slight crunch to contrast the wet dish.
3) 招財貓梳打(蜜糖味) - Lucky cat Soda (Honey flavour) -- It came in the cutest bottle ever which fitted in nicely with the theme of the restaurant. The taste reminded me of "pebble sodas" from Edo, with a heavier note.
4) Kirin Ichiban Draft Beer - A frothy head which was very refreshing, especially when paired with the rich broth of the ramen dishes. Very fragrant and very easy to drink. No wonder the waiter recommended it!
It was a very relaxing yet fun experience. Although there were many other dishes on the menu that looked incredible, our ramen dishes were more than enough to fill us up. The ramen was delicious and I would definitely recommend this place, whether or not you are a ramen "stan" or trying it out for the first time.
