We planned to have a farewell dinner last Saturday evening as our Swedish friend left back to Stockholm after traveling China for more than one month. My Japanese friend booked a table for 8 people on Thursday in order to make sure we could all enjoy our meal together and share the last moments. When we arrived at the restaurant (not only on time but 30 minutes earlier - Japanese style) we discovered that they didn't prepare anything for us and just wanted to place us on two separate tables (4 persons each). My HK friend got really upset and insisted on talking to the manager - who did nothing in the end. So what's the point in making a reservation? They even had enough free seats, a little bit more planning would have enabled us to sit together.
Anyway, after some useless discussion we just left the restaurant and went to Lei Garden next door. We got a nice big, round Chinese style table without any problem and had a nice evening in the end.
The lesson I learned on that day: Don't go to the IFC if you're looking for Tonkatsu...
