Knowing there's a quality French restaurant in a hidden commercial building, we purposely reserved to try their lunch menu during weekend. Lunch menu covers a salad, soup of the day, a main and a cup of coffee or tea. As we went in a huge group, I only pictured my dish and will only review my dish. First came the phoenix romaine salad with citron mustard dressing. Personally, prefer less sauce. Sauce was covering almost the whole salad, but it wasn't soggy. Sauce itself was fruity and in a thick side instead of like a vinaigrette. Prawn was cooked just right, not overdone or chewy. It was sprinkled with quinoa giving a crunch. Overall, not bad.
Variety of bread choice was given by staff. I picked the sun dried tomato herb bread. It was served warm and in small pieces. It will be appreciated if it's in a bigger pieces, anyway you can ask for a refill. Bread was alright, not as herby as I thought it would be. Airy and finished in two bites.
Today's soup of the day was cream of zucchini and spinach soup. Soup was hot, and I asked for some black pepper. It was creamy. Tasted fresh and creamy. Similar to the cream of mushroom but in a fresher way without the umami flavour. Quite special.
It took awhile for the main to be served. Friendly reminder to be patient, stay chill for the good food to come.
When the main was ready, you could smell your food when the waiter was approaching. Food was served hot. I requested charcoal grilled Canada pork racek with shallot red wine sauce. Pork chop was a thick cut with a fatty edge. Seeing the visible grill marks literally made you drool. Pork chop was cooked perfectly. Moist and juicy. You could tell its quality from just the cut. Pairing with the shallot red wine sauce, giving a tartness. Chef was thoughtful to create this dish. Few crunchy shallots and a stalk of broccolini have also been served. Couldn't taste the shallot much as it absorbed all the sauce. Broccolini was blanched. A half sliced dried tomatoes have also been served. It kinds of a highlight of the dish. Looks nothing special but incredibly juicy and sweet. Quite a surprise. It would be appreciated if more side vegetables to be served.
I also added an apple crumble as dessert. Waited pretty long for a small bowl. Pretty disappointed. Indeed serving hot, not much crumble (oat base). Not much cinnamon added. Cooked apple with raisins. It was topped with a scoop of vanilla ice cream. Again, neither taste the vanilla flavour nor visible vanilla bean. Will not be recommended.
All in all, not bad, but I prefer only go for their lunch menu.
