Executive Lunch $1,288 (Sharing for 4)
This lunch set includes 4 soup (1 per person), 4 main courses to share, 1 rice and 4 dessert (1 per person)
Mix seafood and egg soup (海鮮蛋花羹)
Viscous and silky. The egg white dropped beautifully into the soup and makes for smooth bites. I couldn’t detect which seafood was used as I was distracted by the sheer taste of the soup but there was a heavy taste of fish bones and reminds me of the big bowl ones you get at a traditional 酒樓. There is also a few pieces of fish maw in each bowl. This soup itself is an absolute recommendation.
Stir-fried Scallop with asparagus (XO醬帶子炒蘆筍)
Juicy and plump scallops stir-fried with an assortment of vegetables (green asparagus, carrots and shimeji mushrooms) in a savory sauce. There was around 7 scallops in the plate and all were relatively big and all tender and perfectly cooked. The asparagus was bite sized and all crunchy but cooked through. The portion was also enough for 4 people with extra to spare.
Kung Pao Style Cashew Chicken (宮保腰果雞丁)
Appearances is really deceiving as 3/4 of the plate was filled with dried chilli casing but the chicken had zero spiciness. Which is good if you don’t like spicy foods but I am fond of spicy foods. Even though it was not spicy at all, I really enjoyed it, the taste was savory and reminded me of Sichuan cooking even though it lacked the spice 🤣. The cashew nuts was also crunchy but creamy and stir-fried so the natural oil of the nut came out easily. The chicken pieces were all tender and some were bigger than others which I liked as that meant more meat 😋🥰. The ratio of cashew to chicken was 2:5, as there was only a tablespoon-full of cashews and a lot of chicken pieces.
Sautéed Chinese Kale in Clay Pot (啫啫芥蘭報)
Sizzling hot when arrived and the pot kept the vegetables hot throughout the meal. The kale is covered in a savory minced pork and garlic sauce. The kale served was mostly from the stem which is typically not liked but I myself enjoy the crunch they give 😛. The kale was crunchy and well shaved so you don’t have the 齋 that appears at the root. The garlic flavor seeps into the root of the stem and this makes the dish that more memorable.
Braised abalone chicken rice (鮑魚雞粒燴飯)
Tender chicken meat and a lot of them too, all bite sized but with still big enough to be tender and flavorful. I couldn’t really taste the strong intense flavor of abalone in the dish, there were a few pieces of abalone but not as distinct as the chicken. The rice was cooked perfectly and evenly and non stuck together which is always a bonus. Each grain was also seasoned to the T and lightly coated in the sauce and oil. The ratio of rice to toppings were 5:3 which is perfect in my opinion. The portion is enough for 4 bowls.
Honey glazed BBQ Kurobuta Char Siu (蜜汁黑豚肉叉燒)
This is on my top #3 best most delicious Char Sui in Hong Kong 😳🤯. The pork was so tender and soft albeit being a thick piece of meat. There was 9 pieces of this and all were extremely thick compared to my expectations. The honey sauce was not poured generously over the Char Sui but it definitely was not needed, even in the thickest part of the meat, you could taste the sweet honey flavor and the deliciously charred roast meat. The outside was caramelized beautifully with a dark, crispy char that made the meat so much sweeter and meatier. This is definitely worth $1,288 as a set lunch in my opinion, the Char Sui itself is $238 and it certainly rivals the Char Sui at HEXA 😅.
I also tried the end piece of Char Sui to see if it had flaws and the only bad thing was that it stuck to my teeth a bit but the meat was still tender and very flavorful, in addition to the more charred taste.
Aside from the lunch set, we also ordered 3 dim sum to try.
Rose Gold Har Gow (香檳金蝦餃) $68
The first choice on the menu and one of their signatures. The vision of the har gow itself is breathtaking and elevates a simple and rustic dim sum dish. The taste itself is identical to a good har gow but the dumpling wrapper is a bit thick, not that I mind as their was enough filling. The filling had big chunks of shrimp meat as well as minced shrimp so the texture is quite nice. This had 4 pieces. The size of each piece is slightly bigger than the ones at a dim sum place and worth 2 big bites.
Kurobuta Pork Sui Mai with Crab Roe (蟹子黑豚肉燒賣) $68
Another one of their signature dishes and the second thing on the menu. The appearance of this is nothing special, much like a regular Sui Mai with crab roe. The taste is also identical to a pork Sui Mai but with a richer pork taste and bigger chunks of minced pork as well. The size is also quite big, I got around 3 bites of this. There was 4 pieces of it.
Golden Fish Dumpling in Supreme Broth (上湯金魚餃) $68
This is not one of their signature dishes but we had to try it due to the aesthetic 😅. The taste is similar to a Har Gow but less shrimp flavor, their is also more wrapper than filling due to the extra details of the tail. This dim sum only comes with 3 dumplings. The taste is average but worth the photos 😂.
Dessert for the lunch set was a Coconut saga (椰子西米露)
The coconut saga was refreshing and delicious, perfect way to end a heavy lunch meal. The abundant of coconut spheres (椰絲) are chewy and tender, there was enough for a spoonful each bite. There was also bits of cantaloupe in this which offered a nice crunch and fruitiness but also a drastic texture change as the saga is a liquid and the cantaloupe is a crunchy solid.
Steamed Longevity Buns with lotus paste and egg yolk (蛋黃蓮蓉壽桃包) $98
Ordered this as extra dessert as we were celebrating my birthday 😆. There was 6 mini buns and they were all filled generously with lotus paste, the paste was smooth and creamy with a delicious sweet taste. There was also a tiny teaspoon of egg yolk in the middle of the lotus paste and this gave the bun a new and rich flavor. The size is enough for you to pull it apart and admire the filling and have 2 bites of each half.
The buns are also accompanied by 2 swans which is just a dollop of marshmallow for the body and the neck resembles the taste of 牛耳朵 (a traditional Chinese New Year snack) but the texture is very hard. The marshmallow is not sweet at all and coated in coconut flakes, it is also very bouncy yet melts in your mouth easily.
The restaurant itself is not considered big in size and the tables are rather close together so that you could hear what the table next to you is talking about loud and clear. We came at 12 pm sharp because the staff said we would get the best seats and not even 5 minutes later, the whole restaurant was filled with people. The funny thing is that if you close your eyes, it would be like you are at a regular 茶餐廳 or 酒樓 because of the volume and constant tea clashes. It was also very annoying whenever the waiter would come over and serve plates to the table next to us as they have to stand next to you and hold steaming hot plates above your head 😬.
It is also $25 per person for the tea/water charge which is insane in my opinion as the tea is just normal 鐵觀音. The tea pot is also not breathtaking enough to fit in the elegance of this restaurant. 4 people mean $100 already 🤯🙂.
Overall, I definitely recommend this lunch set if you are coming in a group of 4, it is not too filling that you can’t enjoy their dim sum (as it is not included in the set). The price is also acceptable as the quality and quantity of each course can rival any 4-star hotel chinese restaurant. However, the ambience of the restaurant is a price to pay as it gets very busy even on a weekday (we went on weekday) due to all the workers in IFC taking their lunch break, so definitely book beforehand and get their early to choose the window seats!
