I have been here for two or three times and I haven’t been let down. Their drinks are much Japanese inspired and is reasonably priced (given its size). Selection is extensive.

Food there always gives you a pleasant surprise and they always have something new. I had the Tuna dish (excuse my goldfish memory for not noting the name) as appetiser and it got our appetite going. The soft/hard tacos came well designed and balanced with pull pork and very tender chicken. The portion for taco is admittedly relatively small but it means more options! The prices are reasonable for main dish.

Seats at the bar provide hooks for bags which is good for ladies. There are around 10-15 seats at the table area for bigger parties. Bartender and servers at the restaurant are friendly.

Chic design overall - the restaurant is located at ground floor of a very cool refurbished Chinese style building. Be sure to check it out.

And the a market fish ceviche which to me seemed more sashimi than a ceviche. Pretty nice presentation too.

I saw on the menu an eggplant katsu, which is very interesting. Eggplants fried in the porkchop in a katsu don is quite creative. Tastes pretty good but yes a little oily.

Unfortunately the main was indeed a little anticlimactic, I thought it was the least interesting dish because it's a little tasteless. This was a little disappointing given this was like the dish I was most looking forward to.

All in all a nice place and I'd like to come again.

As we all know difficult to find Mexican food let alone good Mexican food in Hong Kong. I wouldn’t call this place a true Mexican restaurant but more of fusion style Mexican food. Overall the food is amazing and the price is a little high however the food was worth the price. The place is a bit tiny but overall good experience.

Pork neck tacos with pineapple
The pork neck one is a lot wetter with juices dripping all over from the fresh pineapple. The smokey taste from the marinated pork went well with the sour fruit and all those chopped onion. I personally prefer the fish one a bit more.

Churros
Lastly, we had some churros which is one of the best ones. We didn't have it with chocolate cream so it wasn't way too sweet with that cinnamon sugar rolled all over.

I previously visited Chino's when they first opened and was rather disappointed with the food.  One of my friends at dinner actually got food poisoning! Since then, approximately 1.5 years ago, we decided to re-visit the restaurant tonight and were hugely disappointed yet again. Firstly, the food was still  mediocre - everything tasted rather sweet, a little too sour, and felt rather heavy. I know this is Mexican food, but infused with Japanese flavours - I thought it would have been a little lighter and cleaner on the palate.  Nothing was really a stand-out, and it all tasted rather the same.

The atmosphere was sterile ... felt a little boring, and has not got really a vibe that excites a diner. Which would be OK if the food was outstanding.

The service was TERRIBLE. The waitress who served us asked us to move tables in between our meal! When we entered the restaurant another waiter asked us if we would like to sit at a table for two, or the kitchen counter. We said we would sit at the table, not realising we would later be asked to move as it was actually a table for three, and they had some people waiting outside (despite there being lots of seats available at the kitchen counter!!). I was so annoyed as we were in the midst of dinner, and being asked to move. There were other tables of three also being occupied by couples, so why were we asked to move and not anyone else!?!  She didn't even feel bad about it, nor did the other staff when we complained.

I understand that the restaurant has limited seating, and if we were originally told that we may need to move if a party of three arrived, then we would have either accepted or declined the table, but nobody gave us that indication at all, and we were surprised and shocked when asked to move. totally unprofessional.

The prices are steep for this type of food & location. Overpriced, sloppy food.

WILL NOT BE BACK.

We ordered a number of dishes from all sections of the menu, but I think the Shima Aji from the starters section and the Clams with Chorizo from the mains section were our two favourites. The flavours on pretty much every dish were perfectly balanced and gave us just the right levels of heat, sour and tanginess. For drinks I tried the mezcal which my server recommended, the Los Dozante Reposado, which was easily the best mezcal I have ever had.

I definitely wouldn't call this place cheap, but the quality of the food and service certainly felt like we were getting value for our money. Have been to too many restaurants in Central where you spend a lot of money but walk away feeling unsatisfied...definitely not at Chino!

Will be back again soon for sure!

Still there was quite a bit of waiting time between dishes so I can't imagine what would happen if the place was filled up. In terms of food, most of the dishes were badly seasoned - the sauces/condiments overpowered the delicate flavours of raw fish and sea urchin and some combinations e.g scallop sea urchin tostada just didn't work. The only dish that was not bad was the fish taco but ted's lookout still does a better fish taco than them. So overall nice hippy decor but the food was disappointing

We came here for a lazy weekend lunch. We had heard great things and were hungry, so were pleasantly surprised to find it nearly empty and we were seated immediately, in the middle of the restaurant. We asked to move beside the window but were told it was only for groups of 4. It seemed unnecessarily strict as the place was empty except for 3 other tables, one of which left a few minutes after we arrived. And as they don't take reservations, it seemed they should be willing to seat people on a first-come-first-served basis, particularly as there were plenty of options for any newcomers. Just a small detail but it's not good to give the message that potential customers trump actual customers.

The space looks great with lots of natural light, but the chairs were hard and the acoustics terrible. Sound bounced off all the hard surfaces and overall it was very noisy, creating a somewhat chaotic atmosphere. Not relaxing.

Service was fine and polite, with servers outnumbering customers. They were quick to refill glasses and to remove empty plates, but otherwise hung out a bit too idly, and did not venture to ask if we were enjoying our meals.

Food was nicely presented, fresh and clean tasting with good quality ingredients, but overall it was underwhelming.

The huevos rancheros arrived without cheese or sour cream - and the accompanying salsa, guacamole and black beans were bland and listlessly underdressed. The three palm-sized tortillas which came in a bamboo steamer were nice and soft, but likewise without much flavour.

The three types of tacos we tried were all better than the eggs but still nothing special enough to get us to return. In particular, the avocado/bean/cheese taco was a let-down. The avocado was battered and deep-fried which was unexpected. The added texture did little to make up for the missing seasoning. Even the spicy items had no zing, and there were no condiments on the table. We realised later that this was because salsa was charged as an extra side. We would have appreciated a bit of advice, i.e. to order the extra salsa to customise the spice levels.

On second thought: why wasn't the salsa offered for free? (Do burger joints charge for mayo, ketchup and vinegar? Or Italian restaurants charge for freshly grated parmesan, olive oil and basalmic vinegar?) At least offer a complimentary standard one, and then if there are special versions, then charge for those...

It was no treat. It was not horrible, but I would not recommend it. The drinks and food were overpriced for the small portions, and the lack of flavour drove us elsewhere afterward, to make up for the unsatisfying experience. We were still hungry but also not interested in spending any more money here.
Other Info. : The hype surrounding Chino is not warranted. Glad we tried it, but sad it did not live up to its reputation.

Corn:

Chicken & Egg Tostada

Tachos & Tostada:

great things
tostadas - you actually can't go wrong with any of them! they have so much flavor and texture. ****you have to eat these with your hands**** a mixture of all flavors and textures, this is really a hit! i'd say chicken egg/scallop uni/clams and shrimp are excellent, while pulled pork is something to try if you want more. lobster ran out the day we had it, but i'm sure it's delicious
soft tacos - less appealing to tostadas to me, but the fish tacos was very very good!
beet root salad - was also very refreshing to start. had a bit of cheese on it so more dynamics than normal beetroot.
corn - pretty good.

damage was about HKD 750 (w 20% tip) so decent for quality of food.

fun and full of flavor - we will be coming again!

CHINO has definitely been creating a lot of buzz. Its one of the buzziest new eateries to have opened up in Kennedy Town. There is a no reservation policy, so get there early- because it does fill up quick. The concept of CHINO is clean, fun and chill. I started off with a fruity cocktail recommended by the bartenders. There's bar seats for dining as well as drinking.

We started off with the market fish ceviche $168. It was marinated in a refreshing lime, yuzu sauce that made this oh so goooood. Only problem was the price for what you get.

Scallop and uni tostada ($88). Sweet uni and fresh raw scallop sit beautifully on top of a crunchy toasted tortilla chip. Its beautiful. We ended up ordering another batch.

Crispy Fish, Chipotle Kewpie, Salsa Fresca Tacos HK$48 which actually is US$6.20!!! OMG.....I didn't realize the price difference until a friend told me, I eat a lot out and if I think how much it was until I converted it. MY GOSH. This was pretty good though. The fish itself could have used some more seasoning, but I loved the crispy outer shell!

Clams, Aji Amarillo, Crispy Shallots HK$148. I'm a big fan of clams and these were delicious. The clams were plump and fresh. The clam broth was sharp, savoury and slurp-worthy! I was practically gulping down the entire bowl.
