We came here for happy hour expecting to have cheaper food, like the cheap Asians we are, but unfortunately it was not the case. I believe only the drinks are cheaper at this time and only some of them not all. We came before it opened apparently, although their times state otherwise. What really bothered me as that they knew that we were waiting and yet when it was officially opened they didn’t even us any attention. We finally ASKED to be seated which is a definite bummer. For an ENTIRE HOUR, there was no one in the restaurant but us and yet service was not attentive which was good because I liked that but also bad because it was hard to get their attention when we needed them.

We started off with the oysters which were delicious and I believe half price. They were juicy but not too big to swallow. Nicely shucked.

Then arrived the Scotch Egg which was a delight to look at. The meat on the outside was a bit too salty for me which was unfortunate. The egg was beautifully done though and the vegetables on the side were the highlight. The veggies were a good balance of sour and salty.

Then the finally – the gua bao (braised pork belly, soft boiled egg and house srirachi) It was delicious but it got soggy pretty quickly from the sauce. The house srirachi was a very nice touch – it added a great kick to it. The pork belly was melt in your mouth tender but the soft boiled egg added a bit too much richness to it. The problem with this dish was that it lacked freshness (yes you could add the veggies on the side) but I meant the pickled freshness and a bit more crunch (like from peanuts or something).

The part that upset me the most was how much they charged us for water. They asked me if I wanted sparkling or still and I should have known that they weren’t going to serve us tap water. I guess its partly my fault but I’m just disappointed a restaurant would not be clearer about such things. They could have said sparkling, still or tap.

Overall – an experience with many ups and downs. Will I be back – definitely not. Would I recommend it? (hoping that you get a better experience) – no.

餐牌選擇不算多,主要分四類Raw Bar (海鮮冷盤)、 Skinny(前菜),Fatty(主菜)和 Sides(配菜)。

餐牌選擇不算多,主要分四類Raw Bar (海鮮冷盤)、 Skinny(前菜),Fatty(主菜)和 Sides(配菜)。
Pork Buns ($60/pc) -

Other Info.

Crispy Pork with Watermelon Pickle $150

The entrance is at the bar area while the main dining room is located in the next room - I got confused at first when I first arrived at the restaurant because I didn't realize that this bar was part of Fatty Crab as well. Turns out that the drinks here are something to rave about since the cocktail menu was designed by an award winning mixologist in NYC. Along with the food, the drinks here also reflect that SE Asian influence by incorporating ingredients like spices and homemade infusions.

The Vangster ($120) - with tom yom infused vodka, aperol, agave and fresh lime. Yes you read that right - it's a drink that tastes like tom yum soup with a hint of spiciness, sourness and sweetness that actually works as a cocktail. A one-of-a-kind drink that is definitely worth a try here!

Anime Star ($120) - with shochu, sparkling wine, passion fruit, cinnamon vanilla sugar and fresh lime. To be honest, I was more intrigued by the comic more than the drink actually (that naughty crab!) but the cocktail was right up my alley as it was fruity and well-balanced in flavors. I love passion fruit as well!

One thing that differentiates from the NYC branch is the introduction of the raw bar here in HK with daily selections of oysters, razor clams, shrimps, crabs and more!

Daily Selection of Oysters - HK peeps love their oysters so we had to try them which were supposedly from [somewhere in] Canada. I love these kinds of small oysters which tends to be less creamy with a more briny flavor and they reminded me of the Kumamoto oysters from Washington. More interesting was that the oysters were served with green chili sauce as opposed to the usual condiments so you can add a bit of spiciness to your oyster if you'd like.

Laab Moo Scotch Egg ($100) - with soft boiled egg and spicy minced pork wrap. An interesting twist to Scotch eggs by replacing sausage meat with Laab Moo which is a classic Isaan pork dish from Northern Thailand. The spicy pork lent a spicy kick in flavors which was oh-so delicious to eat!

Chili Crab - we ended the night with crab of course since this place wouldn't be called Fatty Crab without a crab dish! A signature dish here with a sweet and juicy pacific northwest Dungeness crab soaking in a spicy tomato sauce along with pieces of fluffy pullman toasts. This is a must-have dish especially if you like Dungeness crab like I do but that spicy tomato sauce stole the show for me. It was so good to eat with the toasts that we had to ask for more toasts so we can eat every last drop of it!

The waiters were very friendly and introduced the menu to us. We had 3 people and he suggested we ordered 3 dishes from the "Skinny" section (i.e. Entrees) and 2 dishes from the "Fatty" section (i.e. Mains). His suggestion was just right for our portion! Here are our picks:

Skinny:
Green Papaya Salad - This tasted just normal, no surprise, no complaint.
Scotched Egg in minced pork - This was great! The soft boiled egg was wrapped in pork meat and then deep fried. The coating was spicy and very very crispy!
Crab Cake - This is a great surprise! It's made of fresh crab meat with spicy sauce, crispy on the outside and soft inside, must try!!

Fatty:
Chilli Crab ($525) - The crab was reasonably big and meaty. The sauce is Malaysian style, the red spicy sauce is just right. Comes with toasts.
Grilled Sea Bass - This is another good surprise! The fish was grilled on banana leaf, the meat was tender and the BBQ was perfect. It comes with spicy soy sauce and Malaysian spicy red sauce.

The restaurant was a bit dark, ambience was comfortable with good vibe, great place for hanging out with friends. The menu was not very big, there were oysters and fried vegetables as well. Their cocktails were creative, I saw "Tom yum" and "Snapped peas" on the list!

I really enjoy the garlic and chili seasoning of the Alaskan crab i ordered.

We were going to use our hand to eat it, me and my SO was amazed because of the sauce taste, it was delicious, the crab meat was thick and sweet. The shrimp also taste great, fresh, and sweet.

The price is on the high side, so it's not a place to visit daily. But that's a good thing for our cholesterol level.

Overal the food worth every expensive penny, so good that you would lick the last drop of the sauce.

We have been a few times - our go-to spot when feeling like South East Asian spices, rich food, and good cocktails.

The pork belly and watermelon is usually excellent though sometimes the pork is a bit overcooked.  Beef rendang also great, beautifully smoky.  Salads can be pretty spicy so be careful when choosing spice level.

We've only had dessert once.  Rather spend the calories on starters and mains.

And if you like smoky, ask the bartender to make a sour and smoky cocktail.  Complex but refreshing, a bit like a cross between a peaty whisky and a mojito (tastes better than it sounds).

Only complaint is the music which can sometimes be too loud, especially as it is usually hip-hop.  But the tables are small so you can just about hear each other.

Overall a great spot and one of our regulars.

Two of us were there on Wed 8pm. We were surprised to find a seat easily when the rest of SOHO was full of diners.

We spent a total of 905 HKD. Not value for money and let me tell you why:

Two beers. fair

Starter: Green mango and papaya salad. OK

Main: Crispy pork and picked watermelon. Best dish of the night. Well seasoned and refreshing. Good balance

Main: Chilli Crab which comes with 3 pieces of toast. "Market price", it was 500 HKD on wed. MAJOR DISAPPOINTMENT. If you were expecting a Singapore style dish, forget it. The Chilli sauce tastes like a supermkt Domino pasta tomato based sauce with a bit of chilli in it. It's no way as good as the Singaporean style sauce.
Secondly the 500 HKD crab is a mutant crab where it has long legs and TINY claw (even thinner than a mutant leg). There was hardly any meat in the claw, the legs and the shell. You spent 15min sucking pasta sauce from a bunch of oily shells.

In my humble opinion, the crab probably didnt cost more than 60-70HKD in the wet market.

Please avoid this dish. Major let down, whilst other dishes actually tastes quite nice. Service was great from several staff.

A message to the mgmt is- if this is your signature dish, you need to change the crab you use. Make it a better dish. Dont try to rip us off.

At the start, the Front of house had a stuck up attitude, really rude and unhelpful.  I know there are no reservations but making a table of 6 wait for over an hour at 6pm on a Friday is really frustrating.

We sat at the bar and I ordered a mohito.  Drink was very watery and not even a lot of mint leaves.

Next thing is the ambiance in the restaurant was awful because of the pounding music, more suitable for a club, which was at such a high volume we had to shout to speak to each other.  Which meant the noise level was even higher.  Not conducive to a nice calm after-work dinner.

Food was so-so, the attempt at fusion made little impression.  Felt like they had just dumbed down some of the dishes to make it taste "home-style".  Also not impressed by the chipped plates it came on.

We started off with the papaya and mango salad, the main flavour was lime and chilli, no depth to the spices.  We thought about ordering sliders but one (ONE!!!) slider was $120!  No way.  We couldn't even order the famous Chilli Crab because their supplier had not delivered any that day.

Fatty duck was good, crispy and moist but not stand-out flavour.  The crispy pork and watermelon pickle was great, fat melting in our mouths, but again you could make this at home by deep-frying belly pork as again there was very little seasoning.  The sea bass Penang had a lot of lemongrass and spices and this was worth getting, the fish was fresh and lightly cooked.  We all enjoyed that one!

All of the dishes came trickling out of the kitchen, one by one, with about 10 mins between each dish.  Well, not like there was enough space on the table anyway.  But in particular, our kangkong belacan arrived a good 15mins after the final meat dish arrived... so we sat eating vegetables for the last course.

Even sharing 6 dishes (no rice) we were not full at the end.  Avoid this restaurant, it's not worth your time and money.

I normally shy away from anything "fusion" due to bad experiences in the past (but if you must know, it's usually a luke-warm portrayal of neither of the cuisines it's trying to represent being passed off as "fusion" without much concern on how the actual flavours will mix), but I'll make an exception for this. Stumbled upon this jewel on my way to the Flying Pan on a Sunday morning-ish to find the place packed, backtracked just a couple steps up hill and you will find this place. Brunch items o

Brunch items ordered:
- latte + McGriddle
- SO had a craft beer + chicken and waffles
- rendang hash to share

Chicken and waffles you say?! Yes you found the right place. I urge you to read on.

McGriddle was was a hotcake sandwich with "built-in" maple syrup between which are coriander bacon, gooey eggs over easy and cheese. First bite and I knew we were on to a good start. I hate to sound douchy but it's very well balanced, I can taste everything yet none of the flavours were overpowered by the others at the same time. The hot cakes and built-in maple syrup tasted like what it should (the syrup being buried as little candies in the hot cakes prevent the thing from turning into a soggy mess), the bacon wasn't overly salty but gives you that nice smokey flavour, egg was gooey enough to act as a kinda sauce to bind everything together and the cheese was of the processed variety (which I normally shun) but worked surprisingly well in this case because of the stronger "cheddar" flavour which helped round out the sweet and saltiness.

Phew, if you're still reading, now comes the chicken and waffles. THEY ARE SO GOOOD!!
Now true southerners would not be impressed to find that this is not the standard C&W affair. The fried chicken is doused in a slightly tart sweet chili sauce (kinda like the ones you dip shrimp cakes in at Thai restaurants), fried perfectly, not too oily and none of that dreaded "cut-you-upper-palate" crispy either. Waffle was light and fluffy. I am thinking about eating it for lunch the next day as I type (sorry folks, by this time we were already too entrenched with eating to take proper photographs)

Rendang hash is a Malaysian rehash of the potato hash. Spicy sriracha, fried onions and garlic slices tossed together with crispy cubes of potatoes with garlicky mayo (queue heaven music). It a sexed up version of the spicy fried tofu cubes you get at Chinese restaurants. (Funny side story: our hungry eyes saw the waitress carry the potatoes to another table which were met with "I didn't order this" stares, waitress proceeds to return said dish to kitchen upon which we eagerly exclaimed:
"we ordered this! It's ours?!"

Waitress smiles and responds "hold on, I need to take this back and yell at the people in the kitchen (which was right behind us in full view through a glass window, and obviously she was joking about the "yelling"), upon which she immediately returns to give us our plate. Potatoes and joke devoured.

Only thing I have to criticize is the latte here, but given it's not a cafe, I'll let them pass on this. But if they did a kickass coffee too I'd be head-over-heels impressed. Latte by the way, is also served in the typical Fatty Crab fashion aka in tacky chinoiserie earthenware.

Anyways, all in all a good experience.

TL;DR - good food, come often

Came here for Brunch with my Fiance as we literally stumbled across it and remember hearing some good things about it from some foodie friends who we later called to say a big thank you to.

Right from the start the service was amazing, we were too early for brunch (arrived at 11, brunch starts at 1130) but the bartender welcomed us in and we had some latte's at the bar. My fiance ordered a soy latte, without thinking twice the bartender said "no problem". Later, Tim, the general manager came out to us and said our latte's might take some time as someone had just popped out to get soy milk as they do not normally get a lot of requests for it, but they would be back ASAP. Talk about service!!! We were amazed, and so grateful.

We had a wonderful chat with the bartender (forgot his name!!) But he made the half an hour pass seemlessly talking about travel and had some awesome stories. When we were seated we told our waiter we wanted some special drinks to celebrate, he went and got us the dinner cocktail menu, ran through some of his favourites, and even though we just ordered a bottle on the original brunch menu, we were never made to feel like we were being difficult.  He was really exceptional, in fact every single one of the staff there was fantastic, courteous, and made it a place we really want to come back to. We have already referred three mates.

So all in all, this incredible service continued throughout the afternoon without let up, from reccomending dishes, to just shooting the breeze. It was a wonderful, wonderful experience (btw, the decor was awesome too...very funky!!)

Now, the food. The brunch food itself was good. The grilled chicken on waffles was sweet, salty and light, and the Breakfast Griddle with a coriander bacon was also good, however I feel simply ordering the slab of coriander bacon might have been a good choice too. The rendang hash was too interesting a concept not to try, but all in all was a let down, but that might because I cook a lot of Malaysian food at home and with my father having grown up there, I was maybe expecting a little too much.

However, even after three plates, my fiance and I still wanted more...so we went off the brunch menu and opted for the pork buns from the dinner menu. We wish we had done it sooner. It was such an awesomely strange dish you have to assemble yourself, I will do my best to describe it: imagine a very light pau-bun rolled flat to the thickness of a naan, put inside it a chunk of succulent pork belly, some salad dressed in sesame seed oil, a slice of hard-boiled egg and then dip it in kecap manis (thick sweet soy sauce). Heaven.

Overall, a fantastic experience but the dinner menu looks far more complex and interesting than the brunch menu, we'll defintately be back to try more of the dinner dishes. However, there's no reason one can't enjoy these complex dishes during a wonderful brunch as the accomodating staff (and kitchen) allow you to order from both menus. This is our pick for a great alternative brunch spot, and will be back soon. It is not long before this resturant develops a stronger cult following.

Other Info. : NOT vietnamese really, more Malaysian than anything and started as a Malaysian restaurant in NYC

We ordered:
Daily oysters (3 of each of the daily selection):  oysters arrived with 3 kinds of dipping sauce.  Hardly used them because we didn't want to cover up the fresh taste of the oysters themselves.  Liked the French oysters better.

Skinnys:  Fatty sliders, pork ribs, and chicken wings.  These were fantastic!  Sliders were juicy and the pork ribs were yummy.  The chicken wings were moist and sauce was finger licking good.

Fattys:  We didn't order the chili crab, had heard from many friends that it was small and not like chili crab from Singapore or Malaysia.  I mean we live in Asia, right?  For $500 we can definitely get a very big crab someplace else done better.  So, instead we ordered the Fatty Duck, Watermelon pickle with crispy pork, and green curry market veg.  The Fatty duck was fantastic, so flavorful and meaty.  i loved the watermelon pickle, I wished they were a little more generous with it!  It went surprisingly well with the pork belly.  The green curry vegetable was nothing special.

On top of this, we ordered wok fried kang kong (a water spinach) which was extremely spicy.

all in all, the service was attentive and the food was delicious, although very pricey for the size of the dishes.  Don't expect to be able to stay at your table all night, either.  We were politely given our bill when we didn't ask for it so that the next party could be seated at 9.

Beatles "Love Love, Love Is All We Need......."

Durox Smoked Pork Ribs

Fatty Crab

Other Info. :
