Do not let the simple cafe style decor fool you - most dishes  on offer at this bistrot restaurant  are more elevated than most top restaurants in HK! We particularly loved the sea bream carpaccio and the razor clams (both star quality). Beautiful main course of duck breast with puree of carrot with  utterly delicious jus. Both the honey madeleines and the chocolate choux for our dessert were excellent. I can't wait to go again and wished I lived in Wanchai  so that this could be my neighbourhoo

啱啱去咗一間灣仔法國菜,食材新鮮,服務態度友善,最重要係食物質素,雖然係平民格局,但如果識食法國菜嘅朋友,就食得出連汁都係唔簡單。叫左主菜三文魚,魚嘅熟到啱啱好,因為食過好多間都overcooked,呢一個外皮趣內裏少少生,旁邊伴菜嘅小蕃茄都係特別腌製,可以見到大廚嘅用心。

主要材料都係雞肝 仲夾雜了豬肉/bacon等等肉類
食落十分香濃 有不同肉類的口感 幾有層次
特別喜歡pineapple chutney! 同country terrine超搭的😱 菠蘿經特別處理 味道酸酸甜甜
法國菜的每道配搭真的很別出心裁 繼雞肝的cherry 而家又有terrine的pineapple🤤

雞肝好滑,與少甜的櫻桃一起吃可帶出雞肝的味道。我們還多叫了法包來吃這個。吃多了 ...

鴨胸是我常吃的菜。心想,鴨胸就是鴨胸嘛,應該沒什麼驚喜吧。

菜一來到便覺得有點不同。鴨皮看起來很脆,還有一點糖衣的感覺。肉是較生的 (我不喜歡太熟的鴨肉) 所以吃食有種外脆內軟的口感 ... 

但原來那個汁也很特別,味道很多層次。我們猜裡面可能加了八角 (店員說有很多不同的材料,但我忘了她有沒有說有八角)。友人喜歡旁邊的蘿蔔 - 軟軟的,很甜。

raspberry & almond tart, crème frâiche
最後試了上次外賣時買不到的甜品。還以為會很甜。誰知原來是較多 raspberry 的酸味,加上淡淡的杏仁味,配合得很好。

撻皮也有濃濃的牛油味,正是我喜歡那種。下次一定會再吃這個。

honey madeleines
這個是友人叫的。最驚喜就是廚師自己拿過來 🏻‍ ... 她說是新鮮焗起的 ... 🥚

我今天沒有吃這個,但聞到友人吃時飄過來的牛油味。

今天真的吃得很開心。這裡的員工也很友善,感覺很好。好期待下次再去試試其他菜色。

We booked our table at 4pm, which was the only time slot left for the day. We tried three appetizers because they all looked so delicious especially the chicken liver parfait, which was very smooth and tasty. The steak tartare is my all time favorite and it was so fresh with the right amount of acidity. Then we did the razor clam, which was pretty rare at French restaurant and the sauce was delicious.

For main dish, we did the waygu banquette. The waygu was so well cooked it melted right in your mouth. I would wish the banquette to be a bit warm but overall it was very good.

We ended the day with the dessert and coffee. I would wish they have more choices for dessert but the berry tart we tried was not too sweet so that’s good. Coffee was unexpectedly rich, it was a small cup but it went perfectly with the dessert.

Overall, it was an amazing experience and we already made our next booking.

嘩真係超級喜歡這間店!好掂呀!之前喺報紙見過佢哋宣傳,得知老闆廚師年青有Heart也曾在法國藍帶學習廚藝以及多年在外地知名餐廳實習。所以就算疫情期間都要走過來品嚐品嚐!餐廳開在灣仔鬧市中的小街內,設計簡潔舒適,坐在其中,可以舒適地享用食物。員工好有熱誠,不厭其詳地用心介紹當天的㕑師精選。真係認為《今時今日咁嘅服務態度... 係必須的》最鍾意見到班咁有heart嘅人!食物夠新鮮,特別處理海鮮方面,味道與色彩配搭令人感到食指大動。甜點鮮果和甜味恰到好處,滿意,會再到嘗試其他食物。

4 of us tried all dishes on the menu. All of the dishes we can’t simply use delicious to describe. Besides delicious, they are special (unlike other French restaurants) and refreshing. You can taste every element of the dish is just perfect and so fresh. We even finished all the side dishes. The location, atmosphere, environment and service are also great! Definitely a must-go place for food lovers! I can’t say my favorite dish as really a lot of them are just so good!!

I had the pleasure of visiting Jean May during their soft opening. Jean May is tucked behind a few flower stalls on Gresson Street in Wanchai. The restaurants decor and surrounding area reminds me of the cute bistros you would see in Europe.

The menu is on the black chalk board and the staff are eager to explain the dishes to you and share their recommendations.

As my friend and I were feeling particularly hungry, we ordered most of the dishes on the menu. For starters, I would strongly recommend the chicken liver parfait, razor clams, and the steak tartare. All perfectly executed dishes. The oyster with the cucumber and dill sauce is also super refreshing. For main, I really enjoyed the salmon. Make sure to leave room for the lemon tart which is perfectly done - not too sweet and just the way I like it.

Tiffany, the head chef, trained under Pierre Koffmann, the legendary three star Michelin chef. You can tell Tiffany has put a lot of thought into sourcing the ingredients and preparing the dishes. She even bakes her own bread!


Service is also spectacular and friendly. HK really lacks places like Jean May. It’s one of those “neighborhood gems” you want to visit frequently.
