很久沒有來南記了,今天偶然經過,就想來吃一碗小窩米線了!星期六的中環,雖是午飯時間,但比起平日的中環,不可同日而語。平日午飯的中環,人如蝗蟲般出沒,沒有多少間食肆是做拍蒼蠅生意的。不太喜歡地鋪店,雖然仍有庭位,但仍上了一樓的會所鋪,沒有會員卡,就只好即場登記扮會員,或許時間尚早,才12:00pm,客人只有兩、三枱。牛展小窩米線是我的至愛,賣$27,價錢雖好像沒有漲,但牛展就看來是少了的,整碗米線就只有4塊牛展,再配上一杯細豆漿,賣$3。牛展小窩米線依樣好吃,牛展味濃又香又軟,配料如銀芽、腐竹……等下得十足,湯底也不錯,吃飽再上路。

今日lunch諗唔到食咩,就黎咗南記買豬腩肉小窩米線 + 春卷,呢度既豬腩肉真係好味道,香得黎帶點微辣,而且又大塊,唔係碎濕濕,更加唔會有一大舊肥糕 ; 春卷就不過不失,唔係特別好食,只係想多款餸 ; 小窩米線就有好多配料,有酸菜、牙菜、苟菜..... ; 味道方面其實都ok,不過本人喜歡味濃,所以自己再另加一包辣醬 + 2包醋,咁就very good la!! 不過食完都有點口渴,可能味精關係?!

早前時間,聽同事說這兒有一家很抵吃又出名的粉麵。招牌粉麵可選米粉或米線。只售$13。旁邊冬菜、辣醬任囉。取了兩包冬菜。用料豐富,兩條魚卷,兩粒魚蛋,兩粒牛丸。米粉也頗多,滿滿的一碗外賣碗。魚蛋彈牙,魚卷都好香,但牛丸彈牙得來似乎有點怪味(雪味?),感覺怪怪的。

Unsure of what to have for lunch, we strolled up Stanley St seeing what could pique our interest. We walked past Nam Kee surprised to see no long line out the door which is what usually happens around lunch time and decided maybe it was time to try this much reviewed noodle place.
We walked in and looked around for a seat, disappointed to find it all occupied already and it barely being lunch time. We were about to leave when one of the serving ladies told us to go upstairs for more seating. Turned out that they have a second level which is accessed via the stairs/elevator next door.
The seating area is much bigger than downstairs and to be honest much cleaner as well which is definitely a plus. After looking at the menu I decided to have the meat and vegetable wontons in the sour and spicy broth while my other classmates had the beef with noodles (no spice) and pig intestines with sour and spicy broth. We placed our orders with the lady at the cashier and waited at our table for our food to be called via the loudspeaker.
Food was ready in 5 minutes which was super quick. Looking into my bowl I saw 6 decently sized wontons, preserved vegetables and a whole heap of noodles at the bottom of the bowl immersed in a spicy yet fragrant broth. The noodles were really good, slippery smooth with a good bite to it while the broth was pleasantly sour with a spicy kick. The wontons were a bit lackluster though, overcooked with the filling being too mushy. Despite the wontons, I thoroughly enjoyed the noodles, but was incredibly thirsty afterwards which I'm sure was the side effect of MSG in the broth.

H knew exactly what he wanted, noodles with vegetable wontons and preserved vegetables. The wontons were deliciously slippery and tasty! The soup was a little sour and tangy. The noodles were thin which was also slippery and scrumptious! Hubby seemed to have enjoyed this and demolished it!

I had the ‘jumbo’ which consisted of fish balls, octopus balls, spring rolls, mini wontons, fish fingers and tofu. The rice noodles were soft, tender and cooked to perfection. The soup, laden with MSG was deliciously flavourful and I was incredibly thirsty afterwards. ‘Jumbo’ was indeed BIG, I couldn’t finish this as it was just way WAY too much and filling!

I think their specialty is the pork brisket noodles with spring rolls, which I will try next time.

If you haven’t been, I would definitely recommend this place. Its quick, dirt cheap and absolutely tasty! Great for pre AND post drinks!

I hate thick rice noodles (mai sin = 米線), except the ones from Nam Kee. That's how good they are. Most mai sin noodles are too soft, mushy, breaks easily, and not elastic. I've been singing praises for the noodles, but everything else on the bowl makes the perfect dish. The soup base? Deliciously spicy with a bit of a tang, I normally slurped my bowl dry. The meat? Tasty, tender and juicy. The Chinese preserved vegetables and minced pork added extra flavors, the beansprouts are great for the extra crunch and texture, the beancurd sheets fooled me into thinking I am eating healthy food (haha!), and the spring rolls...they aren't ordinary spring rolls. They are gloriously chewy, echoing the elasticity of the noodles. Plus, they're totally affordable! HK$25 for a giant bowl, add HK$6 for the spring rolls.

Seriously folks, I freakin' adore this place, so listen to me and do yourself a service by making a beeline to this total dive and ghetto of a noodle shop and have yourself a delicious bowl of spicy and sour noodle in soup (ask for mild spicy). Lunch time in Central is often a traumatic experience, eating in Central is expensive unless you're an expat and can afford to spend $100+ for a meal. Lunch time in Central is often a traumatic experience, eating in Central is expensive unless you're an expat and can afford to spend $100+ for a meal. I'm not - so I can't, in fact, I'm so grossly underpaid that it's disgusting. Nevermind, my favourite to get here is either number 3 (pork slices) or number 9 (spring rolls filled with fish paste), 3 out of the 5 day work week, you will most likely find me here slurping away happily as others dodge about with their trays, being careful not to spill that gorgeously hot soup atop others' heads given how quickly this place fills up with the local crowd. Seriously, there is something very addictive about that soup, but be forewarned, you will get thirsty - tremendously so - afterwards. And that's what the water cooler in your office's pantry is for, so go pour yourself some. Interestingly enough, you can become a "member" if you sign up for their membership card upstairs somewhere and save 2 bucks for each subsequent bowl thereafter. I am always impressed by the cashier lady taking the order as she's laser sharp, quick and very smart, never missing a tap on her on-screen monitor as per your customizations to your bowl. Cheap and filling, you won't find a better deal elsewhere in Central, the poshest section of town in Hong Kong. 2 perfectly manicured thumbs way up.
