海南雞飯賣相十分好,味道亦很好,食完好滿足。生牛肉湯粉湯底好好味,炒菜亦好好食。肉碎飯都做得好好。碳燒豬扒飯做得有心機,但肉做得略甜,有舊三色蛋,精致。全店最唔好,係服務態度,叫落單,十世都唔應你,或應完你又好耐先招呼你,幫襯過幾次,都有兩次落漏單同錯單情況。又登龍街搬咗過係,係坐得舒服咗,啲食物賣相高級咗,但服務搞唔掂。

仲要落左勁多冰,所以係愈飲愈淡
早知飲杯凍檸茶仲好

食物唔算好有驚喜
不過勝在價錢合理同坐得舒服
服務並都唔錯

A few days after having pho with godbro XO at another restaurant in Causeway Bay, I was back in the area doing some more Chinese New Year shopping at a Chinese confectionery shop.  After I was done shopping at the confectionery shop on Pak Sha Road, I was a bit hungry and remembered that there's a pho restaurant on Lan Fong Road that I saw while getting off of the minibus earlier, so I decided to give it a shot.

The restaurant was quite crowded when I arrived a little before 5 in the afternoon, so I didn't take pictures of the decor.  The restaurant had some gimmicky posters on the walls, and the seats were spaced pretty close to each other.  Since it was quite crowded, I had to share a table.  They had some condiments available on the table; one of which was a bottle of Sriracha sauce and the other sauce was also in a Sriracha bottle, but it was a much deeper brownish red color, so I think they should have labelled this bottle since it doesn't look like it's Sriracha.
Looking through the menu, I saw that they are serving afternoon tea, and I could get a pho and a cold beverage by adding $3.  So, I decided to order the Steak Pho with a Cold Lemon Tea.

When I ordered the Steak Pho, the waitress said that they only had 金邊粉 (Thai rice noodles) and asked if I was ok with it, and I said yes. I was thinking that they only had the wider rice noodles, but when my Steak Pho arrived, I could see that it's the thin rice noodles that I'm used to. Maybe I'm confused as to which rice noodle belongs in an authentic pho.

The first thing I did when I got the Steak Pho was to try a spoonful of broth, and right there, I was disappointed.  The broth was the blandest I've had in recent years; there was a lack of salt, and the beef flavor was really faint.  The beef slices were not really tender, but I'll give it a pass since they didn't overcook it.  The only good part of the pho was the noodles, which was the texture that I liked.

Overall, the experience at Pho Vietnamese Restaurant was mediocre.  Both the food and the waiters felt very mechanical.  The food felt like it was cooked mechanically where the chef's heart wasn't in it, and the waiters looked like they were just going through the daily grind.  With other better pho choices available in town, I doubt I will return to Pho Vietnamese Restaurant.

原來這間「越色」是從登龍街搬過來的, 有少許印象舊店那陳舊的裝修, 現在形象180度改頭換面, 但是單據上的地址仍未更新。除了地址要更新外, 食物質素及員工態度都要更新, 否則恐怕再在蘭芳路上消失。

Was a regular visitor here when they were on Tung Lung street. Was missing this place, but when i knew they opened up again elsewhere in cwb, I had to come check it out. Decor looks nice and a refreshing upgrade from their old place. When I arrived, didn't even look at the menu, knew what I wanted. Decor looks nice and a refreshing upgrade from their old place. When I arrived, didn't even look at the menu, knew what I wanted. A classic bowl of noodles with steak, beef tendon, tripe, and beef balls. But what really makes a good bowl of pho is the soup, I believe. Anyways when my bowl came my mouth was already salivating as I threw in the hot peppers and bean sprouts. Long story short, my stomach was doing cartwheels as I ate each bite. Still good as before.

Prices and portion size are reasonable. Of all the places I tried in HK, this is probably my go-to place for pho!!

Pho Vietnamese isn't a new restaurant. It's original location was on Tang Lung Street in the Causeway Bay area. It served Vietnamese at a very reasonable price. As I live near the Causeway Bay area, I usually eat here when I really don't want to try anything new.But then one day it closed and reopened again in another area of Causeway Bay. This time, near Lee Garden. Reopened it and completely renovated.Gone was the old tables and chairs that made you feel more like you were in a cha chan teng.

Gone was the old tables and chairs that made you feel more like you were in a cha chan teng. In it's place? Nice wooden tables and chairs to make it look more bright and cafe-like. There is now a cinema theme where they have phoney Vietnamese movie posters on the wall, all mentioning the word "pho" in it. Even the front has a "cinema-like" feel. The staff uniforms have changed. They now wear jean shirts and jeans. Making it all very cafe and chic.

The menu used to be a laminated plastic menu. Now it's on brown craft paper. Everything has become modernized. But prices, I noted, have not increased! Menu is in English and Chinese.

Vietnamese Sausage Vermicelli ($40). This was pretty good. The fish sauce was tangy and not too salty. The vermicelli didn't clump together and didn't fall apart on me when I mixed it up with the fish sauce. Changes I noted from the past: the Vietnamese sausage is now grilled. Before the renovation and the move, the Vietnamese sausage was just sliced and placed on top. Now it's grilled which is a nice touch. Ingredients were fresh.

I like the new renovations in this restaurant that I frequent often as the changes are positive. It makes the whole place look much more appealing and comfortable. It's also nice that prices didn't increase despite the new look. Will be always be back.
