今日咁啱路過PMQ,見到呢一間餐廳諗起之前見到裏面好多人都想試ga la, 心諗難得今日嚟到就試一試佢嘅包睇下又幾好食。呢間餐廳主要係買中式包同埋食材但係以西式嘅方法present.我今日就試咗佢嗰個Pork Belly Bao (豬腩肉包)如果你食開中餐,你會話個豬腩肉都叫做得到位,肉夠味夠軟夠肥,配埋啲洋蔥芥辣黎做漢堡包嘅效果都match. 但係只係得一塊豬腩肉加少少配菜醬汁同埋一組中式白包。咁就收$78....... 講真就算真係鋪租貴,但係佢收一半價錢$40 都肯定夠cover. $78 如果係餐都仲可以接受。所以呢啲餐都係留返俾西人食啦。

For those who've never been to Little Bao, I urge you to go ASAP! Not only do they serve amazing Baos (Chinese burgers), their shared plates are equally as good! I specially enjoy their Hot Chicken served with homemade pickles and shrimp crackers. The chicken legs are deep fried to perfection and coated generously with a tantalizing hot sauce that will make you lick the plate clean. Don't forget to order an ice cream bao for a sweet ending, my recommendation would be the Green Tea Ice Cream Bao

吃完正餐,怎能錯過Ice Cream Bao?
Green Tea Ice Cream Bao是以綠茶雪糕加上煉奶,因為綠茶雪糕不苦,再加上煉奶則有點太甜了。
個人則喜歡Salt Ice Cream w/ Caramel多了,雪糕與炸過的包口感很夾,焦糖的甜味亦豐富了整個味道。

朋友是素食者所有就去了這家小小包嘗新(有素食menu)等了一個小時後終於有位坐了(不提供訂位,去到服務員會告訴你幾點回來)第一個叫了紫蘇葉茄子冷盤,好吃的!紫蘇葉將酸辣味昇華,加上入味的茄子,是一個充滿freshness的盛宴!然後叫了truffle fries(我是真的很就我的素食朋友咯哈哈)truffle有嚼勁,醬汁類似caesar,配上醃製的黃椒和外脆內軟的薯條!什麼是色香味俱全你懂嗎?!視覺味覺的盛宴!最後那幾條薯條我也吃光了,hawt sauce好可愛到重頭戲包包的時候我是有點後勁不繼,最後打包了給男友吃。男友說好好吃,但怎麼好吃也不可能比新鮮出爐的truffle fries好吃哈哈哈(誰叫他不來哈哈哈)

到重頭戲包包的時候我是有點後勁不繼,最後打包了給男友吃。男友說好好吃,但怎麼好吃也不可能比新鮮出爐的truffle fries好吃哈哈哈(誰叫他不來哈哈哈)

We went to Little Bao on Thursday evening. Although there was a long waiting line, it cleared pretty fast. The place is very small, but  the seating is very comfortable and they do not jam pack it. We had some drinks to start with, then went to the Bao. Being a vegetarian, I took the Vegetable Chan. It looked small but was quite filling. The bao/bun was really fresh and soft. The burger filling was mushrooms and shallots, it was quite tasty and a good relief from the usual bean patty. My friend

Jumped in at exactly 6pm for a good bite. Ordered a lamb tartare and their signature classic pork belly bao. The lamb tartare is well seasoned. A great bite to start. The bao is soft, fluffy and soaking all the juice of the pork. Never a disappointment! Till next time again. The bao is definitely a good pairing with one of their red wine Amerai.

好一陣子沒來PMQ,趁週末來閒逛一下。更加記掛的是對面的小包包。下午兩點半、過了午飯時間沒什麼人。我倆被安排坐在吧檯一角,可觀看廚師準備及烹煮食物。開放式的廚房很整潔,食材看上去很新鮮並擺放得井井有條。要了"Pork Belly"它最有名的豬肉包包。中式的蒸包微煎過後、外邊有烘脆感、裡面是兩大塊豬腩肉、好像中式的東坡肉。豬腩肉軟腍、油脂瞬間溶化在口裡。燒烤醬加入了帶酸的紫洋蔥、除去了油膩感、亦同時豐富了味道。第二次吃仍是覺得很美味試了"Truffle fries",這麼豐富口感的松露薯條又真的很有驚喜。炒脆的薯條淋上用冬菇、免治肉、脆魚仔炒香的肉醬、再擠上松露蛋黃醬,未送上來已香氣撲鼻。最後加入日本的酸黃瓜。原來冬菇肉醬跟薯條是非常的夾、黃瓜的微酸亦提昇了整體味道很成功的Fusion dish,雖然這樣說很誇張,但所用食材都配合得天衣無縫另外值得一讚是店員親切有禮、一到埗便詢問要不要水、又提醒桌下有掛袋的地方、還主動替我們換碟。下次要再來試其他小食。

本來抱住硬掘嘅心態點多款包,為左要堂食,結果估唔到呢款仲好食過雪糕包,有少少驚喜。

呢個包係正常漢堡size,唔會好似雪糕包咁迷你,包嘅賣相都幾吸引,以兩塊饅頭夾住一塊大炸雞
見到店員keep住煎住啲饅頭,所以食落都幾軟熟,裡面仲有洋蔥絲、菜絲、黃瓜,伴酸酸地嘅醬汁,開胃。
炸雞相當香脆,雞肉嫩滑多汁,好食過香港嘅韓式炸雞,特別連雞皮炸,都完全唔油膩,醬汁居然有麻辣嘅感覺(?) 
食落唔麻,微辣,整體好有驚喜
不過價錢稍貴。

雖然我前後坐低十分鐘多啲,但見佢地咁繁忙,我地都好識趣,即刻埋單。

I was told by the friendly staff at the door that a 45 minute wait was in store for me, so I was pleasantly surprised when after 15 minutes and a few unanswered phonecalls to prospective customers, I was ushered in.Fine dining restaurant it is not. I was told by the friendly staff at the door that a 45 minute wait was in store for me, so I was pleasantly surprised when after 15 minutes and a few unanswered phonecalls to prospective customers, I was ushered in.

Fine dining restaurant it is not. Expect diners bumping your shoulders and waiters brushing your back as they squeeze past. However I never felt claustrophobic. A spotless environment together with warm attitudes of the servers elicited the vibe of a mix between a gastropub and a cha chaan teng. 

The menu is short but comprehensive, and easy to understand.  There are three Baos, probably inspired by the traditional Chinese 刈包, which are essentially burgers. There is  one vegetarian option.  On the left of the menu are 'Sharing plates', including salads, meats and other side orders. I went alone but ordered one sharing plate, Sesame Caesar (HKD78), and a Szechuan Fried Chicken Bao (HKD88). I also asked for a Chrysanthemum lemonade (HKD58), whichturned out to be a bad decision.

There were some positives. The lemonade was adequately fizzy with just the right amount of sweetening. However, chrysanthemum, being a delicate taste, was totally drowned by the barrage of other flavours. Alas, it did the job of refreshing one from the strenuous hike up from Central, and I was ready to dig into the Caesar that was to come.

It was quite a large portion by Central standards. It was to be eaten with chopsticks. Green lettuce leaves were tossed with Japanese style sesame sauce, topped up by probably fried onions. That was all, I thought, until I took the first bite. A familiar flavour greeted me...

FRIED DACE?! One of the staples of canned food, almost as popular as luncheon meat in Hong Kong, made it into the offerings of a chic eatery! I let out a big smile. For those who don't know, fried dace is a served in oval cans. It is oily, chewy and served with a ton of black beans. Other than being eaten alone, it is often used as a condiment, especially when cooking vegetables. Little Bao basically juxtaposed a Hong Kong trademark onto modern dining. I marvelled at their creativity. Tastewise, it was quite nice and the ingredients blended quite well. The lettuce was chopped into perfect sizes to fit into one bite. However, towards the end I felt that the fried dace was a bit too heavy, and the mildly acidic sesame sauce could not balance it out. I would suggest using a little less of this beloved snack.

My Bao arrived just as I was finishing off the last morsels of the salad.

The bun was white in colour. It was soft. It was, for lack of a better word, absorbent, which was a big plus as the sauce was literally oozing out. It was basically a Taiwanese 刈包. I dove in head first (my parents gifted me with a big mouth so I could sample everything in a gobble). I was pleasantly surprised, again.
There were pickles, mayo, sauce and chcken. The mayo was mayo. The sauce was probably a mix of black vinegar and barbecue sauce. The pickles were the kind of appetizer you would find in a Chinese restaurant serving Shanghainese or Northen cuisine, not the ones sold in a jar. It was crunchy and tangy, which wonderfully complemented the chicken, which was fantastic.

It was fried crisp, much better than the faux Korean eateries popping up like mushrooms lately. The flesh, a chicken thigh probably,  was tender and succulent. More importantly, there was the precious yellow fat 黃油 attached to it. Scrumptuous.

Little Bao describes their menu as 'spanning Asian influences'.  That is an understatement. It is Chinese cuisine from top to bottom, served to you by a waiter who speaks English. I like it. To serve excellent quality food in a modern environment is the best way to pay respect to ones roots. People complain about portions, but I had a filling meal for just under 250hkd, which is, by Soho standards, normal. Just don't order the lemonade.

今天去art central,同事说里边有好多street food,为了美食来的 :)看了一圈,选定了little bao,看起来太诱人了!而且我真的两个月没吃馒头了!里边有番茄酱 一些蔬菜 和 很大一块牛肉,味道不错,偏甜。还是推荐的!但是吃完之后,发现其实厅里有不到200的米其林,能想象我的背痛心情么!

 有日去pmq ,食了pork bully 同一個雪糕夾在中間的小包包雖然七十五蚊一個。但肉汁新鮮pork bully 新鮮即叫即做。包做得也軟。人流行多雖然是黃昏時間。但值得去等。環境雖然逼。但soho 食店都是咁上下。

Like many others, I've been wanting to try Little Bao for a while to see what the hype is about.

My friend and I went on a Sunday night at 7 pm, and we had about a half hour wait, which is to be expected. You can put down your name and number and go off while in queue so fairly reasonable.

We started off with the famed pork belly bao and fried chicken bao.

The pork belly was worthy off its sterling reputation, and was close to perfection. The braising spices gave it subtle depth of flavour, beautifully balanced by the pickled vegetables and sauce.


The fried chicken was also very tasty and well executed, with a distinctive tasty Sichuan mayo, but it's not winning any awards.

We also had the shortrib pan fried dumpling (gyoza) style that was very nicely executed. Their talents definitely lie in the slow cooking department.

At this point we were still not full, so ordered the vegetarian Sloppy Chan, which we'd read good things about. The best way to describe the filling is it's very similar to a mushroom duxelle, usually found in a beef Wellington. A paste of shiitake mushrooms paired with truffle mayo will probably not be too everyone's taste. Not bad, but the pickled vegetables weren't enough to lift the earthy base.

At this point my friend was full, but I went ahead with the dessert bao. This was smaller sized and deep fried with a filing of salt ice cream and caramel. Oh golly, this was an absolute decadent treat.


I also had the yuzu leaf cocktail. Pleasant enough, but it tasted more lemon than yuzu (which has a very distinctive flavour).

For the price and the setting (it's a very small, casual counter style venue), I think it's overpriced. Wouldn't hurry to go back, but wouldn't object either, now that I've pinpointed things on the menu I like.

To me, this is very good comfort food, but priced at 50% more than it's worth. But you can judge for yourself.
