In a group of 7 we went to Pizza Hut@Chong Yip Centre for a pretty late supper. The place has been renovated since I last visited and now looks a lot more high-class. We were allocated a longer table near the entrance, sadly by a rather rude waitress with a long face. Nevermind, we were not going there with expectations for great services anyway. After studying the menu for sometime we settled with 2 combos: the American Express Dine-in Combo for 2($248) and the Indulgent Party Combo for 4($438)

Guess that's plenty enough to fill up the stomach of 7 hungry uni freshmen. So here goes the pretty simple food review@Pizza Hut:
You wont be surprised by the soup served in Pizza Hut. The cream of chicken soup is consistently thick and creamy, and carries the obvious taste of the Campbell canned soup. Its not a bad thing if you like the taste, and personally I am quite fond of it (part of my childhood memory? hmmm), but it would be much better if they serve garlic bread or just bread slices that you can dip into the soup to eat with.
The second dish that landed onto our table was, surprise! Spaghetti Carbonara. Perhaps they should have left the main dishes only after the salads and appetizers are ready...aw....and the problem is, this plate of self-proclaimed Carbonara does not stick to its name. Where's the egg on the spaghetti? And i did not see the bacon bits but a hell lot of cheese powder. I did not try it myself but i bet it tasted similar to plain old spaghetti cooked with cream sauce, and I guess that's how the dish should be called.
Next were the Mashed potato and Caesar Salad. The salad was totally messed up-the lettuce were cut into way too big wedges to be neatly tuck into one's mouth, and they were not very fresh either. The cheese powder(again) were nominal - they should have transfered their shake from the spaghetti to the salad. The dressing was alright, tasted right but was too thick to be mixed well into the veggies. Bacon stripes should be cubes instead of long, and i could not understand why and how the croutons could go wrong. They were not crispy but soggy and, as a matter of fact, STALE! I guess they were making these out of few-days-old garlic bread. Thats completely alright, croutons could be kept safe and fresh in air-tight containers for a few days, but they should at least have tried to maintain their crispiness.
The Stuffed Chicken Wings looked quite promising. This was another dish that i did not try but I heard pretty positive comments over the wings. The baked wings at Pizza Hut are usually tasty and juicy, so i deduce that this should be something cool as well.
The much-anticipated Cheesy-6 regular pizza finally arrived. It looked smaller than what I had expected - or was it because I had not eaten in a Pizza Hut outlet for too long that I have forgotten the size of a regular pizza? anyway, I quickly took a slice of the pizza, which is, to be frank, the sole reason why I was going to Pizza Hut for dinner after having a whole bowl of Japanese Ramen for brunch.
Appearance: pretty promising, it looked similar to what's illustrated in the ADs - impressive in this commercial world full of cunning businessmen. It smelt nice of melting cheese and ham too. The cheese 'pulled' as i bit into it, and the texture was oh-so-soft-and-springy. The taste of the cheese was pretty sweet and strong, contrasted with the thin layer of tomato sauce brushed on the pizza crust, and this had made the pizza less dry and more tasty than what i had tried at Wildfire some months ago. One major problem, however, was that 5 of the 6 cheeses were of a much too similar flavour and texture that you could not tell the difference except by looking at the different shades of yellos and oranges on the pizza. But the white scopes on top were actually cream cheese and they were distinct in both taste and texture, being sweeter and softer. As they were along the fringe of the pie you basically eat it only before you almost finish your slice, and the distinctively different cheese will give you a fond cheesy surprise, causing you to want more and cant help but help yourself with another slice We were smart enough to have ordered Ham and Pineapple variety cause the two ingredients had further given complexity to the taste and texture of the pizza - a plain pizza with just cheese would be quite boring to eat, especially when you are putting cheeses with similar tastes and textures, instead of strongly contrasting ones like brie with Stilton and cheddar etc. Plus, the black olive has further enhanced the taste of the cheese and you can only find it on the shrimp and tomato or ham and pineapple varieties.
Another pizza we got was a large supreme seafood with stuffed crust - a combination that would be tasty for sure! Pizza Hut may not be serving the most authentic pizza in town but its Stuffed crust with molten cheese rushing out from the 'pan' of the pie is non-resistible.
The pizza had seafood like fake crabmeat sticks and squids as toppings on the thousand island base and was nice as well.
Pizza Hut is definitely not an advocate for the correct order of serving differences courses in a meal as one baked appetizer came only after the pizza. The Italian Mini Pork Sausage was cooked in quite a distinctive tomato compote which tasted both sweet, sour and hot. It went extremely well with the Meaty Baked Mash Potato which was too dry, but then it would taste similar to the Lasagna, which is made of similar ingredients.
Then came the Italian Chicken Rice. You could actually smell the strong localness simply by reading its funnily translated English name. It did not taste bad but we were all beyond satisfied to eat anymore, especially a dish with so much starch from rice. The lump of rice covered with the 'Italian' sauce was so huge that I bet there were two bowlfuls of rice in it.
Last came the Thousand Island Seafood Con Carne, which I tried half. The coating was baked till crispy and, surprisingly, the filling seafood with a tint of thousand island dressing was refreshing and tasty - I detected some squids and fish and crab meat which tasted well in the roll. Nice stuff from Pizza Hut at last. The meal did not end there however - we got 6 drinks and 6 scopes of Vanilla ice creams with strawberry sauce included in our combos. Too full to eat anymore, most of us settled with hot drinks to help digestion.
The Ice cream looked halfway melted and thus pretty awful. They tasted bland and were surely the products from Dairy Co, but what can you ask for from Pizza Hut, Haagen Dazs? I guess thats already pretty decent, the food and everything, given the amount of money you are paying - at $110 for a meal so big that is beyond the ability of seven teens to finish, I bet that's pretty a bargain. I was slightly disappointed by the Cheesy-6 as, being a fan of Cheeses, i was indeed expecting something more, something more cheesy and something less 'localized' in the sense that they are trying way too hard to suit the tastes of the HK customers. If blue cheese is needed to give a richer variety of taste to the cheesy pizza, put it, and put a hell lot of it for flavour and variety's sake, is what i'd do.
