We came here on a Saturday evening for dinner, after reading some of the reviews here and seeing that it has top ranking in taste among Hong Kong Island Indian restaurants.
We ordered dal Mahkani and a prawn biriyani, a parantha bread and a green onion nan. We also ordered a sweet lassi and a mango lassi.
The lassi's came first. Fresh tasting but otherwise unremarkable. No spice was used in my sweet lassi, so it was just sweet. There were some rose water added but curiously not a hint of rose petal taste. The mango lassi quickly separated into yoghurt and water. The dal was a large portion, but otherwise also quite average.
We ordered the chicken biriyani but on recommendation of the head waiter / boss(?) we ordered the prawn biriyani instead. Of course, as expected, it turned out to be shrimps rather than prawns. No problem there. However, the shrimps had no taste at all. Must have been frozen for a long long time. We act one piece of prawns each and left the rest of the prawns untouched. The head waiter should have let us order the chicken biriyani. It is not possible that he does not know the shirmps have been long frozen and tasteless. Hong Kong is not very receptive to Indian cuisine. Up market Indian restaurants like Veda just could not last. Too bad.
