The appetizer selection was fine quality . We had a very nice Beef Tartar with a shoot of bloody Mary on the side, Wild mushroom soup witch has been pourted in front of us, Foie gras, and a wonderful Main lobster salad (very tasty, fresh and light)
The Main dishes was Great specially the Roasted Atlantic Scallops, and the Lamb so juice and tender.
The Manager was very nice and friendly (Handsome Italian) and suggest us the Impossible Chocolate Tart with the Wisky ice-cream, to be eat with Moscato D'asti Tipical Italian Sweet wine, very sweet but light.
All the staff were attentive and amicable. They made us feel very comfortable and well served.
We had a long rectangular table for 10 people well set up in a very nice room witch the Manger explained us was all hand paint and represent The bay in the 1881.
We had a really nice night.

This is the second time I have been hosted to an event at 1881. The first time was afternoon tea on the lawn which was very nice and this time it's a dinner party at Parlour.The place looks spectacular at night. This is the second time I have been hosted to an event at 1881. The first time was afternoon tea on the lawn which was very nice and this time it's a dinner party at Parlour.

The place looks spectacular at night. On the approach from the street, you can see the old building all lit up and as the venue is on 2 floors above, you can look up and see people on the verandah at the reception. By the time I arrived, it was almost time to sit down. So I didn't have a drink.

It was a 4 course meal. The waiters came around with 2 types of bread. Sliced French baguette and dark German bread. Both were crusty on the outside and soft in the inside, like it had just been baked and cooled. Since they kept replacing, I had 4 pieces altogether. As a bread fan, I don't consider that a waste of stomach space.

The first course was a raw fish dish, so I went for the vegetarian option of a Garden salad with lots of flower petals and a walnut vinaigrette dressing. Ideal as a starter to a big dinner as it isn't filling and very refreshing on the palate.

The second course was fish on a mushroom bed with truffle sauce. I found the fish quite fishy and didn't finish it. But the sauce and mushrooms were good.

Third course was poached wagyu beef with a few vegetable pieces. I didn't really understand this dish as it was a little tasteless and the beef not good quality enough to be wagyu beef surely. Not even the lowest grade. It didn't look or taste marble at all. Since it was just one piece, bland but fine to eat, I ate it up

Dessert was most interesting. Chocolate cake with a layer of fruit sherbet and a layer of salted caramel sauce in the middle. I liked it for being creative and new. Also presented in an attractive way

Strangely enough, there was no coffee or petit fours even though our host were French.

The room was beautiful as it was dimly lit and there were paintings of what looked like the Royal Pavilion in Brighton on the wall. I think the whole project 1881 Heritage has a colonial theme. After dinner, we strolled out to the verandah to chat for a bit and then I headed home.

環境真的一流,比起其他大酒店的Lobby Lounge,這裹可算是舒適和平易近人,會再來,但希望在食物上可以再人性化些(了解人客的需要)

when we went in, the waitress told us, they only serve afternoon tea set or sandwiches (it was around 2pm at the time we arrived). we have ordered afternoon tea set for 3 persons with 2 Earl Grey Tea, and 1 cappuccino, when the drinks arrived, we only got 1 pot of tea, the server told us, we would get refill......

during our stay in the restaurant, there were a lot of server walking around with heavy / VERY rush steps which made me feel stress, we were hoping to have a relax afternoon on the weekend, but ended up....we didnt......

when we asked for refill of our tea, they just put hot water in it without adding tealeaves...which made it "a cup of hot water" not tea.......
With this kinda price of afternoon tea set, i think we should deserve better service and food

今日相約朋友HIGH TEA, 一行六人。見1881新開幕,決定一試。之前曾看過這裡的食評,知道餐廳的服務尚有改善空間,心裡都打定折扣。抱着一試無妨的心態,就不易動氣。誰不知,未入餐廳已經領教餐廳的高招。門口的接待員要人齊才能入內,態度惡劣。入座後,朋友想要DRINK MENU,待應竟然將MENU傳給我,示意我轉交友人。此情此景,在高級餐廳內算是相當罕見。TEA SET是咸點先來。有朋友進食速度較慢,尚有一件咸點在碟上,待應伸手指向餐碟,問:「係咪唔要?」 朋友唯有快快手,將剩下的一件餅叉起。這種茶記的服待質素竟然出現在此餐廳,實在令人相當意外。接著,待應在我們的餐枱來來回回,相當騷擾。我在其他地方HIGH TEA時也從沒遇過這種事情,感覺就像待應想我們快快用餐,然後離開。2:45分入座,不到4:15分就走。以6個女士的HIGH TEA 聚會來說,是相當匆忙的HIGH TEA。大家都不想再待在這餐廳裡,便示意結賬。結果,賬單幾乎不到一分鐘就遞過來。給人一種 「我一早想你班女人走架啦!準備好!俾完錢快走!」的感覺。食物還算OK,茶跟餅也可以。結賬時每位220元。質素、跟級數相當的酒店、

因為雜誌介紹, 眼見環境唔錯, 於是同朋友滿心歡喜黎食 high tea. 結果真係好唔開心!講真個 tea set 又唔係平, $390/2 個人 (上次我係太子大廈間 Sevva 大家價錢差唔多 $500 2 個人, 不過完全 2 回事), 正常可以食到個唔錯既食物, 可惜由佢地比杯咖啡我開始已經令我好失望! 因為佢地祇係比一杯微暖既咖啡我, 當時我都唸唔起叫佢地換過比我........見到個 cake set 黎到, 三文冶既麵包係硬, 我地懷疑係隔夜麵包, 其他既 cake 已經唔想再食落去, 不過 D 侍應服務就唔錯, 無咩特別我唸我唔會再黎!

It is most important, the atmosphere is really set up in this wonderful scenery.The dinner did not start smoothly, especially, there was a mixed up of the reservation. I was given faces. 2ndly, their standard size of table for both 2 and four people are the same. And their flexibility of management was poor and inexperienced.The Menu is not exactly of English cuisine, but European and a bit of everything really! T

The Menu is not exactly of English cuisine, but European and a bit of everything really! The pricing on the menu was surprisingly acceptable.

The wine that was chosen and recommended was flowery aroma, in facts, more for a light afternoon sun shine chit chat.

Anyway, all of us started with:
Soups - The lobster Bisque was without soul and too fluffy. Wild Mushroom soup that my friend was OK with.
Main courses, we had:
Risotto - The rice was shattered and those round and fat ones.
Cod & Seabass - were both over cooked. Honestly! Overcooking Cod, Really??? Not easy and you will know what is meant by overcooked.

Again, the Desert menu i snot exciting. And we were complimented.

After all, it was a beautiful setting. Quietly set in the middle of busy area. Colonial feeling and back to how Hong Kong was like before 1997.

Each of us ordered main courses (a la carte), some ordered salad / soup and a bottle of white wine

food was really nice, we like the soup and all our main courses (fish / steak / lamb / pasta / scallops)

Incident 1: we brought with us a cake for our friends' birthday, they said (with blaming tone and black face) that they don't "allow" cake-cutting at their restaurant but since we've brought it there, they could still help us with the cake-cutting but a $80 per head service charge will be imposed (which means we have to pay $880). I don't understand this policy / ARRANGEMENT, since there's no birthday cake which we could order from the menu, how could they charge us $80 per head, we didn't bring 11 pieces of cut-cakes for the celebration, they didn't care to please their customers and were not flexible at all! And the staff told my friend that they don't encourage guests to bring their own wine to the restaurant either, as a similar corkage policy applies. they just kept on emphasizing that they don't encourage this and that… quoted from my birthday friend - we don't encourage our friends to go there!

Incident 2: we arrived at the restaurant at different times, the waiters did not come to our table and asked us what we'd like to drink, each of us gotta ask them separately for water and their responses were slow.

Incident 3: there were 11 of us, and they only gave us one small bowl of bread, not until we asked for more. How come we need to ask for water & food? Were we supposed to share 5 pieces o f bread?

Incident 4: we made reservation for 10 ppl, one more friend turned up and we asked for an extra seat, the waitress simply pulled a chair from the next table and put that at the end of our long table, we thus asked her to arrange for one more table for our friend. She then asked if we need two more seats. Oh mine! I thought I's dining at some sort of local "tea house"!

Incident 5: we decided not to have our cake-cutting session held at this restaurant, the waiter then brought the birthday cake to us and put it on the floor! I's wondering if they could serve their customers better, like put the cake on the table next to us where nobody sat there or on the small side table which was just next to our dining table! Another alternative is that they could have kept the cake at the exit (as our table was set at the far end of the restaurant and we had to walk all the way to the exit a nyways). It'd be nice if they could do that. But obviously, they didn't serve us with hearts.

Remark: there's dress code for gentlemen, no shorts, no runners / slippers / sandals (they informed me when confirming my booking, I think it'd be better if they could inform their customers when making reservation.)

Spinach salad was tasty with Smoked duck, frios gras etc & spinach of course. Salmon was juz ok, but creative with the pear slice and jelly beneath the salmon, a fusion dish. Lamb cutlets was brilliant too, soft and juicy too, most outstanding is the potato mesh beside the lamb, even its in small portion, still very tasty & smooth. You can juz see the chef aims for perfection.

Saw this restaurant on newspaper last week and decided to give it a try.We ordered tea set for 2. I had early grey while my boyfriend had ice mocha. Not sure if it was because of its setting (no separation between indoors and outside), a tiny fly landed on his mocha so he had to get another glass, and it took quite a long time before it came.So our set arrived. So our set arrived. It didn't came all at once, savory came in a separate dish.
There were cucumber sandwiches, diced smoked salmon sandwiches, eggs with mayonnaise sandwich, ham & butter sandwich and the puff-like thing. the whole set would look better if it came in one piece, when there could be fewer sandwiches but more pastries or cakes. the sandwiches are good, especially the puff, a delight among the ordinary sandwiches.

and the rest came. the scones were ok. we had raspberry jam with clotted cream. glad that the size of the scones weren't too large, so we still had room for pastries
though I think the clotted cream from MO or Four Seasons tasted better.

and time for the pastries! the heart-shaped cake caught our eye right when the set landed on the table! it looked so cute! it was actually a cheesecake with strawberry jam on top
and the mini cupcake with flower was good too! just the size which you could swallow in one bite
there was also lemon macaron, chocolate mousse and puff with caramel glaze.

Food was overall decent, it was just that the ambience was a bit noisy. and it did take some time before the tea set came. otherwise, the experience was pretty nice. would come again for tea or something else
