The FRIED RICE has generous amounts of oil and it's really delicious (and equally unhealthy
).
The SKEWERS are nicely grilled and have that slightly smoky/slightly burnt flavor to them...which is great.
The peanut sauce is sweet and complements the lightly-spiced fried rice quite well. If they could make the fried rice more spicy, it would be even better, but I'm not complaining.
The PRICE is right! For $60, it includes the dish AND iced lemon tea.

The SEATING IS ABSOLUTELY CRAMPED....And I mean literally "elbow to elbow" with the next person.
But when you are in lunch-conversations with friends/colleagues and you got this tasty dish in front of you.... the seating doesn't bother you so much (in fact, after half a dozen lunches at Thainan in past few months... I'm starting to get used to the cramped seating
)
The WAITING TIME during lunch hours can sometimes be quite long (once we waited 20 mins in queue), since Thainan is a hot-favorite among the office crowd in Central.
I'd imagine it must be a lot quicker and a lot less crowded during non-lunch hours.

在中環想吃個平平地的午餐並不容易,難怪遠遠已見到Thainan Chicken外面有條隊。等位期間,忽然下起大雨,幸好沒有去太遠。躲在簷篷下,耐心地等位。終於有位了,雖然是坐在外面的高枱,面向著人龍。下雨天,吹著涼風,坐在外面頗涼快。午餐有四個選擇,也可以點Grill的串燒。先點餐付款,再去就座,待店員把食物送上。去骨泰南雞飯$60連飲品是幾抵食的,可是雞看起來不太吸引。夾開有兩件雞胸、兩件雞脾和一隻雞翼。雞胸不嚡,雞脾嫩滑,但欠雞味。辣醬微辣帶酸,清新開胃。醬油濃郁帶甜,也可以。油飯大份,有油香卻乾身而不油膩,飯軟硬度控制得宜,口感不錯。墊在雞的下面,有不少椰菜,但白灼的椰菜煮得太腍,欠口感。$60大大份,絕對吃得飽,雖然雞差少少,但有醬汁調味,挽回味道上的分數,油飯亦可以,算是不過不失。泰式串燒配炒飯及雜菜招牌的串燒,質素有保證。雞、牛、豬都不錯,肉質肉味都佳,但三款的調味差不多,欠驚喜。炒飯吃起來有嚼勁,但偏油,油飯比其更乾身。用了甜醬油炒出好看的深啡,反而較喜歡它的香料味和混著辣椒粒做出的辣度。青木瓜手撕泰南雞沙律最健康的套餐,沒有碳水化合物,只有堆成座山的青木瓜絲和充滿蛋白質

青木瓜手撕泰南雞沙律
最健康的套餐,沒有碳水化合物,只有堆成座山的青木瓜絲和充滿蛋白質的手撕雞。雞肉不嚡,很腍,跟泰南雞飯的雞胸差不多,沒甚味道。青木瓜都幾爽口,偏乾。淋上甜、辣的汁,味道就剛好。雞肉吸了汁的味道都不錯。

It's my 3rd time here and as usual, we ordered Hainan Chicken rice. hK$60 per set inclusive of hot drinks. The chicken is boneless but the meat tastes a bit stiff this time. The best part is the sauce. There is soy sauce and spicy chicken sauce. Soy sauce is very very good! Spicy sauce is ok. The rice is a bit dry and hard. Portion is fair. Service is efficient but the staff need better English listening skills. A good alternative for lunch in central.

一向都喜歡旁邊的串燒店,有天午飯時間經過發現好像多開了一家食海南雞飯的,而且價錢在中環區來說挺實惠,便選了個晚上與朋友試試去。我點了一個泰式豬頸肉沙律,而朋友就點了去骨海南雞飯。豬頸肉沙律是比較辣的,而且味道夠重。豬頸肉燒得還不錯,厚薄也算適宜。由於有點太辣了,想向店員取些水,這裡是不提供的,又不想喝啤酒,有點無癮,也是要點罐汽水甚麼的。而朋友的海南雞飯也好像有點令她失望,應該未達到以海南雞作招徠的餐廳應有水準吧。整體而言,麻麻地啦。我們還點了些串燒,應該是隔壁取過來的。串燒倒真的是不錯。燒菠蘿和牛肉,正。這小店另外一個大問題,應該是強得令人透不過氣的空調了。下次還是到隔壁單吃串燒好了。但如果五十多元,吃個外賣還是過得去的。

今日心情好好特登去送朋友番工,一大早同佢食個早餐就送佢番工,之後周圍行下,中午時間諗住去酒吧街飲杯酒,點知見到間串燒店。Gill串燒店旁邊開左間姐妹店。主打串燒。有特色酒類飲品。馳名串燒飯,包括3種不同串燒,分別有豬肉/雞肉/牛肉各一串,其實單點就$15/串,午市飯價$60/客,包括餐飲,午市性價比非常高。串燒肉嫩不乾身,燒得入味香口,沙爹醬非常出色。炒飯飯粒煙韌,加上香料和紅椒,炒得香口濃味,帶微微香辣。

今晚好難得約咗BB去食飯,揀咗間泰國菜,Thainan,點知原來主打係燒烤嚟㗎發現餐廳感覺自由奔放,與一般傳統泰國餐廳不一樣,感覺很火熱熱情,有好多外國人幫襯呢!八時左右到達時,很可惜最出名嘅海南雞飯已經賣晒啦我哋分別點無骨鳳爪, 我其實唔係太食得辣,呢一道菜辣辣地,但係會我仍然忍唔住係咁食、係咁食。仲勁大碟呀!等二個係重頭戲:老蘭傳說中的串燒炒飯,燒烤配搭炒飯,大大份價錢好抵,雞牛豬一次過試晒不過今晚同bb 想食得開心d, 所以ontop 叫多左些許串燒同小食呢隨即上埋串燒,大蝦一見到已經吸引左我目光,本身只係想點俾我朋友,但我自己之後見到就即刻想點第二份,大蝦真係勁大條呀!仲有超超超好好味嘅鱔魚,下次再去一定點,仲有朋友最愛嘅多汁燒菠蘿等等...串燒仲有多種醬汁選擇!其中我最愛thai 風濃厚的青咖哩醬蘭桂芳泥講價錢真係抵食,食得好飽,環境優美,仲吹水吹左好耐添!

發現餐廳感覺自由奔放,與一般傳統泰國餐廳不一樣,感覺很火熱熱情,有好多外國人幫襯呢!

我哋分別點無骨鳳爪, 我其實唔係太食得辣,呢一道菜辣辣地,但係會我仍然忍唔住係咁食、係咁食。仲勁大碟呀!

Grill嘅串燒係每次經過都聞到鬼死咁香,食過兩三次都ok,最可惜係冇得坐低食.. 點知因緣巧合又真係有隔離個鋪位吉左!終於有個地方可以堂食😋嘩... 係咪好吸引先??大大塊透明玻璃俾你望住佢燒到串串立立令✨有lunch menu,$60一個串燒飯,豬牛雞串燒散嗌各$15,咁$60完全合理啦🌞嗌左個串燒飯,豬牛雞各一,全部都入味,又燒得腍,一啲都唔會靭或者乾👍🏻仲有跟嗰個沙嗲汁,甜甜地,唔辣嘅,都好好味!個飯佢話係炒飯,唔知佢用咩米?夾起已經覺得黏黏地,仲有啲豆角呀,三色椒粒一齊炒,除左唔夠熱之外,都冇咩彈😬

嗌左個串燒飯,豬牛雞各一,全部都入味,又燒得腍,一啲都唔會靭或者乾👍🏻仲有跟嗰個沙嗲汁,甜甜地,唔辣嘅,都好好味!個飯佢話係炒飯,唔知佢用咩米?夾起已經覺得黏黏地,仲有啲豆角呀,三色椒粒一齊炒,除左唔夠熱之外,都冇咩彈😬

晚上與友人相約到蘭桂芳,經過看到Grill旁邊的Thainan Chicken,決定先到這裡晚餐。餐廳環境不俗,有室內和室外位置,我們到達時間較早,人流不算太多。餐牌選擇以串燒為主要,還可以點選海南雞飯、串燒炒飯等飽肚食物,價錢相當合理。我們點了半隻海南雞,味道不差,最令我驚喜的是串燒!串燒有白鱔、豬脛肉、雞中翼、雞肉、牛仔骨,可選擇小辣,味道更佳!牛仔骨很大一串最喜歡的白鱔香口的豬脛肉傳說中的蘭桂芳串燒炒飯最後還點了一杯Mojito,賣相不錯!

中環美食數之不盡,但如今又多了一個好去處在串燒店隔壁,有泰式雞飯店,供應著簡單的泰式風味,除了上次試過的串燒之外,今次食既,係無骨雞飯估不到串燒以外,此店的雞飯也很出眾,雞肉很滑,有彈性,味香,輕微調味過的雞肉配醬计食也可口,飯帶黏性但不會太淋,份量也夠我飽肚的六十蚊,包凍茶一杯,性價比高得不敢相信,何況身在中環……見其他食客不約而同在吃三枝串燒配炒飯,令我好奇地想試,奈何quota有限,唯有留待下次

When I first moved to Hong Kong about 4 years ago, I ate Thai food much more often than I do now. I had been to a handful of places in Central/Western district, but after a certain point I just stopped being impressed by it. The standard dishes all just started to blend together in a mash of lemongrass,  fish sauce, and mediocrity, so Thai food in general isn't often tempting for us. The shop itself is somewhat odd: it sits right next door to its older brother, the Thai skewer take-away shop, the Grill, that proudly displays its kitchen so passers-by can see the magic happen. What's odd about this is that the Grill next door dwarfs the actual Thainan restaurant where we ate. This wouldn't be an issue except for that the interior *feels* small, even for Hong Kong standards. The stools and tables are cramped, especially for a tall foreigner like myself. This would be less of a problem if it wasn't for the restaurant's odd policy of requiring the customers to walk to the front counter to order, so if you want to get some extra BBQ goodies if you don't think your dish is filling enough, you have to shimmy your stool and make your way up front to ask the one server for it. Another nit-picky thing: the overhead lighting is obnoxious and uncomfortable. It's like eating under a spotlight, and it makes for crap picture-taking.
Granted, there is no service charge at this place, but I found the combination of the cramped-ness and inconvenient ordering policy to be excessive at any rate.  Of course, this place is just the younger sibling of the Grill next door, but these little oddities add up to give the place an indecisive feel. Is it a restaurant? a cafeteria? a take-away place? From the inside, it's tough to tell.

We were surprised at about 3:30PM to be greeted with the lunch set menu, which runs until 6 o'clock. I'll admit that at first glance, it looks relatively unimpressive---so much so that I began to mentally prepare for Hong Kong Thai food mediocrity at its most mediocre, but it was all for naught. What stands out the most on the lunch menu, however, is the price: $60 is impressively low, I think, for a lunch special. I ordered the roast meat lunch special, while my wife ordered the beef in green curry.  From the grill next door, we also ordered the roast fish cakes, squid, pork neck, beef.

The plating could use some work, I think, and the cold, boiled vegetables under the roast meat was as confused as I was. They weren't bad, per se, since their only purpose I gather was to cleanse the pallet and mellow out the rich flavors of the meat and rice, which they successfully did, but I would have much preferred---and to be honest I expected---a bed of lettuce, or even just a slice of romaine or some cucumber. I won' dock them too many points for that though, since I was glad to have some veggies in the midst of what otherwise would have been a pure meat-fest.

The first thing I was impressed by was the satay sauce, which is atypical. Satay sauce often just strikes me as salty peanut butter goop. This stuff was good though. It wasn't too salty, and the chunks of peanut nicely accented the otherwise smooth sauce. Nor was it at all gritty like some of the other satay sauce I've been subjected to. Well done.
BBQ  roast  beef  and  pork

The BBQ beef was exquisite in ways I did not expect at first glance. It looked exactly how most roast meat does: charred and crispy on the outside, but probably overdone and without any especially exciting flavors on the inside. My eyes they did deceive me though. The meat was soft, tender, and full of the sweet flavor of the marinade they used. Maybe I just don't get out enough, but that was the first time I can recall being so thoroughly impressed by the flavor of roast meat. The chicken and pork skewers were also surprising in the best possible way. The chicken was tender, moist, and had a lovely subtle sweetness from the marinade. Well done.

The lemongrass fried rice was the second dish to thoroughly impress. It had a *serious* spicy kick to it that I hadn't ever gotten from other the other Thai fried rice I've had in Hong Kong. Even more pleasantly surprising was how it was neither over-salted nor over-oiled, which are two things that often ruin fried rice for me. Again, well done.

My wife got the beef in green curry, and once again we were both thoroughly impressed. After seeing the tiny dish the curry came in, I got a bit worried, but again for naught. The flavor is way too good for the dish it comes in. The best thing to say about the curry soup itself was that it tasted very balanced. One of the ways curry can be underwhelming for me is if an ingredient stands out too much: either the lemongrass, the coconut, or the fish sauce/shrimp paste. This curry though was well-rounded. The beef was of course tender and flavorful, but perhaps the most pleasant surprise was the texture of the Thai eggplant wedges. Often, these little guys are mush by the time they make it to your mouth, but these in particular were fully cooked but came with a nice crunch that really complemented the tenderness of the beef. Well done yet again.

The extra roasted stuff we ordered was a bit of a mixed bag (2 actually. And yes, I had to find my way out of the stool mid-meal and make my way up front to order it). First, the good: The roast pork neck, a Thai restaurant standard, was exactly what I expected: good, but not stellar like the other roast meats. A way it could be improved for me is to have the edges be a bit more charred. Because of the otherwise soft, fatty, and heavy texture of the pork neck, the kind I enjoy the most has those crispy, crunchy edges. This one, however, did not. Still good though. The roast beef was also good, and unlike the beef in the lunch special, was covered in a fish sauce with raw garlic and chili peppers pepper. I know that's probably how the grill does things for their take-away customers, but I think it would have been better if they served the sauce separately, so the customer can decide how much they want. It was yummy of course, but I'm not sure I wanted fish sauce *all* over my BBQ beef. We probably could have asked for it on the side, so shame on us. We will definitely ask next time though.

The BBQ seafood was exactly what I expected: mediocre. The squid was nicely charred but dried out, the way I'm used to it, and the BBQ fish cakes are exactly what you would expect: BBQ fish cakes on a stick. These dishes, I think, were the most underwhelming of all. Not bad, but not memorable.

Overall this place was a nice surprise, but I think their food is best enjoyed somewhere else, like home. I would definitely return for their lunch specials, particularly the two we ordered, but I would not be surprised if the other two specials, the cold chicken  and the papaya salad were also impressive.
I give it 4 stars for taste, but that's only because of the mediocre seafood and the confused vegetables. The other stuff was five star taste. Decor and service get 2 stars because of how uncomfortable the place is and it's awkward ordering policy. 4 for hygeine because it's definitely clean, and 4 for value because of the 5 star lunch special value and the 3 star grilled items.
