I noticed that Waffills had changed their menu, I finally decided to give it a try. When it first opened, they had weird flavored waffles that were savory like curry. And the sweet ones didn't look interesting. So, I gave it a pass. But today I walked by and saw they discarded the weird savory waffles and the uninteresting sweet ones for waffles only focused on the sweet waffles. The place is still very small. When you arrive, they now have lead you to a table and you order from there. As there was a lot of people waiting for Via Tokyo next door, I got a table with ease.
I ordered the Ma Cherie apple fillled waffle. ($62) There was a side of super warm cherry sauce with no cherries in it (unlike the photo on the menu which had chunks of whole cherries). It was quite tart which I liked but it didn't taste like actual home made cherry sauce. It tasted a bit like the cherry sauce you get from a can. The waffle was lightly sprinkled with powdered sugar and there was a squirt of whipped cream on top. Whipped cream was sadly bland. I don't understand how hard it is for Hong Kong shops to use a teaspoon of vanilla in their whipped cream? Isn't it considered a basic addition?
