油塘近海邊的私人住宅區越來越多, 但是附近餐廳數目寥寥可數, 要麽就是花七至八分鐘上山去大本營, 吃連鎖食肆的劣食, 要麼就是光顧樓下的老友記. 老友記位置不大, 主打是車仔麵和碟頭飯, 老闆睇中商機, 也因為附近私人屋苑的地面商場承租力低, 也就開了這家老友記廚房, 除了面積大得多外, 在炒粉麵飯和碟頭飯以外, 也有火鍋和晚市小菜供應, 叫做舒緩一下這美食荒漠的旱情.來到這裏最常見的是豬頸肉炒公仔麵, 公仔麵雖然不是出前一丁, 但在豉油上色和乾爽度之中算是處理得很不錯, 而且豬頸肉外脆內腍, 兩種主要食材沒有因為烹調時間不同而失去平𧗽. 同樣優點也在炒飯身上見到, 當然和東九頂尖的金飯館還有一段距離, 但作為在家工作時的Working Lunch也算可以. 反而黑椒雜扒飯的黑椒汁只有鹹味而欠缺辛香, 而扒類油膩而肉質偏實, 雖然飽肚, 但還是炒粉麵飯更合心意.The most common dish I tasted in Lo Yau Kee Kitchen is stir-fried instant noodles with pork neck meat. Although it's not as famous as a specific brand like "Ippei-chan," the noodles are well-cooked with a good soy sauce color and a dry texture. The pork neck meat is crispy on the outside and tender on the inside, and both main ingredients retain their tenderness despite having different cooking times. The same advantages can be seen in fried rice as well. Of course, it's still a long way from the top-notch Kam Fung Kui Restaurant in East Kowloon, but it serves as a decent working lunch option when working from home. On the other hand, the black pepper sauce of the black pepper mixed grill rice is only salty and lacks spiciness. The grilled meats are greasy and the texture leans towards being firm. Although it fills the stomach, stir-fried noodles or rice are still more satisfying.
