Having been to Alan Yau's restaurants in London I was excited with the news of his new restaurant in IFC. The decor was very nice and upmarket-looking. The food however was such a disappointment. The bread tasted stale. Nothing was hot. The chips were soggy. Everything was too salty. As one guest was lactic intolerant we requested for no cream. The ordered fafalle came in a cream sauce ! It will be a long while before I will be going back to this restaurant.

The ambiance was very bright and pleasant.

However, the restautant was poorly managed. After the salds we had to wait 20+ mins for our main courses and after requested complaints and the waiters, while trying to be pleasant, did not remember what each person had ordered and did not seem to be doing much when we complained about the delay and we had to scream at the manager.

A new restaurant in IFC and the decor looks nice so we decided to give it a try.
The place was not bad but dont know why the blocked the seaview.

We had:
Lamb rack - Medium rare, cooked to perfection and was yummy.
Pork belly - way too fat and skin wasnt crispy at all
Duck fat fries - stale and wasnt 香given that it was fried with duck fat
truffle & brie potato gratin - just so-so.. couldnt taste the truffle
steamed broccoli and cauliflower
a glass of red - over a $100 yet they serve it in a tiny wine glass (you dont get a proper wine glass unless you order a bottle... errr....)
Bread - looks like the popover from BLT but no where near as good as that.

Food was ok afterall but service was SO BAD!

-Food took about 40 mins to come.
-The staff didnt know the ingredients in the salad.. said would get back to me but never did.
-Order a tomato salad with one waitress.. and 15 mins later another waiter came and asked me what did i order.. what took so long? so i just cancelled it.
-One staff actually looked like he was too exhausted and about to die in the middle of the restaurant.
-were being ignored a couple times.

Totally frustrated after dinner.. not gona go back.

The man behind Hakkasan opened Betty's in IFC quietly few weeks ago. As with all his previous restaurants, Betty's design and lighting is flawless and you can feel the vibe before you even enter the restaurant. As with all his previous restaurants, Betty's design and lighting is flawless and you can feel the vibe before you even enter the restaurant. The coral stone wall and the leather stitched sofa all makes it an elegant but casual venue.

Foodwise, the waitress describe it as french but i would call it european comfort food. There are about 6 appetizers and 10 mains on the menu and some dishes designed for sharing. We opted to share the Stuffed Calamari with chorizo venere black rice ($188) as the starter. The calamari has stuffed vegetable inside and combined with the chewy rice makes it an interesting and flavourful dish. For the main we orderd Duck Confit for Two ( $398), the skin is crispy but the meat is a bit dry and since it doesnt come with a sauce it seems bland for asian's palate.

Betty's is still in its fine tuning stage, the food will get better by the day. The service is perfect and even our food was not slow, the waitress kept apologizing to us. Betty's is worth going just to experience dining in a world class restaurant. It will surely raise the bar for local restaruants to follow. Unlike many local restaurant operators who are desperate to make a quick buck, Betty's is offering discount during its trial period. This is another first for the local dining scene, Alan really knows how to please his customers!
