接著是我點的芝士酒盜,切成條狀的軟芝士鋪好在碟上後再淋上酒盜,這個酒盜是用上了鱲魚來醃製,吃來鹹鹹香香的,配合香軟的芝士,味道十分不錯。若非因為第二天要工作的關係,叫上了一支清酒來伴這個芝士酒盜吃,相信會十分美味。

海膽刺身吃來新鮮好吃,海膽是完整的沒有溶化的跡象,入口帶著鮮味而沒有腥味。個人比較喜歡加點青瓜絲來吃,除了增加爽脆的口感外,還更能帶出海膽的鮮味。

我們還點了一份雜錦天婦羅,內裡有三隻蝦,兩件青椒,一件南瓜,一件茄子和一件菇。廚師的炸功不錯,墊底的紙沒有沾上太多油份,而且吃起來炸漿夠薄,而且也很脆,是個很不錯的天婦羅。

朋友在尖沙咀工作,工餘時最愛跟朋友來這裡飯聚,談天說地 ~ 我這是第一次來呢!環境不錯,空間感足夠,坐得很舒服。海藻沙律,很清新,很好吃! 各式刺身,十分新鮮,十分美味!魷魚刺身也是很不錯!凍豆腐,簡簡單單的豆味很豐富,佐以醬汁及蘿蔔茸來吃,我很喜歡!美味的和牛 鹽燒雞翼 ~ 非常惹味,非常好吃!池魚仔,很香脆很可愛,朋友連骨也吃下了!

We've been here about 2-3 times. Our last visit was more than a year ago. During our previous visits, we recalled that various fried food with batter were quite nice and that they had an interesting selection of sake available. The sashimi was normal but a bit pricey. This time we decided to focus on their cooked food.

We arrived at about 6:30~7:00 p.m. and the place was already becoming crowded. It tends to be quite popular most of the time.

The restaurant had about 10 tables for 4, 4 bar seats and a tatami area for larger parties (8 or more).

We were allocated a seat at the very end of the restaurant, which was good.

It's a drinking den:

It's a bit hard to pin Hoka Hoka down to any particular style (food-wise). The cooked food they provide was a mixed bag with interesting items like tempura fish cakes and fried eggplants. They also have sushi, sashimi, tempura, fried noodles and curry rice...etc.

However, I suppose the defining feature of Hoka Hoka is definitely the drinks. They have a very impressive drinks list which greatly expanded since my last visit. The list consisted of the following:

Draft Sapporo;
Umeshu, Whiskey, Chu-hi are available.
About 6 types of bottled beer;
2 types of Rice Sochu (Rare in Hong Kong);

7 types of Mugi Sochu (Wheat Sochu);
11 types of Imo ochu (Yam Sochu); and

66 different types of sake! (Believe it or not, I've counted those one by one.)


They have an excellent introduction of each sake, sochu and kosho 古酒 (literally old wine - aged). The introductions were in Chinese. Those were very detailed and very practical.


Sekitoba:

They have one of my favorite sochu, "赤兔馬" (Red rabbit horse: You'd know this if you've ever read the "Romance of the Three Kingdoms". It's the horse of Guan Yue. It could apparently run more than a thousand miles per day)! 720ml $400, gives you wings.


Most sochu had 720ml available. Good for a small party (2-4).


Food:

We based our orders essentially on the Osusume menu (recommended menu), which was in Chinese and in Japanese.

The tempura moriawase looked tempting ($90) seemed pretty good value but we didn't order it this time.

Squid mouth: $55 very good
炸墨魚咀: 香口,鬆化,惹味又不太油。推介!

Nice and crispy. Also very chewy! Another place that serves good squid mouth is "Mui Kee" at TST, a Hong Kong style diner. Recommended.

Buri Daikon ($75) and Mentaigo Yaki ($80):
鰤大根:魚有點實但大根入味【湖舟】最好。 焼明太子:有點乾。【元氣一杯】,【京笹】較好

Buri daikon basically meant a piece of buri fish stewed with turnip in a light bonito stock and some soy sauce (possibly a bit of mirin). The quality of the fish was just normal, neither particularly tough nor tender. The buri daikon provided at Koshu was much much better. Hachirin was also not bad.

However, the piece of turnip was good. Very sweet, flavourful and tender.

Meitaigo yaki: Average. Wasn't as flavourful as I'd like it to be. I think those served at Genkiippai and Kichi are better.

Smoked liver ($52):
煙豬肝: 煙味濃郁但太硬,份量亦小。【竹家】較好。

The quality of this was just average. I found the texture a bit too tough. However, the smoke taste was aromatic and a bit musky.The portion of the dish was much smaller than those provided at "Takeya". Not recommended.

Tokoroten (3 cups of vinegar) $48:
Tokoroten: ところてん (日漢字: 心太/瓊脂)基本上是海(澡)Jelly加醋。清爽。

Like chopped grass jelly in vinegar with shoyu base. Slightly similar with Mosugu (a type of seaweed).

My wife liked this a lot. An acquired taste.


We placed our order for Nasu gyoza but it took ages before it came.

I ordered a black beer called "Dios" (because of posters stuck all over the shop):

It tasted very much like Murphy's - or Xin Jiang beer with more chocolate coffe aftertaste - it's 5% strong.
Very interesting indeed!


We also ordered a Duck Nabe (hotpot) with wasabi ($68):
鴨肉鍋: 鴨肉好像不太新鮮。豆腐及大荵質素一般。"獻"杰但冇味。牙膏山葵亦沒有提味的作用。

This also arrived before the nasu gyoza.

Honestly, this was not good. It's like two/three slices of overnight duck dunked into a thick, gooey gravy without much taste. The toothpaste wasabi did not help the taste at all.

Not recommended.


Finally came the long awaited Nasu Gyoza:

Nasu gyoza ($65):
茄子餃子: 原來是兩塊茄子夾著豬肉再加炸漿。味道偏淡。不太油.(等了很久:樓面快但廚房有點慢)

Very interesting!


The taste is on the light side. I was very interested in what they meant by Nasu Gyoza (I was expecting it to be gyoza with eggplant fillings), it turns out to be two pieces of egg plant with some minced pork sandwiched between them and then fried with batter.


The taste was a bit on the light side. I would have preferred the pork to be marinated a bit more. The batter was crispy but not too oily. The egg plants tasted like - well, egg plants. Very interesting. Worth a try.

Service:

No complaints. Very efficient staff but the kitchen was a bit slow. Possibly due to the large amount of customers.

The place was very busy before 9:00 p.m. but was very quiet afterwards.

Conclusion:
The bill came down to HK$700 for two which I suppose is not too expensive considering that we've ordered quite a few drinks.

All in all, average food at reasonable price.

An authentic Izakaya at a pretty convenient location good for drinks.

Worth a try if you're around the area.

聽說這所日本餐廳很出名,前來試試後,感到極度失望。秋刀魚刺身: 失望之作,肉身已變白,還有點不新鮮的。海蝦天婦羅和野菜天婦羅: 上枱已軟霖霖,一點也不脆口,失望!牡丹蝦刺身:意想不到刺身上枱已是暖,本身看似新鮮的刺身,吃後竟是失望。豬肝炒9菜:豬肝又是不新鮮霖霖的,9菜煮得時間過久,老到吃不下,失望。松刺身:全部刺身也是平價貨,最貴的一件只是吞拿魚刺身,失望!

來過這店已經好幾次了, 店內裝潢十分有日本風味連貼在牆上的餐牌很多都是日文來的呢午餐都是以定食形式, 大部分都是有湯, 前菜, 漬物, 主茶為一個定食滑蛋雞扒飯比較偏濕, 湯汁味道較甜, 用來送飯吃不錯的 但吉烈雞扒被湯汁到浸淋了, 沒有香脆的口感, 有點失分另外兩款的吉烈豬扒定食, 外皮炸得酥脆而內裡又不會乾巴巴不論燒汁或咖哩汁都調得不錯, 兩種醬汁都跟豬扒能夠相輔相承天婦羅飯跟滑蛋飯有同一問題就是有點而過濕,但份量十足, 也是個飽肚好選擇雖然各樣定食未能令人拍案叫絕好吃, 但作為一個才$60-70的午餐其實質素和份量已經比起很多掛名日本食店來得要好起碼餐具上, 服務態度, 效率上已經合格有餘了

)may be its better with sake or beer. But it was overly salty. An acquired taste, which I haven’t acquired still.

燒牛舌 – this was very good,
1.It was thick so I had enough to chew, and it maintained the juices inside once it was cooked.
2.It was well grilled, the charred meat gives off fantastic aroma and juicy inside.
3.Generous portions too.

炸芝士年糕 – this was good too good. Because we were worried that the rice cake will be very thick which will make the dish very heavy, but the dish came out great. It was a thin layer of rice cake wrapping around the melting cheese. You can serve it with the seaweed and a little bit of salt that cuts the heaviness of the rice cake and the salt brings out the sweetness of the cheese.

盬燒鯖魚。以前小時候最愛吃的日式燒魚是西京燒銀鱈魚,因為肉質實在太滑了,始終小孩子都愛吃滑溜的魚肉,不過近年就愛吃鯖魚,雖然魚肉肉質不是很嫰滑那種,但它的味道是特別的,很容易讓人記住。這裡的燒鯖魚質素很高,魚油豐腴,魚皮烤成微脆,連平常不太愛吃魚的同學,都忍不住夾完又夾。

大蝦天婦羅。大蝦的脆漿雖然不算酥脆,但勝在不太油膩,而且夠熱,吃起上來是很香口,而且蝦肉彈牙新鮮,值得一試。

食物的水準跟我兩年前來沒下降,依然好吃,而且以居酒屋來說,價錢比較親民,難怪仍然有不少日本人前來晚餐,下一次再來想試下他們的壽司和串燒。

飯局的前一晚,已經開始緊張,因今晚的飯局將會和一個15年沒有出來食飯的朋友見面.時常覺得請朋友食飯不能太寒酸.起初朋友都唔比我請. 哎呀,以前讀書時,我沒有工作能力就由他請,但現在的我,出來工作,有能力就給我機會請客啦! 畢竟我們這麼多年無見,有能力可以請到警察哥哥食飯,是我的光榮,所以今晚"張單我負責吧!"

畢竟15年無見,很想在食飯時,有很多食物在枱上來拍一個照,但這間餐廳的職員真的態度麻麻,叫了同一個職員幾次幫我們影相,她只是講了三次轉頭,但都無了件事. 最後要埋單時,另一位職員才幫我們影相. 嘩,今晚這餐飯,加一服務費-$93.3,為何付了那麼貴的服務費,服務一下影張相也是那麼難的,真的難以費解,很忙嗎?完全不覺喎!

這裏晚市的服務比午市的好得多,侍應有笑容,亦樂意解釋日文菜單

晚市的wasabi是鮮磨的, 加分....

呢度d串燒同炸物好ok, 飲下酒, 吹下水....都係一個唔差既選擇...

刺身拚盤就唔推介, 散叫如秋刀魚就一流....下次試下叫其他先....

雖然間舖有d殘舊, 但算整潔... 價錢亦ok... 值得比個 "笑"...
