啲Carrot Soup真係滑得嚟,啖啖香甜入心肺🥕,d輕麗pesto味,一開場就攞到我個心。望落Foie Gras Terrine雖然貴少少,但係又真係失望,口感滑得出奇,個種微微的醋酸清新,但係我想要果啲鵝肝嘅濃郁就無喇😔。再黎個Seared Tuna,賣相好吸引啊,表面微煎,入口後感覺到魚肉嘅嫩滑,嗰陣薄薄的脂肪感,真係嘆為觀止🐟。特別係佢隔離嗰碟Charolais Beef Tartare,質感唔錯,加咗蛋黃後濕潤得嚟又黏黏地,有種新鮮嘅感覺,偏偏佢哋屋企人屋企味,啲薯條又香又脆,真係攞命。最後,Pistachio Panna Cotta,係奶凍界面面俱到,但配桑莓醬就欠啲火候🍮,而個Mini Chocolate Fondant就真係驚喜,朱古力同芝士竟然拍住擋,我喺呢一刻發覺,有時啲最意想不到嘅配搭就係最正。呢個食物旅程,滿足曬我呢個平民食客嘅胃,有啲甘,有啲酸,仲有陣陣嘅嚇喜,正!

Charolais Beef Tartare
牛肉他他是此店的招牌,也在午餐之列,沒有吝嗇地只放a la carte。跟吞拿魚一樣,牛肉的份量很多。滑溜溜的蛋黃為他他增加濕度和黏稠度。生牛肉不及煮過的肉味香濃,吃他他主要是為了它的口感。沒想到這個他他竟有意料之外。帶少少芫茜香和醋酸,特別之餘,更添清新。

配薯條。不愛幼身薯條的我竟然無法抗拒。炸得很香口,卻毫不油膩。薯香明顯,再加點paprika調味,一條接一條,實在停不了口。

Mini Chocolate Fondant
心太軟切開後沒有流出來的朱古力漿,也懶得拍照了。外層焗得微脆,外軟內濕潤。有趕地,我們都在朱古力漿裡吃到芝士味。當我滿心疑惑之際,看見友人同樣迷惘的表情,大家猜到對方心中的問號,實在好笑。明明跟一般朱古力漿無異,芝士香從何而來?不過,味道很夾,十分好吃。

雲尼拿雪糕溫度剛好,就在未溶和開始溶之間,配下面夠脆的餅碎,浸濕後仍然帶脆,口感有層次。清清的雪糕,跟濃稠的朱古力漿,成強烈對比,卻是最佳的配搭。人生亦然,有時候,看似水火不容,放在一起卻有意外的驚喜。

旁邊一抹朱古力醬是牛奶朱古力的淺啡色,未吃已想像很甜,它的低甜度反而帶來驚喜。朱古力有點榛子味,原粒榛子超脆,咀嚼下滲出悠長的堅果香,十分好吃。

首次吃這般嫩粉紅的Pigeon,因為慢煮所致, 第一口是真的有點吃不慣, 肉質軟滑, 但太軟滑又好像與這麼多年來吃的乳鴿大相逕庭, 外國人都喜歡把乳鴿烹調成這程度, 或許只是香港地對乳鴿的口感太根深蒂固. 而最有驚喜的是外表不討好及以紅酒醃到瘀紅色的菠蘿! 一口乳鴿、一口菠蘿, 味道又轉變了, 很有趣! 仔細留意, 這份是咸點共冶一爐的, 因碟中也有朱古力 crumble!

夏天菜式以水果入饌,令人更開懷大食,雖然沙甸魚我一般(因為小時候時常有罐頭沙甸魚=.=")。這個是紫洋蔥、梨沙律再配上新鮮沙甸魚,連埋魚一起品嚐,爽口既清新沙律中和魚膩感,原來味道一點也不差。

Dessert....I think I hv almost 2 of these when my girls are busy chit chatting lol the Nutella like cream taste like heaven when paired with nuts (I’m not sure if it’s Nutella or they make the hazelnut chocolate themselves but it feel like less sweet than the Nutella we usually hv?) chocolate larva cake is 🤤🤤👍🏻

We choose the wine pairing so we 5 ppl can share the wine, we are not very gd with wine so such sharing is just right, enough to get you a bit tipsy into that TGIF mood without getting you drunk 😵

About $550 per head, totally gd value 👍🏻

After we were being seated and trying to figure what to order, the server brought us some bread with butter and pork rillette. The texture of the bread is excellent, crispy on the surface, soft and slightly spongy within. As for the pork rillette, it is like a pulled pork meat ball, yet the juicy and rich pork flavor matches well with the bread.

It is not fishy at all, in fact the orange and capers can help to freshen up the taste. Luckily I have saved some bread, it tastes prefect with the tartare, excellent texture. The beef tartare is topped with an egg yolk and a niche of paprika, hence it is rather moisture and tender. Last is the duck confit croquette, the pulled duck meat is quite juicy and the duck fat is really appealing. The surface is crispy and I love the special sauce underneath to neutralize the heaviness.

Up next is a bigger starter, Stuffed Macaroni. It is actually some large shell pasta instead of macaroni and they filled it with duck meat and parmesan. To add more flavors to the dish, there are smoked duck breast, hazelnut and veal jus. Surprisingly all those flavors are well combined, I especially like that nutty flavor from the roasted hazelnuts. And as you can see the chef has added few pieces of truffle on the top, the light truffle taste surely did some magic to the dish and bring it to another level!

The Fillet of Smoked Sardine has served to us at the same time. I was a bit concerned about the fishy taste at first, however my concern is unnecessary. The sweet pear marmalade below the sardines help to clear the fishy taste, the sardine flavor is good to pair with a fruity taste. Again, this is another flavorful and rich texture dish!

One thing that I really like here are the presentation of each dishes, they are all FABULOUS AND GORGEOUS!!!!It is like an edible art piece, thus customers are not just satisfied with the taste but also the sight. Like the following Griddle-grilled Scallop, the green sauce with pearl colored scallop, orange tangerine and black caviar, delightful colors. The scallop is medium cooked, therefore the texture is soft and not dry at all. Dip the scallop into the green wasabi sauce, a hint of its unique spiciness can excite your tongue. This is absolutely enjoyable and incredible, I am surely coming back for this!

O-M-G!!! Look at this evil and juicy baby on the table! This Rossini Beef Fillet can definitely fulfill my craving for meat~~ The beef fillet is medium-rare cooked, which you are able to see that mouthwatering pinkish meat in the middle. They did a good job on the sealing, the beef is juicy and rather tender. It was topped with two of the most luxurious ingredients in the world, Foie Gras and Truffle. The pan-fried Foie Gras carries a juicy goose flavor, it is an insane combination with the beef. Besides the mashed potato as the side dish, there are croquettes on the side as well. Beef and potato are just meant for each other, this is a common sense that everyone knows.

After the main courses, we took a short break and the server brought us the dessert menu. It wasn’t Valentine’s Day, yet two desserts are both chocolate based lol. First is something classic and yummy, Republica Del Cacao 70% Dark Chocolate Fondant. Generally the chocolate fondants will be sweetness overload, nonetheless this is 70% dark chocolate based, it less sweet and carries a nice cocoa bittersweet taste. The opposite of black is white and the opposite of dark chocolate fondant will certainly be this Green Apple, White Chocolate Brownie. Two bite-sized brownies are ideal, as the white chocolate flavor tend to be sweeter. And something that helps to neutralize the sweetness, will be a scoop of the green apple sorbet. That ice cold and sour sorbet is like a magic touch to the dish, the refreshing taste just united all the rich flavors.

last but not least, the finale! the dessert! dark chocolate fondue paired with vanilla ice cream, hazelnuts and hazelnut sauce, classic winter dessert. the fondue cake was slightly overdone tho, would've been better if the chocolates were still running inside. but overall the taste was great!

the meal was fantastic overall. the food was delicious, ingredients were fresh, the presentation was beautiful and the ambience was great.

one thing to improve on, however, is the amount of wine...it wasn't the first time I've had wine pairing at winebeast but the amount of wine was very little compared to previous times...was even smaller in amount compared to wine tasting events, so of course it wasn't enough to pair for one whole dish.

Wine beast has a fabulous concept – a French bistro that sells wine at essentially retail price with interesting dishes at relatively reasonable prices. Their menu offers an everyday 4-course tasting menu with wine pairings for less than HKD600, a terrific value. It’s quite casual, with high ceilings and un-clothed table settings, directly next to their retail wine store. A great atmosphere for a casual date or for dinner with friends. Service is a bit try-hard (too many unnecessary explanations) but overall very accommodating and attentive.

The menu is varied and offers a HKD845 Tomahawk steak alongside substantial and reasonable (sub-HKD200) starters and mains. We started with a selection of “Frapas” which were exceedingly affordable (HKD 100 for 3):

A visually striking dish – four pieces of ravioli covered in a Parmesan foam and mushrooms, layered in a brown butter sauce. To say nothing of the butter (which I thought was fine, though my friend though that was too much itself) the foam itself is just a bomb of salt – I was expecting that parmesan umami blast, but everything was just dominated by the saltiness. The ravioli is stuffed with shredded beef, not the usual cheese + meat mixture, but's sensible given the heaviness of the brown butter/parmesan foam sauce. Should have been at least good but ended up being just edible.

I really wanted to love this dish – a squid ink and vegetable puree (according to the waitress) as the base to support grilled, sliced octopus, a runny fried egg, and a grilled rabbit rillettes garnish. I love every individual ingredient here, but again, the squid ink puree was just way too salty, and beyond the saltiness, was burdened by an un-placeable heaviness. I don’t think there was any cream, but was an assault on the senses. My friend couldn’t eat more than a bite, though I did finish most of it in the end.

This was probably the best dish on the night, and with such a generous portion, clearly designed to be shared. Two nicely textured (smooth but with some heft) crème brulees topped with chunky mango and a served with a scoop of homemade mango sorbet. Mango is very much my thing, and though simply constructed, the tang of the mango works really well with the creme brulee. 

Overall, it’s a great concept (a wine shop serving good food), a great venue, and an interesting menu at reasonable prices (was about 1000 for 2 including a bottle of White). It was disappointing on the day we went (perhaps because it was Dec 30th?) but I feel like the chefs that put together those dishes surely know how to extract subtler flavors from their ingredients. I’ll definitely try it again, but for now it can’t be rated more than just Okay.
