對摩洛哥的印象, 除了電影”Casablanca”及U2的”Fez-Being Born”這首歌外, Tagine的美味也令我難忘, 當然去Casablanca和Fez也是我想在不久旅行的地點呢!

Le Souk is a tiny restaurant with friendly staff and lovely decor.  Unlike most of the Chinese restaurant service, they gave us freedom to choose our table, to make ourselves as spacious and comfy as we like.  I can't comment on other dishes, but the food we ordered are very much like reheated pre-packed microwave food.  The frozen prawns with loads of frozen green peas, some broccoli, the supermarket quality pita bread and the hummus (not house made I guess).  I wondered if they have a proper k

I can't comment on other dishes, but the food we ordered are very much like reheated pre-packed microwave food.  The frozen prawns with loads of frozen green peas
, some broccoli, the supermarket quality pita bread and the hummus (not house made I guess).  I wondered if they have a proper kitchen/chef behind the back doors.  We were indeed unhappy with what we saw, no need to mention those ingredients were unable to excite our taste buds.  

Luckily, the drinks adorned the evening, and they even handed 2 glasses of bubbling wines to us for free after we asked for the bill (don't think they did so because we're not pleased by their food, in fact we didn't say a word about that at all). 

They tried to convenience us to order more but we decided to try out somewhere else. Probably won't give it a second chance.

1)迎賓小食「Pickled Olives 醃橄欖」:無核,味道濃,偏鹹帶酸。應該喺有用橄欖油、洋蔥、洋芫荽/番茜、檸檬汁、紅辣椒碎(唔辣)及香料醃製。雖本人不太喜歡橄欖,朋友話味道ok所以也品嚐了。



2)頭盤「Egyptian Mezze Platter 埃及什錦小食拼盤」 ($198):建議2-3人分享,雖然偏貴,不過可以一次品嚐多種摩洛哥/利比亞等異地小食滿足貪心既我。包括:


- Sahara Bread 彼特餅:兩塊,一塊小麥粉製,一塊白面粉製,暖暖哋。


- Hummus 鷹嘴豆泥:順滑,細膩帶啲沙沙既口感,爽口有營養。不過個人比較喜歡加多啲檸檬汁調味既hummus。


- 👍🏼Lamb Kofta 烤羊肉餅:非常香口,濃郁,香料繽紛,層次豐富。羊肉唔會太過碎、太過「蘇」或者太過老,如果可以配上乳酪醬就更好啦。


- Baba ghanoush 茄子沾醬:凍上,主角喺軟膩既茄子泥,再有爽脆既紫洋蔥。味道新鮮特別。


- Zaalouk 茄子番茄沾醬:凍上,口感同上差不多,不過加入蕃茄令味道酸啲更清新。香料眾多,有風味。


- Falafel 炸蔬菜豆泥餅:唔油,整成餅形狀而唔係球型,令口感較挺不過偏乾。豐富既不同香料,突出既洋蔥、番茜、蒜頭香料等。


- Feta Cheese 希臘山羊芝士:濃郁咸香,切成小塊既芝士,口味較重。


- Moroccan Cigars 山羊芝士春捲:個人覺得似土耳其 Sigara Boregi。炸得脆,裡面放滿香濃creamy既芝士。熱辣辣,加咗分。建議放多啲薄荷或香料增添層次,大家食嚟個既時侯可以考慮沾拼盤入面既沾醬。但喺個人認為做成細長形會無咁膩,同令口感更美味。


- Olives 醃青橄欖:可惜同歡迎小食重複。


- Mixed greens 什錦沙律:拼盤中間有啲新鮮既蔬菜加黑醋醬,份量不多(我哋鍾意食菜)。



3)👍🏼主菜「Lamb Tagine 塔吉鍋炖羊」 ($168):入面有五塊以上香軟嘅羊肉(無骨啱晒我啲懶人)、薯塊、胡蘿蔔,並以青橄欖、杏仁佐味。材料全部喺個特色Tagine土鍋炖到軟淋淋,羊肉香汁鎖住曬,好滋味。另外仲加上白芝麻、碎番茜、杏脯及棗干裝飾吊味。啱啱上檯時仲有啲咋咋聲咁,熱辣辣香氣十足。嚟道菜唔會話好似咖哩咁有好重既香料,香嫩既羊肉及肉汁喺重點,應該可以滿足大多數人既口味。



4)主菜配菜「Couscous 北非小米」 ($40):乾爽鬆軟,細粒均勻,會有些少提子乾同埋番茜碎做配料/裝飾。Couscous呢道「小米」用嚟餸Tagine很好,吸晒啲肉汁好可口。不過有啲人就會覺得太為清淡啦。



飲品方面由於我哋唔太飲酒就無特別叫。我哋話要水,工作人員都好好,俾咗我哋一人一杯清水(常溫,有片檸檬)。



服務
餐廳工作人員態度友好,會主動幫忙推薦或介紹菜式,需要英文溝通。佢哋都會時常攞走空碟,我哋食完前菜又會幫我地換碟。

需要改善:本身我哋配菜其實係叫Saffron Rice,不過嚟咗Couscous。唔排除有溝通錯誤,我哋OK都照食~味道不錯喺美麗的誤會。另外燈光較為昏暗,所以添水可能需要提醒吓。最後就喺建議提供叫咗有中東包菜式嘅客人濕毛巾抹手,用餐更衛生。

We had a wonderful Middle Eastern dining experience last evening with out-of-town friends.  Two of us are vegetarians (I'm one of them).   Many vegetarian choices and as expected, even more meat dishes.  I can only speak for the vegetarian dishes which I thought were absolutely delicious.  Also the service was very good and friendly.  We thought it was good value and good atmosphere and lots of nice flavors.   We will definitely be going back!

平時吃的coucous都很乾身,我不太愛。Le Souk這個較濕潤,配上蕃茄菜湯來吃,味道更出色。

羊髀烤得外脆內juicy,肉質嫩滑。羊味濃郁而不羶,驚喜之作。

雖然好一陣子没來,食物水準、價錢還是依舊。當苦惱緊$200-300吃什麼好時,Le Souk絕對是個好選擇。值得推介,I will be back!

My 2 friends and I decided to have dinner here on a Sunday evening recently. After enjoying a good meal, we were waiting for the bill to arrive when out of nowhere this wine glass shatters into our table (our table was wedged right beside the bar counter) throwing glass fragments everywhere. My 2 friends and I decided to have dinner here on a Sunday evening recently. The waiter arrived and proceeded to clean our table. I asked him whether we can get a discount because what happened was really dangerous and we could've been hurt. He gave the slightest smirk and left, and returned with a 15% discount – just slightly more than the 10% service charge on our bill.

Never coming back here again after that. The food was good but carelessness and rudeness of the staff and health danger not worth it. 
Other Info. : The lamb tagine was good but the hummus was bland.

It's a bit pricey, though not excessively, considering the neighbourhood. The two of us shared mixed shish kebab (lamb and chicken) and Moroccan style paella. The paella could have had more rice, but it was seasoned well and had a lot of seafood in it. Shish kebab was equally tasty, and seemed like good quality meat. The atmosphere was good enough - but a bit too dark maybe and a bit too loud.

Starter of roast aubergine mix was a lot better than the houmous.  Roasted fig salad was a little too sweet and would benefit from more cheese to balance the taste. Chicken tagine was not as I had in Morocco - the sauce was a lot thicker and the chicken a lot fewer in pieces, no plums in sight nor apricot.  Taste was OK, though nothing strikingly good.  The best part of the meal was the pita bread, seems freshly baked and very hot,  soft texture and great flavour.  it was so good we asked for mo
