於雜誌看過他的名字, 走到海港卻有DD失望。香港真係無乜時間好似某高大型男去慢慢細味生活, 只能按傳媒思路去判斷味道, 小弟亦難逃一試, 買左個delice red同牛角, 牛角非常酥脆鬆化, , 我特意帶埋法國朋友去試, 佢都覺得麻麻, 下次如果再有機會應該都係買牛角包算。 我喜歡的是這裡的模式, 問題是這商場的客路不太適合, 引伸的問題很明顯就是衛生吧: 香港大部份麵包店都有膠門開關以確保衛生, 但這裡很開放, 我見倒好多人徒手囉起個麵包聞下, 又擺翻落去… 如果老細改封閉式又無左原有特色, 我見倒都覺可惜。

我特意帶埋法國朋友去試, 佢都覺得麻麻, 下次如果再有機會應該都係買牛角包算。
我喜歡的是這裡的模式, 問題是這商場的客路不太適合, 引伸的問題很明顯就是衛生吧: 香港大部份麵包店都有膠門開關以確保衛生, 但這裡很開放, 我見倒好多人徒手囉起個麵包聞下, 又擺翻落去… 如果老細改封閉式又無左原有特色, 我見倒都覺可惜。

朋友說肚子餓,要買東西吃,碰巧路過馳名的Eric Kayser,便買一件三文魚薄餅($42)補充體力。付款時,收銀員會問我們是否需要翻熱,我們的回答當然是正面啦!約3分鐘後,翻熱完成,透過紙袋摸到薄餅暖暖的。薄餅長度約20厘米,上面鋪滿芝士碎和已烤熟的三文魚,但加熱後芝士碎未能呈現半溶化的效果,它們仍是硬身的一粒粒。一入口,三文魚香脆,略帶鮮甜味但不鹹,但稍為乾了。薄餅不算太硬身,亦不鬆軟,但沒有麵包的香氣。無論如何,我們不感到它是坊間所說的高質素麵包。

復活節期間,約咗個好耐無見面嘅中學同學食晏。先去一風堂食拉麵,拉麵過後,又是甜點時間。見有人讚eric kayser嘅éclair, 於是就買咗2條,坐喺海運度食。揀咗pistachio & chocolate。先試chocolate, 外皮軟軟,不會過厚。朱味真係好濃,而且餡料非常之多。每一口都嚐到濃濃同香滑嘅朱古力醬。雖然有好多朱古力醬,但一點也不會太甜,甜度恰到好處。然後到pistachio, 比朱古力遜色。可能因為先食濃味嘅朱古力,所以令開心果味唔夠出,唔夠濃。但中間嘅開心果醬份量也很多,打得也很幼滑,只是開心果味不夠濃郁。

好友約食晚飯,叫我選擇油尖旺區,我第一時間想到位於佐敦的 <遙>! 不過,最近收到 <遙> 老闆娘的 sms ,她要去旅行! 所以,第二選擇找來位於尖沙咀海港城海運大廈的 <Maison Eric Kayser>!由於我提早一日 book 枱,( 留意:餐廳留枱只有 10 分鐘 ) 女侍應安排了一張靠著落地玻璃給我們! 對住無敵海景,真驚喜! 望向 ICC ,不斷有蛇圖案走來走去,好像活靈活現的靈蛇! 還有梅花圖案及鯉魚圖案!餐廳方面特意把靠著落地玻璃的部分射燈關掉,營造浪漫氣氛! 對住無敵海景,真驚喜!
望向 ICC ,不斷有蛇圖案走來走去,好像活靈活現的靈蛇!
還有梅花圖案及鯉魚圖案!餐廳方面特意把靠著落地玻璃的部分射燈關掉,營造浪漫氣氛!

幸運地,我們這餐桌對正落地玻璃,發現我後面靠牆的餐桌,靠牆的梳化卻被牆阻擋,至於,朋友後面的餐桌,完全被牆阻擋全景,我們兩位都可以清楚望到醉人的夜景!

試了幾間要買排隊買的牛角包, 發現不用排隊的 Maison Eric Kayer 最好香而不"漏", 油而不膩, 外脆內軟, 質感鬆化吃下去又不覺油好味到一次可K.O. 幾個éclair 一向不是我會吃的東西, 因為那餅底很模凌兩可, 不是酥餅又似似地puff 總之就是一條極不新鮮又塗了醬的半乾條狀物這裡的 éclair 讓我知道它不過是一條極易入囗, 可以在30秒內 K.O. 且不夠喉的美味小吃裡面cream 全滿, 有點咬口和鬆軟的外層極match. 只是稍有不足就是 chocolate 不夠 chocolate 味, 但作為小吃可以接受另外橄欖包勁香, 質感是厚實鬆較的意大利包, 買回去夾煙三文就完美了...

而Eric Kayser會在每個地區中,推出一款獨有的新口味,香港店的就是香蔥雞肉味。把以香蔥醃好的雞肉加入麵糰內一起搓及焗製,焗出來的麵包帶著綠色點點,不說的話,起初以為是蒜蔥包。麵包吃起來,的確帶有蔥味及雞肉味,也挺特別。

Financier法式杏仁蛋糕有四款味道,Original原味、Chocolate朱古力、Cherry & Pistachio車厘子開心果及Raspberry紅桑莓,每款都是$28。杏仁蛋糕賣相跟在法國吃的很不同,較像鬆餅,很特別。而質感是偏濕,但朱古力味比紅桑莓的好,濕潤相對較低,兩者亦比開心果味道的好,中心不會濕腍至爛。朱古力味道不太甜,味道不差。除了正常版的杏仁蛋糕,還有Mini Financier,迷你法式杏仁蛋糕,口感相對較好,外層輕微帶脆,質感不太死實,濕潤度較好。

於餅店另一邊是餐廳部份,地方很大,落地玻璃窗的設計,令自然光可投射進餐廳內,感覺更加舒適。這裡供應的食物暫時不多,但也有沙律、三文治及意粉等,這天點了餐牌上供應的三款甜品,每款價錢都是$48。先是Lemon Tart,檸檬撻,檸檬餡料較為挺實,質感不太滑溜,感覺像吃十分濃稠的慕絲,口感非個人喜愛。雖然如此,餡料挺酸,酸味自然,味道是不錯。

另外的Chocolate “Mi-Cuit”,流心朱古力蛋糕,$48,一小件朱古力蛋糕,熱呼呼的,蛋糕中心裂開漏出朱古力漿,貿感濃稠,蛋糕質感濕潤,可可味濃郁,味道不會很甜,整體雖然沒有預期中的流心效果,而較像軟心朱古力蛋糕,但這個蛋糕很好吃。

到十二月尾,餅店內也開始供應牛角酥及朱古力酥,第一次吃的Croissant,牛角酥,$14,金黃色的賣相看似不錯,但老實說,質感未如理想,牛油味道不濃烈,外層又不酥脆,內裡質感軟腍,口感令人有點失望。但再次嘗試,這次的牛油味道不算很香,但吃著帶微微酥脆,口感雖然可以造得更好,但已經改善很多,如$14一件的話,也可試的。

還有Strawberry & Chocolate Éclair,$30,分別吃了士多啤梨及朱古力味,泡芙質感比之前吃過的好,至少帶點鬆脆,不會很軟腍,但口感可以造得更好。而泡芙內裡注滿忌廉,質感濃稠帶實,士多啤梨味道甜中帶著微酸,朱古力味濃郁,甜度比黑朱古力軟蛋糕低。另外,還有開心果、椰子及咖啡味道可選。

麵包籃: 6分, 先來的麵包籃, 本來還抱有不少的期望, 但就換來大家的失望. 麵包竟然不是熱的, 以一家做麵包為主線的店子來講, 奇怪. 特別是隔壁就是麵包店, 要求店子送來一籃熱的麵包, 其實不過份吧.

Season Tomatoes, Buffalo Mozzarella with Pesto served with Olive Ciabatta 時令法國番茄配水牛芝士, 松子仁香草醬 $98: 7分, 頭盤方面, 先來的是時令法國番茄配水牛芝士, 番茄是幾鮮甜的, 而水牛芝士的芝士味也算幾香濃. 兩者的配搭, 是幾清新的. 特別之處是加入了松子仁香草醬, 豐富了味道.

Grilled (10 oz.) U.S. Rib Eye Steak & French Fries with Bearnaise Sauce 燒美國(10安士)肉眼扒配法式炸薯條, 賓尼士醬汁 $288: 7分, 另外一道主菜就是燒美國肉眼扒, 要了medium, 火候控制還算幾好, 起碼不會燒得太老. 肉味不算太濃, 不過點上賓尼士醬汁同吃就是幾惹味的. 法式炸薯條反而是焦點, 剛剛炸好的, 熱辣辣, 相當香脆, 是令人忍不住吃完一條又一條呢.

來到這裡, 大家也先行埋單, 連T兄的啤酒, 每人是$164. 當然, 故事不會就此結束. 我們就拿著這張收據, 到旁邊的麵包店買甜點, 憑這張收據, 就能享有九折優惠. 但買完甜點之後, 大家拿回餐廳那邊吃也沒有問題. 雖然有點取巧, 但這個辦法就讓我們能夠有折之餘也能舒適地享用店子的甜點.

在麵包店這邊吃了五款甜點, 就要每人$21, 連同餐廳內的消費, 大家結算是每人$185, 能夠一次過吃到那麼多款菜色及甜點, 還是合理的價位. 當然, 如果在麵包店那邊單點甜點, 價位就是偏貴. 是晚在餐廳那邊吃的菜色, 大部份水準都是一般, 但又不會太令人失望. 至於甜點方面, 整體是水準之上, 如果撞正剛剛出爐的話, 那就更加不要錯過呢. 服務方面, 店員態度還算不俗, 而外籍經過起初對我們這班不聽拍照的客人是不太禮貌, 到了差不多尾聲的時候, 他忍不住問我們拍照的目地, 我也如實回答, 他反而送了幾包甜點給我們, 不過我就沒有吃了, 留來給朋友們分吃.

或許這裡的鹹食不算太出色, 但來吃吃甜點, 在這個寫意的環境下跟朋友們相聚, 這裡還算是區內一個不俗的選擇.

晚上的拉麵試食會上,與食友S談及此店,她曾吃過此店的 financier,內裏是流心的,應是未焗熟,去函詢問,沒有得到回覆,我絕不懷疑大師的手藝,唯是否每天的出品都由大師監督、檢視,還是交由一眾小廝打理?

我誠心希望,只是一時睇漏眼。

Called in here for dinner and was very pleasantly surprised. As it was attached to a bakery I thought the food served in the restaurant would be casual food based on bakery items, but not at all!

I choose the Salmon tartar and what was presented was a delight to look at it and tasted delicious. It was lightly dressed with a delicate dressing that didn't distract from the smoked salmon flavour, simply augmented it. For main I choose the rack of lamb and was pleasantly surprised when asked how I wanted my lamb cooked, I wasn't expecting that level of detail ! And when it came it was cooked perfectly, just a little red just as requested. The restaurant manager who served us told me it was Australian lamb, succulent and delicious with mustard infused mash potatoes. Being a bit of a vegetable freak I would have preferred a few more vegetables on my plate but that's me!

Given that I had previously had the Lemon Tart from the bakery (come on that must be the best Lemon Tart in Hong Kong!!!) I opted for the Apple Tart. Not much to say about that, it was good, nothing extraordinary but good.

My colleague had the Mushroom Soup and the Risotto and complimented on both. We indulged in a fairly expensive bottle of wine (Fleurie 2009), so our total bill was somewhat inflated, but the cost for the food, and that quality of food, seemed to me to be very good value.

I also went back with a bag of bread from the bakery at the end of the evening .... couldn't resist! (Try the orange bread!)

貴為麵包大師的eric kayser, 做麵包有他的一套理論和堅持, 善將麵糰塑落出不同口味與造型, 賦予不少生命力。 所用的都是自家培植的天然酵母, 再經過長時間的發酵, 效果跟速成的乾酵母迥然不同, 散發出誘人的芳香, 沒古怪的酒精酸味, 切實緊緻的口感, 可見他那份執著, 那份熱誠, 也令人吃得份外安心。 而店家為了讓客人分享這份美味, 也特意設試食, 難得麵包沒切得太細碎, 還是會吃出真味, 真細心啊!

很欣賞這家的獨特意念, 大路的款式不少, 但不難發現一些力求創新的配搭, 如薑黃果仁包被染成耀目的芥末黃色, 飄來一陣香料味道, 挺心動的, 但還是被白切雞意大利包($20)所吸引過去。 這包一向都只以原味示人, 或是混入些橄欖碎, 想不到白切雞這典型的中國菜式竟可跟麵包拉在一起。 外表還是見慣的長形, 表層呈一片焦黃色, 外皮偏扎實卻帶有韌性, 愈嚼愈香, 包心綿密雪白, 夾雜香葱和雞肉, 咸中多份鮮味, 滿咀油香, 細看下氣孔不一, 但沒影響細緻濕潤的口感, 軟軟的卻充滿彈力, 不用多塗東西已夠美味, 完全表現了中西揉合的精妙之處。

見很久沒嚐過madeleine($12), 見成品挺飽滿高身, 發得鬆軟的樣子 又忍不住買了一個。 貝殼的紋路很清晰, 底面都烘至迷人的金黃色, 從別的角度去看, 又會像個金元寶, 十分可愛。 蛋糕厚厚的, 咬起來更富咬感, 組織綿密, 蛋味較淡, 檸檬味還可嚐出來, 未如期待般的濕潤香甜, 乾乾的, 牛油味可以再濃一點, 只能當作還了心願好了。

原個的大麵包固然吸引, 但現見所見有不少種類的迷你包, 個子精巧, 倒可多試幾款。 無花果麵包($10)拿上手較重身, 無花果乾佈滿包面以至包身, 外皮不是脆口的一種, 反而帶點煙韌, 要費點牙力才能咬開, 裡頭的組織很軟, 不會死實無力, 用手輕按還是會彈回來。 糖粉不高, 能吃出原有的麵粉和麥香, 無花果乾沒切得過細塊, 容易吃出來, 清甜有營。

眼見近門口放了一整盤新鮮出爐的牛角酥($14), 牛油香不斷在空氣中飄散, 真能抗拒這邪惡的誘惑。 造型上跟傳統的沒兩樣, 頭尾兩後都捏得尖細, 中間則鬆發起來。 酥皮的層次細緻且完整, 一層接著一層, 緊密地排列著, 輕咬一口, 已感受到動人的美味。
這款包的油份難免會較重手, 還好沒油得涸喉, 是接受得來的。 外層鬆脆富濃厚的牛油香, 咸香有致, 不會空洞得像有一陣風的感覺, 脆中多份軟熟, 邊吃也未掉下太多的碎屑。

迷你芝士包($10)一副渾圓的模樣, 整個表面, 甚至底部都被重重芝士所覆蓋, 作為芝士迷的我, 不心動才怪呢! 表皮仍是歐式的少油硬實, 韌度較高, 芝士的咸香跟麥粉香混合巧妙, 雪白的包心入口輕軟, 帶微微的甜味, 驚見混了不少的芝士粒, 綿滑重奶酪香, 還嚐出點點羶味, 而包面和底層的芝士經高溫烘焗後, 都成了脆層, 甘香味濃, 十分討人歡喜。

還記得初期開業不久的時侯, 只供應原味牛角酥, 其後包款和藏包量都陸續增多, 也愈趨震撼。 杏仁牛角酥($18)是甜味的代表, 當然不只是表面混加幾塊杏仁片便成, 表層塗滿厚厚的杏仁醬, 經焗後, 甜香都被吸收至包身, 跟牛油香成了最佳的伙伴。 論外形來說, 扁塌塌的不易吸引人, 但實有它的魅力。 鬆脆度未及咸味版本, 入口較實在, 表皮有幾分像鮮奶球, 鬆厚甜美, 裡外都被豐富的杏仁餡包圍, 杏仁味實不太明顯, 反而有陣run酒的味道, 甜度較高, 始終易膩, 還是不易獨享, 滋嚐半個已足夠。

見數天後要同朋友家聚會, 甜點一定少不得, 心想這袋迷你法式杏仁蛋糕($48)該是不錯的選擇, 反正他們一直想試包餅的水準。 每包約15粒, 分別是開心果車厘子、朱古力和原味, 相比單買要$10/粒, 包裝真的划算得多。 青綠色的開心果口味最搶眼, 一度被誤認是綠茶味, 蛋糕組織細密, 像是杏仁粉的微細粒子所營造的, 鬆軟很夠潤澤, 透出香濃的牛油和蛋香, 只是車厘子味略為人工, 有點蓋過原有的蛋香, 未算太受大家歡迎。 反觀朱古力味, 該是最穩當, 麵粉跟可可香交錯, 細軟, 樸實不花巧, 可可粒呈半溶的狀態下份外甜美。
而基本的原味表現不俗, 軟軟的偏又帶點鬆化, 沙沙的感覺真妙, 也最能吃出蛋香。 聞說還有粉色的紅莓味, 下次路過看到的話或會買來試試。

餅面上塗了一層朱古力醬, 冷凍後仍然軟滑, 對上一次在arome bakery所嚐的外皮有點乾硬, 內餡偏少又不夠幼滑, 多少也會生了陰影。 而這次的皮層香軟不過厚, 一點也不乾, 帶點鬆化, 細咬一口已見密密的朱古力醬, 沒半點空洞。 夾心香濃, 帶微微的苦味, 就如truffle般黏稠甘醇, 就連我這甜魔也差點兒要高呼起來, 完全被動容, 吃罷餘韻仍停留在舌尖上, 真令人回味。

法式小泡芙($22)的樣子甚得人歡心, 像花兒般清麗, 且帶著幼細的紋路, 黏上白色的雪糖粒, 入口不感死實, 反而很鬆很綿, 富濃切實的蛋香, 來得不造作, 像在吃蛋球的感覺, 但相對輕身和柔軟, 不會過份濕實。 突然想起早前在半山的126 grammes也嚐過同樣甜美, 這家的甜度和濕度都較前者高, 但小小的個子確是閒來不錯的甜選,
輕盈沒過重的負擔。

真高興能遇上這家優質的法式麵包店, 更興奮的竟是就腳得過份, 好讓我不時也能一訪, 再次感受到純樸的麵包香, 那誘人的美味, 要知道能令我有這麼大的期盼, 真不是有太多例子。 或許會找天一訪旁邊的餐廳, 真正坐下來慢慢細嚐, 閒上個多小時。

星期日七點的晚飯時間 店面還是人頭湧湧中上價位 這樣一個小小的蛋糕已賣$28味道OK 可是覺得不太值餡料較多但份量不大的麵包 賣接近$50太貴了這個芝士包值得一推 $10一個雖然份量不大 但是芝士味甚濃內裡塞了不少芝士粒煙肉意大利包$20味道不怎樣眼看份量適中 但吃起來飽到不得了這裡的包似乎都是偏硬且密度高也許不對我口味吧 沒有覺得很好吃即使是那個芝士包吃着也會覺得如果麵包不是這種質地就更好了不過麵包香氣逼人 放在房間一晚 整晚都聞到麵包香很誘人服務員態度友善老板更賣力親自推介舉手投足都能體現他對麵包的熱情好像每一個麵包都出的兒子

麵包籃

身為麵包大師所開的店子,一個簡簡單單的餐前麵包想必也應有點過人之處吧....籃內有的是切成一小片的不同種類法包以及小麥包。不少的包中是藏着少許的合桃果仁粒以及檸檬皮及肉,給人一種很健康清爽的食味,確是有點心思。不過最大的缺失的便是拿上手時已發覺包是冷冰冰的
。不是新鮮出爐熱食的麵包,很老實講,再好吃亦是有個譜....

黑松露泡沬奶油野菌湯

不得不一讚的是松露菌的香與味是十分的突出;湯的texture是很夠creamy;後加置頂的泡沬很輕盈幼滑,將之與湯混和一起隨即令湯的香滑程度提昇了一倍也不止,一向愛喝湯的太座亦不禁直豎拇指。但很可惜的,缺點跟之前喝的湯一模一樣,無論是碟子與湯本身都只是微暖差不多至全冷的,不然的話香氣及味道可能會更進一步....

拿破崙螺絲粉

身為兒童餐的主食,這裡提供的算是較健康的選擇。茄醬是十分足料有充足的茄香,材料大多是素菜如紅洋葱,黃及青椒,fusilli亦頗為有咬口的,不過小友對此當然未曉得欣賞,他只知沒有肉的存在就是不好吃的了
,最後結果是吃剩了不少,要由兩口子去執手尾....

燒焗法國春雞配菠菜苗伴燒肉汁

這是太太吃的主菜。自己不便與她爭食,故只試了一點點雞肉....發現肉真的頗嫩滑而且醃得夠味,就算不用那gravy sauce就只光食那肉亦覺不錯....

辣椒蒜香意大利粉伴茄醬

致命傷是意粉不夠al dente,老實說基本上可能自己在家裡弄也有信心做得比這兒好。不過那個茄汁醬伴麵包碎倒是甜酸有度實是值得一讚,再加上蒜瓣粒及大量辣椒碎散發出來的味道卻是令整碟東西吃起來更覺惹味....

檸檬撻朱古力咖啡批

萬料不到這裡的甜品是蠻有水平的
---- 檸檬撻的件頭是比平常外面甜品店吃到的大了不止一倍,而滋味更是勝了不止一籌,面層的檸檬慕絲是幼滑細膩如絲絹,酸度調得甚恰巧且能嚐到檸檬的清香。刨碎的檸檬皮滲與慕絲其中令風味是更上一層樓;底層的撻皮軟硬及甜度皆適中,讓人食得過癮...

至於那批的朱古力慕絲苦味甚是恰如其份之外質感也頗軟滑;相反應存的咖啡味可能是因置頂的朱古力太搶風頭而弄得味道不甚明顯。整體來講水準是不錯的,唯一的缺點(這可能大家不會認同),便是吃完一整件感覺是超膩....

在麵包大師的店子,不來點精緻包點好像是有點過不了去吧。走到旁邊的bakery shop,先買一小件financier試一下,甜度是十分的重,糕身帶微濕潤而夠軟綿輕盈,的確是有水平;吃得興起,再來一個經典法式牛角包,可能是嚐不到剛出爐的吧,牛油香濃度以及本應flaky的質感實在是不太感受得到....

聽說大師在香港的新攪作是一個本土風味甚重的"白切雞包",好像頗過癮的,有機會倒是要試一趟....

Their bakery has a beautiful selection of breads and pastries- I really recommend their almond croissants, and their mini monge bread- it's nutty, crusty and savoury with a wonderful fluffy but substantially chewy inside. However, I've been to the restaurant twice now and either they've got low standards they intend to keep or they need more time to adjust. First visit: ordered the roasted chicken w/ spinach while my mom ordered their roasted vegetable penne. Both dishes were unbelievably salty, to the point where the inside of my mouth was throbbing. The chicken felt like I was eating a hunk of prosciutto carved into the shape of a chicken. The sauce of the penne tasted like acidic tomatoes and again lots of salt... and that was all. The tarts were just alright, but is it just me or is it really difficult to find a tart anywhere in Hong Kong that has a proper crunchy crust??? Maison Kayser is sadly not the place.

Second visit: my mom ordered their carbonara and I ordered the barramundi. This was truly embarrassing. The carbonara was just OK, the bacon was a little on the sweet side which made the dish taste a little bit like a kid's meal on an airplane. The barramundi was virtually inedible- it was bland and slimy, and smelled of that off-putting freshwater fish stink that just filled my sinuses with every bite. The salami salad I had as a starter also smelled very 'porky'- not in the rich, appetizing sense but more like the smell of greasy, room-temperature pork which overpowered the whole salad.

Lastly, what I was the most disappointed about was the way they treated their breads that came in the bread basket. If Kayser is best known for his breads, shouldn't the breads served at the restaurant be warmed/served properly? I might be wrong, but some of the bread felt warm but faintly dry but with no browning you get from toasting... maybe they microwaved it?? Which really throws off the taste of good-quality breads like those made by Kayser.

To summarize, unless something about the restaurant changes I really would recommend that you just stick to the bakery. I'm surprised to find that a restaurant that's supposed to be knowledgeable on how its dishes taste in its authentic cuisines serves food that tastes like something out of a Cantonese food court, titled something like 'Western-style ____ (insert dish name here)'. A real shame! The restaurant is SO NOT worth the price!

A friend suggested this restaurant as it was on the top ten lists of openrice. It was her birthday so I went along with the suggestion and we booked a table for 7: 30 p.m. It was a Friday night yet the restaurant was not crowded at all. It was at most 50% full at all times. I didn’t take a picture of the menu or set menu. Basically, for a set dinner which was HK$2xx to HK$3xx with of 10% service charge, you were given a salad/soup, a main, a dessert and a drink.

Seeing the prices, I expected a certain standard for the food quality. I have to say, I was a bit disappointed.

Given that both of us weren’t very hungry, we decided to order one set dinner and one dish from the a la carte menu.

First up was the bread basket and the soup.

The bread was one of the most stunning piece of the whole meal. There was a type of bread that tasted like indian curry ( the orangey one in the picture) which I later discovered to be in fact cumin flavored. There were also other varieties in the bread basket too but I don’t really recall how they tasted like as frankly, they didn’t have much of a taste.

The soup was a creamy truffle mushroom soup. I would have preferred the french onion soup which was on the a la carte menu given it was a French restaurant. The truffle soup was a bit disappointing. It was just too creamy. I was literally smacking my lips and frowning after a spoonful, feeling a bit disgusted by the amount of cream they placed inside it. I have tasted better ( Liberty Exchange).

Next up were the mains: grilled prawns on garden vegetable rice with tomato salsa and truffle risotto with mushrooms.

The grilled prawns were pretty good. Great smell and texture. The tomato salsa was pretty good, a tinge of sourness. The vegetable rice was a complete disaster. It seemed to be basically white rice mixed with vegetables with a small amount of cheese dumped on top and baked for half a minute. Tasteless. I actually asked the waiter for some more tomato salsa sauce so that I could finish it ( the first time after I asked for more ‘sauce’, the waitress came back quoting that the chef said that there was no sauce as it was baked with cheese. I then specifically requested for tomato salsa and was finally given a small bowl of watery tomatoes which kind of ruined my previous favorable impression of the salsa).

The risotto was a bit below average. Truffle sauce was sprinkled on top (sprinkled as in a 10 cent coin size) yet the rice didn’t have much taste. Again, I have tasted better at other restaurants (even Amaroni’s is better).

Finally came the dessert. We were given a choice of lemon tart or pistachio tart/cake. We decided on a lemon tart which was actually not too bad despite the fact that I was never really fond of lemon tarts. It had a strong lemony flavor and a tad too sweet but acceptable.

There was also something I did not like with the décor. I was sitting underneath a ceiling lamp which was glaring into my eyes. I felt like I was under a spotlight the entire time as the rest of the restaurant was pretty dim.

The dinner was frankly not worth the price paid.

This further confirms the fact that when a brand name is famous for, let’s say bread, it is only famous for that fullstop. Whatever that tags along with the brand name is likely just an attempt to milk more money and ends up draging the whole brand name into mud.

On a side note, if you eat at the restaurant, you get a 10% discount from the bakery next door. There were a ton of free tastings (the chocolate muffins/brownies looked tempting. However, I saw a piece roll onto the floor from the paper plate. I assume they threw it away afterwards.) , presuming because the bakery just opened (?). Was sadly too full trying to finish eating my money’s worth to try out the free food.
