We had onion soup, shared avocado and soft shell crab salad, my friend had half roasted chicken, I had aubergine parmigiani.
Onion soup was sour and a bit gooey, the bread and cheese were floating inside the soup. I liked the taste, but this is not the way onion soup usually tastes and looks.
Crab salad tasted nice, although it had bitter aftertaste. It has a very interesting texture of crab, crab roe (?) and avocado blended together. I suspect the salad was the dish that gave us bad stomachs.
Chicken was nice, but potatos on the side were super greasy. They were even of this dark, soaked-in-oil-color, very poor quality.
My aubergine in parmesan cheese was really good, the only dish that would get an A, if I were grading the dishes.

Overall the dinner would be a C+, if my friend and I both had not get upset stomzchs the day after dinner. This was the only meal we shared, so there can be no coincidence. I am sorry to share this, but I thought other guests should know. And the resto people should do something about the quolity of ingredients to improve their business.
Thank you for your attention.

Atmosphere
There was the option of sitting on or out side. Being at the restaurant made my Tuesday afternoon not a typical one as it was very chill. The design of the restaurant was simple, comfortable and industral. Definitely a place where you'd want to hang out and be seen at on a Saturday night and or a chill Sunday afternoon with a beer.

Service
There was only two staff but were friendly and efficient making the dinning experience super enjoyable Not to mention the food was good!
They served fresh bread right after we ordered and without having to say anything, more bread was brought to our table which really impressed me.

Menu
We didnt really look into the menu as they offered set lunches that were appealing so we decided to go with that.

We ordered the Salmon Tartar as our appertizer. It was really refreshing. The proportion was good, sauce wasn't over powering everything just went very well together.

Ribeye Steak with fries was one of our entree. The steak was abit thin but surprisingly tasted pretty good. The fries reminded of me of McDonald's which were thin and crispy.

The other entree was the Red pepper Baramundi with potatos. The fish was juicy and crispy on the outside. With light chilly sauce, red peppers and fish together it tasted even better. The potatos were delicious as well.

Last but not the least was the Chocolate Mousse. The presentation was very simple, however the flavor wasn't. The mousse had heavy chocolate taste, it was thick and creamy. Just how I like it.

Overall, we were very satisfied with everything that we ordered. And the best part is ...it's close to home!

After we took our seats, the lady put down some menus for us to look at. Then, another lady asked us if we wanted some water and quickly brought them to us. The lunch specials were written on a chalk board. I think it was a really cool idea maybe because I like chalk boards.
The lunch sets seemed like good deals; you could either have a 2 course meal for $88 or a 3 course meal for $98.

After ordering, it was time to admire the decor.
There was a huge French metro map made of bricks on the right side of the wall. Even the ground was made of tiny bricks, and along with the little white round tables with metal chairs,  I thought it was stylish!
I liked it and we got to people watch as we were facing the sidewalks outside, which I liked as well.

Shortly after ordering, we received a bread basket, which had four slices in it. Don't count me on this, but since it was a bit sour, I believe it was sourdough. The bread was warm, crunchy on the outside but soft inside. After our first slice, our appetizer Salmon Tartar came. I have to say, their service was really efficient. There was barely any waiting. Anyways, back to the salmon. The salmon was served with two slices of bread that were more like crackers. I'm pretty sure the salmon was mixed with capers, which was actually pretty good because capers can be a bit overpowering sometimes . The salmon tasted really good when you had it with the bread crackers. It was a refreshing and delicious start to our meal.
I ate the last piece of bread and without asking, they gave us another basket.
I really liked that they just assumed that we'd want more bread.

Wow, after such a good start, I was ready for the main. There were two lunch options for the day. I preferred the rib eye with fries and garlic butter, whereas my sister preferred the baramundi with red peppers. However, the two of us kinda shared the two mains so that we could sample both.

My sister complained that the beef was a little thin, but for the price we paid, it was reasonable. I don't like my meat too raw so I ordered it medium well and it was cooked medium well.
The garlic butter was the highlight of thie dish! There was about a teaspoon of butter on the beef as you can see. After swooshing it on the beef, I put the remaining on the fries so I had garlic fries. Woo hoo~
The beef was average but good enough. The fries were thin like McD fries, but they were fried well and the ones that were under the meat soaked up all the juices of the meat and were amazing. Now, lets see how the fish was. The skin on the fish was nice and crispy and the meat was tender and melted on your mouth.
Perfect! I couldn't decide if I liked it with the peppers or not because it tasted good with and without. As for the potatoes and peas, they were not bad as well. The peas looked really big to me or maybe I'm just used to looking at the tiny frozen ones. Ha!
Overall, I liked the rib eye more than the baramundi.

After we were done our mains, the lady asked if we wanted tea/coffee or dessert. I already had a cup of coffee in the morning so I didn't want any drinks and I knew that my sister would try the dessert of the day and that I could try hers so that is what happened. The dessert of the day was Chocolate Mousse. The mousse was served in a tiny jar, which was really cute and cool. The mousse was really chocolaty. I wouldn't say it was exceptional, but it was good nonetheless.

We were really full afterwards so we sat for a while and hoped that they'd bring us our bill, but even after asking for it once and most of the people of the restaurant had left, our bill was no where to be seen. Oh well, so we asked again and it came immediately. We left and they said goodbye to us. THE END

Final Verdict:
I liked the environment as it was comfortable and relaxing. The food was pretty good so I think I'd try their dinner some day if I have a chance.

The first time I was here I tried the steak tartar.
It was good and very flavorful, but the fries served with it were rather greasy and soggy.
I prefer mine to be crispy.

The second time I ate here, this past Sunday, I ordered a ham and cheese omlette.  While it tasted okay, the 4 potato pieces on the bamboo skewer served with it were very good.
However, I was shocked to see the cook restocking his station with some pre-shredded orange colored (cheddar?) cheese from a big plastic bag!  Considering this is a French restaurant and with all of the great French cheeses that could be used in a ham and cheese omlette, I was very disappointed.

Also, considering the prices, the portions I had both times I ate there were a bit small.

Despite all of this, I am still interested in going back to try something more substantial for dinner.

We arrived around 8:30pm on Sat and it was pretty busy. The service was pretty decent but not too attentive. The food was pretty average. Nothing to write home about. The deco is very nice. The apple pie dessert is something that we enjoyed the most. Didnt have a chance to try their beef or tuna tartare but it does look good. One other thing was the fries was very very oily! Enough so that I noticed the table next to mine (2 females) actually used napkins to pat down the oil.

This restaurant is a real little heaven in the rising area of Sai Ying Pun.

I had dinner there with my girlfriend and we have been totally seduced.
First, the venue is really amazing. The atmosphere is friendly and welcoming.
The staff is attentive and efficient.
For the food, no comment except perfect for us:
- Salmon tartar: Unavoidable!! just wonderful! It's fresh and well prepared with some crunchy condiments that give a special dimension to this dish. its served with some toasts.
- Goat cheese salad: The cheese is really good and the lavender dressing is just so good and surprising. but not too much.
- Risotto: It was creamy and we can really appreciate the taste of the mushrooms. I liked the parmesan biscuit that comes with.
- Chicken: the skin is crispy and the meat is tender. yummy! it's served with some delicious and tasty potatoes.
- Chocolate cake: we shared this desert. Full of chocolate and well runny inside.

sum up: I adore! try it!

Ham Platter
Bonjour mon ami ~~

Herbs Potato

Special - Mussels

Steak Tartar

Cream Brulee, Chocolate Mousse, Traditional Apple Tart, Banana Ice Cream.

Other Info. :

I and a friend went to try this restaurant we had vaguely heard about on high street.
The decor is picturing a French brasserie.

Poor service:
We arrived at rush hour - around 2 pm on Saturday and the restaurant was full, but as there was no queue, we decided to wait for a table. We were proposed to wait at the bar, which we did and probably shouldn't have done. From the moment we sat, the two waiters were pressuring us to eat at the bar, in front of the mayonnaise pot, condiments, and other cooking stuff. Every two minutes we were asked to order but we kept asking waiting for a table. Finally a table got free on the terrasse and, to our disbelief, was given to a couple waiting outside. Another table got available a few minutes later and again it was given to some people who had arrived after us. When we mentioned that tow waitress passing by, she replied that she didn't dare commenting on the waiter in charge of placing customers.
As we were about to leave, the table next to us got freed and we had to ask for it specifically so we got it.

Food so-so:
Overall I think the ingredients are quality ingredients. However the cooking really needs to be reviewed:
Salmon tartare: quality salmon but you can not taste it as the sauce is very thick and strong. It's not tartare anymore, but sauce and condiments.
Goat cheese salad: good cheese. Salad sauce was this time watery and tasted like water which killed a bit the dish. You feel like eating row veggies :/ pity.
Croque Madame: this one was good. (Same comment however on the green salad that goes with it)
Roasted chicken with potatoes: potatoes are served in butter - really good. However the chicken was not cooked enough: skin was still soft and meat was sometimes still raw so we didn't eat it all.

From what I could see in the table next to us: the steak tartare was not really attractive. The banana split seemed ok but covered by 10cm high whipped cream - u had better like whipped cream a lot.

All day breakfast,有多種選擇,都離不開雞蛋,我選了Eggs Benedict 。

But this restaurant is in SYP and is still rather unheard of so Lo, Fi and I thought we would go there for a casual, mellow weekday dinner.

Metropolitain was designed to look like a Parisian metro station; the bare concrete walls, the metro map, the railway station clock, the wrought iron details all plays to the theme. We were seated comfortably in a corner facing the open kitchen; service was friendly and chill (but not slow, which is great). The ambience is cozy and relaxed.

The menu was simple French fare: we ordered the calamari, the Steak tartar with fries, the Braised lamb shank with olive oil mashed potato (in case you haven’t realized, I love lamb), Seabass fillet, celeriac puree & sauce vierge and the Tarte Tatin

The calamari looked rather greasy on first glance, I had one piece just so I know how it taste like. The batter wasn’t light and crispy enough and the squid, although not rubbery, was not crunchy and bouncy. We left more than half the plate untouched hoping that this is just one off dish out of the menu.

Next up was Fi’s Steak tartar, her fries looked like they were drenched in oil, not just once but multiple times till they are kinda brown and gross. Needlesss to say, none of us touched those fries. Her steak tartar was rather tasteless and chewy, she had to add a whole lot of salt & pepper to season it but pretty much gave up half way

While waiting for my main, I spotted Ag on the other end of the restaurant and went over to chat with her. I also sampled her salmon tartare, the salmon was fresh, and the refreshing acidity of the mixture cut through the richness of the salmon; making the whole dish light and appetizing =) thanks Ag for sharing!

Back to our table- my lamb shank looked a lot more promising, the meat was tender and tasty (the sauce had infused through yet was not overpowering); it was so not gamey I almost forgot I was eating lamb. The mashed potato was decent; the mash a bit uneven (i.e. not entirely fine and smooth) so there were small chunks of potato, which adds texture to it.

Lo’s sea bass fillet was surprisingly small and thin, different from the thicker or chunkier pieces we are used to. Despite the size of the sea bass, Lo really enjoyed her dish, the sea bass was flavorful and its skin crispy. Lo especially liked the celeriac puree; which is creamy yet light with subtle sweetness.

While we weren’t very inspired by the choices of dessert, we would like to stay and chat for a while more so we ordered the tarte tatin (the upside down apple pie). Let’s just say the best part of this dessert was the ice cream and Lo said it could be from Haagen Dazs, the pastry was too soggy; the caramelized apple overly sweet.

Overall, I quite like metropolitain, predominately for its laid back atmosphere (laid back but not empty for sure, there was not a single empty seat even though it was a weekday and this restaurant is relatively new). It seems to be a fun place to have a few glasses of wine and simple dishes especially when you want to get away from the usual “ I need this table back by 9pm” kinda places.

這趟又選了 Calamari with Tartar Sauce。

Half Roasted Chicken with Thyme & Lemon, Served with Herbs Potatoes。

I came here the other night with some friends. While they weren't very impressed, and I wasn't VERY impressed, I still liked it. Though more and more things keep getting added out in Sai Ying Pun, none of it is all that amazing (when compared to what's east of it). I think Metropolitain is a good step forward. Here's what we had:

Baked camembert: I'm no cheese-expert. This was gooey and cheesy and went well with bread, though it was somewhat difficult to serve. It was probably not very healthy, though that's the sort of mirror I prefer not to turn on my lifestyle. If you want hot, melty cheese, well, look no further! B+

Beef tenderloin w/ onions: I asked for the server's recommendation on the steak and accepted it: medium rare. The steak was actually rather rare, with most of it being completely pink, and only a thin layer on the outside being cooked (and it was a thick steak). It was very tender and I quite enjoyed the rare parts that were in biting distance from the cooked parts. However, in the middle there were entire chunks that were nothing but raw meat, and it wasn't entirely appetizing to me. Call me a philistine or an American or what-have-you. The steak was covered in marinated onions, which definitely complimented it well. I liked the parts that were cooked somewhat, and was less than excited about the rest. B

Gratin dauphinois: The beef came with a potato and cheese/ cream dish that was quite rich and tasty. It was piping hot upon arrival, which is a positive, but didn't far exceed in flavor or complexity the "potatoes and cheese" my parents would make growing up. It was... potatoes and cheese. Obviously not bad, but nothing amazing either. B+

Lamb shank w/ mashed potatoes: My wife got this. It was tender and fall-apart-y. Reasonably flavorful, and the mashed potatoes tasted good-- but again, not amazing. For the most part this was solid food, nothing amazing. She gives it an A-/B+.

I'll note that both of our dishes were meat + potatoes and no veggies. Is that how the French usually run things? Should we have ordered veggies on the side?

The place was packed and the people who worked there seemed very jovial and fun-loving, and perhaps a little bit intoxicated (one chef who was leaving threw his hat and apron rather forcefully at a server while exchanging goodbyes rather loudly and emphatically). The service was hectic, but utterly passable by Hong Kong standards. The open front area was pleasant, at least at this time of year. All in all, I'd give the place a B/B+
Other Info. : 0 min table wait time = reservation. This place is popular so call ahead!

I often go to France and this restaurant is an authentic one. You are directly taking back to the real Paris.
First the venue is amazing, with this huge terrace, this open kitchen and the impressive map of the city of love.
Then the food. Amazing! Thanks to the chef!
The home made foie gras is perhaps the best ever tried in Hong Kong! An authentic french Foie gras. The slices are quite thick and it is very tasty. And the chutney served with it is very good.
Then the goat cheese salad. I was curious and a little bit scared, at the same time, by the "lavender honey" dressing but finally it's very subtle and pleasant.
The risotto was really creamy and you can really appreciate the mushrooms flavors. An authentic one.
The roasted chicken is just perfect. They have a rotisserie. Thanks to this, the chicken is soft and crispy. so good and it comes with some incredible potatoes.
And we shared a traditional Creme Brulee. yummy!! perfectly done. Cold and creamy inside and crispy and lightly hot on the top!
Certainly the best place in this area, and one of the best french cuisine in Hong Kong.
