The sad part was the food... not the restaurant who I think is very well decorated and cozy, and not the staff who was very nice and understanding.
The first thing that got me worried was the wine list. I normally drink red wine but after going through the list it was clear that I was going to have a beer because of the price and the selection by the glass was too expensive and restrictive.
As far as the food was concerned I ordered the Pregnant Tomato, the Grandma Croquettes and the Cod fish with creamy sauce.
The Pregnant Tomatos where pregnant all right but not of anything tasty. This dish does not come up to the expectations of the description in the menu. It was very blend and I did not taste the fish in there at all. This dish was recommended by the staff.
The Grandma croquettes were also highly recommended by the Staff but what a deception! Again, lack of taste! I had the impression of eating a square of thawed Mozzarella Squares served in cheap restaurants. This dish would be so good with less cheese, more ham, Sun dried tomatoes and maybe a bit of chives!
The Cod fish... again recommended by the staff. Wow! That really killed the dining experience. When I saw the plate I thought that this was a mistake and that it was an appetizer plate for someone else.

So I requested the menu again to verify my order and to my surprise the order was right. This piece of fish could hardly feed a five year old. I am 6'4", 95 kl... So when I saw the plate and realized the price that I was charged for I thought that I would at least try it before being negative. Well,... the Baby portion was so overcooked and the shrimp or Crawfish that was over it was also over cooked that I did not even finish that 5 square centimeter piece of fish. The sauce was very good though!
When I ask for the bill, who was by the way $488 HKD for one person, the staff ask me if I enjoy my meal... I was very honest and told both of them that my meal wasn't tasty at all and way too expensive. One of the staff to who I explained that my fish and seafood was overcooked, told me that the fish came from Norway and it was best quality. I explained to her that the fish can come from the moon but if it is overcooked, it is overcooked. Cod is very delicate and requires lots of love!
I wrote to the restaurant for them to explain to me why my experience was so bad tonight and they didn't even bother in providing an apology as a minimum! There are so many other good restaurant in QRE Plaza! They need to seriously consider better pricing and dining experience for their customers. I am a french Canadian from Montreal and wining and dining is life! I would love to come back to Quemo but with a menu that is also tailored for the single guest.

Mediterranean Paella (地中海特色海鮮飯)比面盆還要大,有別於常見的海鮮飯,是加泰隆尼亞的特色煮法,淺薄的一層飯,按火力的大小,形成了三種不同的硬度,最外層是類似飯焦,乾身富焦香;中間是剛好軟熟的飯粒,而最中間是Risotto;單是飯粒還不夠,別外附上用白酒煮的花蛤,吃的時候亦有特別的處理手法,先將花蛤取起一邊,再沾上少許忌廉,然反再搯起飯粒吃,很具特色的食法,而且令到比例恰到好處,既有嚼口又有海鮮的鮮甜。

We sat by the bar and watch supposely the chef in action. However, there was not much action going on. We went on sunday for lunch, but the menu was restricted to brunch menu: tortilla, soup and other starters. Luckily for us, paella was allowed to order.

We ordered a zucchini tortilla. It was cold!

Then gazpacho, which of course was cold, but nothing special.
Then we had the paella with squid diced and mixed in, but the clams came separately. Again it was COLD!!!


This is the first time in my life that i ate a cold paella. I have been to Valencia, where paella originated from. I had every single different type of paella there.
I am not comparing this restaurant's paella with paella in Valencia, but for the very least, it has to be HOT!
We told the waitress about it, she responded: "oh" and left.

What kind of service is this??!


Anyways, I'll never go back. For the costly price, the cold food and the bad service.... why on earth will i go back?!

Grandma chocolate cake。坦白說,這個祖母的朱古力蛋糕可能有很多個版本,最重要是視乎廚師的祖母擅長做那種款式的吧。這個朱古力蛋糕中間加入了很多餅乾夾層,吃起來多了脆脆的口感。

整體的味道不錯,不過份量偏小了點,女孩子應該剛剛好,男仕的話或許會覺得不夠飽,可是這裡的用餐氣氛還真的很舒服很relax,很適合一班朋友在周末聚在一起吃吃喝喝呢。

而Quemo的做法 賣相顯得略為粗糙 好似也并不可用精緻去形容 不過回歸了食物本來最真實的味道 應該也是廚師最厲害的地方 不是嗎?
而其實在食材上的選擇 也是頗花心思 Iberic火腿較溫順的Parma ham 更顯得有個性 有種繞口不絕的鹹香 同時蛋味在鐵盤的調和下 軟熟的牽連起火腿和薯蓉的滋味 一氣呵成的口感 也更顯得妙趣橫生

Just like most of the new tapas bar/Spanish restaurant, QUEMO shared the same problem of being expensive but the portion of food being very small

The impression on QUEMO is not good
When we arrived, there are at least 2 empty tables, we requested a seat there but were rejected and need to sit in the bar area. Afterall, these tables were not occupied in the whole evening!

For the Sangria, it is totally disappointing, you can see how they mix it in the bar, with red wine and Sprite. And the fruit which is usally present in most Spanish restaurant is also not absent. For the taste, it is disappointing. It taste like diluted red wine, while the red wine is of poor quality.

For the tapas, which costs about 100 per plate, the portion is so small that only 2 pieces of dumpling of 3 cm in diameter is in each dish. For the taste, it is ok but simply not value for money.

For the mediterranean rice which looks quite big, again, disappointing
The amount is about 2.5 small bowl of rice and the seafood inside is mainly clam and mussel
The taste is ok and not too moist, with some crispy rice
But it costs $350!!!
Luckily, the boiled clam which is served with the paella taste good, especially with the lemon and garlic sauce

Two of us ordered one mediterranean rice and two tapas and we found that the amount is really inadequate, unfortunately, we decided not to order more food as most of it is just ok but   very expensive

To put it shortly, I will come back to Quemo for 3 reasons:- The Iberico Pork is stunning, perfectly cooked, and comes with mash potatoes that could compare to those of Robuchon!- Catalan rice masters both superb texture and pungent taste- Finally a place to taste and discover great wines from Spain (white Terras Gauda and red Castro de Valtuille were my favorites, with the sparkling cava Privat Laieta to start dinner). They were already getting busy especially as they open from 6. All the tables were already taken / reserved so they gave us a seat right by the bar. The setting was very small, only enough room for a small plate, but we did get to look at all the starters and chat with the friendly staff. It all looked so good, so they made a selection plate for us. All very nice, perhaps a little bit too salty for my liking... But it did go nicely with the sangria!

One of the fun things was the way that the staff created a lively atmosphere encouraging diners to try drinking from the porron. A great laugh and good for a few snapshots!

Asparagus was sizeable, nicely presented. With rosmeco sauce...

Then the paella arrives. First the "toppings" arrive separately, and then the big paella plate. A big show about how crispy & moist it is, and indeed it is.

Overall, I really liked this place. Probably a great place for a group gathering. Great atmosphere, friendly staff, and good paella. But I have to say, it didn't seem cheap. I was still hungry for more and if one drank more than a glass or two, then the bill would quickly add up.

Phone a way ahead, get one of the tables, sit back and have fun.

On the plus side, the staff was very friendly and the place was quite nice. So overall it is a decent place but be prepared to spend a lot if you want to be full.

西班牙菜中最喜歡吃paella,所以我們亦不放過餐廳主打的Mediterranean rice。大廚堅持只用此又大又重的平底圓鑊製海鮮飯,因為只有把飯鋪成一層的煮才可做出邊位帶焦,中間黏韌的效果。用以紅蝦殼、魚和雞等熬成的湯煮飯,煮得差不多時拿去焗一下,之後再煮讓湯汁收乾。依侍應指示加進另上的蜆和蜆汁,並把邊位和中間的飯粒混和,入口鮮味非常,微帶刺激鹹辛,拌入點隨上的香蒜醬。飯粒咬口十足,每顆之間夾雜了些魷魚粒,令口感更為豐富。

Presa,黑毛豬肩脊肉切成九片,雖每片受熱程度不一,但吃得出用料上乘,整體肉質尚算嫩,不用蘸醬汁亦美味。只略嫌表面的海鹽粗粒稍多了點,不把它們弄開的話會稍鹹。伴菜的薯蓉十分幼細,牛油味香,叫人邊吃邊大喊邪惡。

Liquid bombons 看上去彷若朱古力糯米糍,咬下濺出朱古力軟心,味道挺濃,會給人倍添飽滯感。可是實在不值此價,要不是套餐包了絕不會散點來吃。

甜心人愛甜,所以多點了一客Apple bunuelo,竟料上來跟Liquid bombons模樣相近,叫人失望。雞蛋仔似的軟皮裹了蘋果蓉,相對之下我還比較喜歡朱古力那款,但實際上我較希望吃到churro 等傳統西班牙甜品

獨是甜品一環偏弱,幸好是夜有兩個生日蛋糕作壓軸,把甜心人的注意力分散了。侍應的服務亦很不錯,每上一道菜都會給我們簡單介紹,最後也沒收我們切餅費。吃得很愉快的一頓,特別把餐廳推介給愛吃paella的朋友。

It is always exciting to try out new restaurant. Quemo opened last week quietly but the food has a lot to rave about. I found out the name means "Hot" or "Beware" and is commonly used amongst chefs. The team behind this place is impeccable. While Tony the manager comes from ABAC (Michelin 2 star) , the two executive chefs Quim comes from El Quim de Boqueria (rated best tapas bar in Barcelona) and Aitor Olebaiyor won the Best Young Chef in Spain in 1999.

The restaurant which has a rustic contemporary design lined with aged wood,mediterranean tiles and ambience lighting is not unlike the restaurants you find in Barcelona. It sets you into the perfect mood for the food to follows. Tony was kind enough to offer us a sangria which he aged for a week with many ingredients and it is refreshing and thirst quenching. He also recommended a bottle of 2011 Honoro Vera (100% granache) which was chosen as the official wine for the Oscar Award Gala Dinner. I was delighted to be drinking the same wine that Ben Afflek and Ann Hathway drank that night.

The food we orderd are:

1)Pregnant tomatoes - filled with smoked fish and the taste is fresh and appetizing. The savoury smokiness and the tangy tomato combines to give a great uplifting flavor.

2)Stuffed Squid- The squid is stuffed with minced pork and vegetables. The combination with thick black ink sauce produce a strong lasting savoury seafood flavour in the mouth.

3)Oyster burger- the sweet potato bun is home made and combined with froe gras, oyster ,tangy sauce and crunchy sesame brings a unique texture and taste that is new to the palate.

4)Mediterranean rice- The mussels comes seperately from the bomba rice which makes this dish appealing. For one order you can taste two dishes. The aroma of the rice brings memory of seaside holidays. Caramelized perfectly, the texture and taste is as authentic as you can get. This is best paella i ever had.

Overall, I am glad the food is not molecular at all. It is rustic cooking raised to a new level with traditional recipe and modern technique. The portion is also generous and satisfying. We are quite full and had no room for dessert. Tony said that i must try the liquid bonbon next time.

Quemo also has two terraces which is ideal for a cigar smokers like me. The only fault i can find is there is no umbrella yet in the terrace. The total bill comes to about $300 per person. It is reasonable considering the quality of the food and service. They must have chosen the name right as this restaurant will be a "HOT" restaruant in town.
