Rice paper serves Vietnamese food but not in an authentic way. We were seated a little after 11:45am and the place was fairly empty
. We were refused to be seated next to the window overseeing the Victoria harbor as the waitress said that specific area was only opened after 12pm
.

We ordered the Viet Sampler as appetizer to share, followed by Viet raw beef rice noodles and Chargrilled pork neck with bua cha cold vermicelli as main courses.
The lunch sets were reasonable priced – main:$88, appetizer+main:$116.

Prawn rice paper roll was pretty good. Lettuce, carrots, cucumbers, sizable prawns and vermicelli were nicely wrapped in chewy rice papers. Refreshing, but it would be even nicer if peanut sauce was served with this particular wrap

Crispy soft shell crab was not crispy and I could taste a mouthful of oily flour
. Steamed pork parcel was a delightful slide dish and the pork mince inside was nicely flavored. The steamed rice paper was really soft which gave an exciting textural and flavorful contrast
.
The Vietnamese sausages were however a slight disappointment to us. After my recent visit to Ho Chi Minh City, I am very intrigued to the flavorful Vietnamese sausage which has a chewy and ham-like texture. Unluckily, the version appeared in Rice Paper was rather tasteless compared with the authentic ones

Viet raw beef rice noodles (Pho tai) was a bit on the bland side
.
Arriving 10 mins later than the other main course, the sliced beef was no longer raw. The beef broth was also not aromatic at all. There were rightful amount of noodles, cooked beef and basils but they all tasted nothing extraordinary. The restaurant did not use the same noodles that you could find everywhere in Vietnam or in any authentic Vietnamese restaurant in Hong Kong. Therefore, you could never enjoy it in a local way

The grilled pork neck soaked the mouthwatering flavour of fish sauce and made a good complement to the cold vermicelli
. Blessed with the right amount of lean meat and fat, the texture was light and chewy. However, a few slices of the pork neck was overly grilled which resulted in a slightly burnt surface

I have tried this restaurant few years ago in their already closed branch in WTC in Hong Kong Island. Neither the food quality nor the service deteriorated (or improved).
The restaurant was nicely decorated in a French colonial style and the service was above average.
However, it would not be the best destination for authentic Vietnamese cuisine.

份量夠大,足有半隻,肉質唔老,GOOD!
之後再叫左個芒果黑糯米,賣相一流,味道幾好,當然,你又唔好期望佢有咩食左會送一對翼HIGH到上天既效果。
能夠保持水準其實真係唔容易,比你做一次半次好食到上太空仲要難。

既!!

另一缺點係,環境好嘈,D刀叉聲搞到茶樓咁,佢有播音樂,但搞到我完全聽唔到。。。。。
希望有改善啦!

牛腩炆得夠稔, 牛筋數量也不少, 與牛腩同樣有濃郁咖喱味. 但奇怪的是薯仔味道較淡, 懷疑不是與牛腩同炆的.

每次都愛點這個炒飯, 原因是那新鮮的菠蘿, 有烤過的味道. 但今次真的大為失望, 海鮮中有一隻連殼的青口, 一放進口便立即吐了出來, 原因是它變壞了, 而且還有臭味. 海鮮這類食物, 處理得不好很容易變壞, 所有餐廳都應該深明此道理. 希望 Rice Paper 可以好好改善食物質素, 避免食壞客人.

是日四處逛, 決定不了吃什麼為晚飯, 遇到rice paper, 既然沒試過這分店, 不妨一試終於有沙嗲串燒得不乾身, 雞肉,牛肉,豬肉都很嫩滑, 內裡不乾有水份, 又入味, 很久沒試過似樣子的沙嗲串了 加上沙嗲汁都不差, 有小許花生味, 很香口很嫩綠的菜, 份量真不少, 不雖太多調味, 都很好吃, 賣相亦ok只有少許辣味的XO醬, 炒起來很香而帶出整個炒粉的味道, 幼粉一條一條的, 沒有黏在一起, 令有很多雞柳及少許蝦及芽菜等, 材料足, 整體讚最後來的是頭盤雞翼, 雖然遲了點, 但真的新鮮熱辣, 香脆非常, 每隻雞翼大大隻, 超級好肉, 真很久沒吃過那麼厚肉的雞翼, 很難得! 肉裡的肉都是滑嫩的, 不會因炸而過乾, 是開胃的小吃

與朋友相約傾野, 二點多, 未醫肚便隨便走進一家餐廳邊吃邊傾。恕我愚昧, 我看看泰越式菜門面, 心想一個粉一杯飲品只是數十元出門口的格局。後來坐入去, 一看餐牌... 對不起, 我又錯了! 一個粉$70-80, 小菜等動輒過百。想想附近寫字樓林立, 慨歎現在社會時勢真的很難搵食。朋友還反諷我一道, 這店價錢一向差不多, 都是不便宜, 以為你知道呢?! 心中有說不出的話兒, 但都不是味。我們擾攘了一陣, 最後我們決定點一些飯麵吧! 反正都是醫肚, 飯麵最飽。先是來一個泰式辣椒肉碎炒飯, 喜歡吃辣的我這個很對味呀! 飯上面的煎蛋外皮很脆, 拌碎入飯中, 多一分質感。感覺就好似將炸過的天婦羅脆粒放於拉麵及飯中一樣。肉碎醃過, 將鹹味帶入飯中, 辣椒惹味, 吃下刺激而健脾。不過奉勸如果不太吃辣的朋友, 可能這個辣的程度會有點難受。越式炒貴刁, 貴刁我也很喜歡, 因為它有河粉的滑, 但沒有河粉般漿膩; 它如粗麵般厚而有彈性, 但比之輕巧; 它如米粉般味道, 但同一個粉可湯可炒, 來得更有塑造性。這個貴刁炒的是一些簡單急凍海鮮, 金不換, 辣椒, 蒜, 後來加上一點點紅蔥乾, 感覺穩定工整。沒有花

先是來一個泰式辣椒肉碎炒飯, 喜歡吃辣的我這個很對味呀! 飯上面的煎蛋外皮很脆, 拌碎入飯中, 多一分質感。感覺就好似將炸過的天婦羅脆粒放於拉麵及飯中一樣。肉碎醃過, 將鹹味帶入飯中, 辣椒惹味, 吃下刺激而健脾。不過奉勸如果不太吃辣的朋友, 可能這個辣的程度會有點難受。

越式炒貴刁, 貴刁我也很喜歡, 因為它有河粉的滑, 但沒有河粉般漿膩; 它如粗麵般厚而有彈性, 但比之輕巧; 它如米粉般味道, 但同一個粉可湯可炒, 來得更有塑造性。這個貴刁炒的是一些簡單急凍海鮮, 金不換, 辣椒, 蒜, 後來加上一點點紅蔥乾, 感覺穩定工整。沒有花巧, 但來得隨意。

雖然我吃的只是簡單飯麵, 可是感覺足夠, 味道亦算不錯, 是一個不錯的傾談佐食飯。縱使如此, 在這個名店林立的商場入面生存, 少不了鋪租的份兒, 相信價錢貴的原因可窺端倪。但另一方面也不要忘記這些店都是來自一些餐廳集團, 而他們於不同餐廳品牌的開發成本也不少, 相信這都是從你的口袋掏出來的。無論如何, 不論價錢如何, 也是你情我願, 總比價貴料劣, 出品差服務弱的要好很多。

朋友約吃飯,很創速的在海港城”篤”了Rice Paper。一間曾吃過,頗喜歡的餐廳。以前是很難訂枱的,今晚7點鐘,竟然仍有不少”吉”枱。不想思考,由朋友拍板。冬蔭公,用如嗽口盅的杯盛,賣相創新。杯口窄,造就材料豐富之感。先拿起大頭蝦,很多膏!出色!然後看到濃濃茄橙色的湯,非常creamy,蝦味豐富。「濃」如冬蔭精華。重味.....相對的,咸囉!牛油果蟹肉蝦片沙律。蟹肉沙律吃得多,加牛油果,原來好正!菠蘿炒飯,雖然海鮮料不少,但炒得又油又咸。和朋友越吃越吃不下。稍為中和返,就是那燒菠蘿,很甜美。這餐若不是那沙律,清清胃口,真的找不了可取之處。”Rice Paper”何解智變成這樣架?

第一次寫食評請各朋友位多多包含, 多多指教!!! 貪吃是我公主的稱號, 上一個月的星期一我和我的朋友一起在尖沙咀購物,行了不久突然發現自己沒有吃午飯,但是當時已經是兩點鐘。在沒有選擇的情況下我選擇了一間越南餐廳。在外面看來好像一間很有情調的餐廳,裝修方面都蠻不錯環境方面所有桌子和椅看起來都蠻新.十分整潔.店內選擇了一些比較柔和的顏色(棕色和米色)和風扇的設計, 給人一個很舒適的感覺. 正因為幸運地被安排到一個接近窗口的位子,可以看到ICC和香港島的景色. 好像有如自身於越南。 如果可以的話安排到戶外, 感覺會比較有情調和舒適一點. 茶水BAR都很有STYLE,看來有小小像CLUBBING般的BAR檯 食物來說都算OK。雞肉炒泰式米粉有越南風味, 點心很有特色。春卷很香脆有彈性,芒果沙律卷給人一個換然一新的感覺,芒果和蔬菜的醬料都配對得很好。有機會不仿可以試吃。在夏天是一個不錯的選擇. 再配青檸檬蘇打真是絕配飲o野聊天是一個不錯的選擇的地方牛肉湯麵只是標準而已,圖片可作參考

門口帶位(Ricky),得悉這事後,游說我們進餐並贈送甜品,本人示意不從,Rice Paper分店負責人Kathy也擺出一副無回應的姿態出來,沒跟進過整件事。

***本人就整件事於9月3日星期一早上致電美心集團投訴,如實向接聽電話的CATHY(謝小姐)反映,她即時答應聯絡公關部報告,同日下午,已收到分區經理CHRIS CHAN回覆,他首先向本人確認整件事過程始末,並到海港城Rice Paper向三位當事人了解事故,本人對其及時交代及得體語氣深表讚揚,令客人感到受尊重,公關部已於9月13日內發出跟進電郵予本人。

本人滿意公關部處理手法。


經歷說畢,本人只想如其他食客般表達己見,並非抹黑,希望大家互相尊重。

服務有很大的改善空間:

有一位男侍可能培訓不足:

(1) 他非常有效率地,以9秒9的速度將牛油雞翼有點兒重手地放在抬上。然後無聲無色地轉身以9秒9的速度快速閃開。。。
最大問題是他將牛油雞翼放在我後面的抬。


另一位有禮的女侍應亦以9秒9的速度將牛油雞翼拿開。一分鍾後才拿到我們的抬上。

(2) 同一位男侍應又以9秒9的速度將札肉河粉,又有點兒重手地放在抬上。然後又無聲無色地轉身快閃。。。
又是放在後面的抬。客人又吃了一口。。。


(3) 等了良久後,又是他。
這次他站在我們抬旁,靜悄悄沒有任何動靜。
原來他應在等我幫他移開抬面上的杯碟(!)。人品差,又態度惡劣的我
,當然不合作。我亦靜悄悄地坐著。。。

過了幾秒沉默的對峙後,他最後自己搬開一隻碟。
我(善良)的太太亦幫手移開另一隻碟。他將香草滾湯河放低。然後快閃黨又快快閃開了。

需要強調的是,其他侍應則有禮亦專業。

飲完下火的咸檸蘇打及青檸蘇打後,我們亦快閃!

再離開人車紛擾,沙塵滾滾的廣東道。

用$3元乘天星小輪放鬆心情。





We originally wanted to try the Udon shop at the food court. It seemed to be only of the few handmade udon shops left in Hong Kong. But it was extremely busy even at 2:00 p.m. so we walked around. Seats were available at Rice paper so we gave it a go.

We ordered spring rolls, buttered chicken wings and a pork pho plus a lime soda and a preserved lemon soda.

After a 6-7 minutes wait, we saw a guy holding the butter chicken approaching our table...... only to see him walked past our table and then placing the buttered wings at the table next to us. The whole process of him placing the wings, somewhat roughly, on their table, swiftly turning his back away without saying a word and speeding away lasted for approximately 5 seconds.


Another, probably more senior waitress, took away the buttered wings just as swiftly 5 seconds later.


Because I wasn't too hungry at the time, I was still in the mood to feel quite amused by witnessing that and was wondering when the chicken would arrive.


It eventually did after 1 minute:
香噴噴。有牛油香及蒜香。厚肉。但外層的炸槳不能包好整隻雞翼。

The buttered wings at Rice Paper (Festival Walk) had a much fuller batter which could completely coat the wings. That was one of the best I've had. But I"m not sure whether they've changed their recipe or not. I haven't been able to have that for quite a while. Anyway, about the chicken wings here, it was quite crispy and the wings were quite big. The meat was tender and had the nice aromatic combination of garlic and butter.


It was about HK$66 dollars. So that's HK$11 per wings. No cheap but OK.

Then came the spring rolls. Served by a different male waiter, who was very polite and professional - which no doubt facilitated our spring rolls arriving successfully on our table.

The spring rolls were wrapped properly and then deep fried. It wasn't too oily. The springs rolls basically consisted of some chopped pork which was slightly marinated, Chinese water chestnut. You can then have the spring rolls with the lettuce and the mint provided. The veggies provided were fresh.

Not as good as those I've tried a "Lo Chiu" in Jordan, Hillwood Road, but not bad.

The pho came last. In actual fact, I believed our bowl of pho came before the spring rolls. However, it was served by the same guy who misplaced our buttered chicken wings. As a result, it was again placed swiftly, efficiently, silently...... but again - mistakenly - at the table behind us. This time I wasn't so amused by the same mistake committed by the same guy, especially when the customer started consuming it.


Again, the polite and more professional female waitress came and apologized to us and to the table behind us. When our bowl finally came, it was served by the same guy again......


This time round, he wasn't that efficient. In fact, he was standing next to our table, again, silently. I was wondering what the heck he was doing then I realized - he was expecting me to move the dishes away for him to place the pho down.
Needless to say, given this rude attitude, I did not oblige and just sat there as still as he was standing.
Finally, after some deafening silence, he moved one of the dishes away himself, silently and my (much kinder) wife helped him move the other dish away - I never said I was a nice guy.

Back to the pho: Some say "Pho" had it's origin in the Chinese "Fun". The rice noodles here really tasted like normal Ho Fan in Chinese cuisine and not the chewy thinner type. I'm OK with that as long as the broth was good. But unfortunately, it wasn't.


There is a world of difference between "light" aftertaste and "no" taste. There is also a world of difference between a properly made Vietnamese broth and a casually made one.

From what I understand from a Vietnamese cooking teacher, a Vietnamese broth takes almost two days to process. You have to make the stock with a lot of bones, usually cow or chicken, for about 10-15 hours and further process it to turn the murky broth into a consomme.
Only after the consomme was made then you place herbs on the noodle.

This was definitely not a beef consomme. I don't think it's a chicken consomme either - perhaps it was meant to be, but not enough time and effort and, crucially - bones, were put into the broth. It barely had any chicken taste. The herbs, coriander and mint, were all very fresh but that's what the broth tasted like only. The broth here tasted like lightly salted boiled water with mint and coriander o.


The meatball and Vietnamese sausage were normal stuff. Practically the same as the pork balls I had in any Ho Fun Shop. The Vietnamese sausage was nothing special either. The taste was slightly lighter than most Vietnamese restaurants I've tried in Kowloon City or at Nha Thrung. I've tried their other pho before, such as the "crab meat tomato" pho. That was not bad and tasted like crab meat and tomato! Come to think of it, the broth didn't have any taste either......

This, plus the service and price, dragged the points down to "Not Recommended" on my scale.

The chicken broth at "Nha thrung" 芽莊 (the Ocean Terminal branch) beats here every time and the chicken pho there is recommended. Not here. No bones in it.


Luckily, the preserved lemon soda (good for cooling "internal heat") and the lime soda cooled my temper, and internal heat, a bit.

雞翼一碟有六件,體型屬較大的種,賣相美觀,吃落亦不見太油膩,所以每人吃三隻也不覺漏
先說皮,上面有陣薄脆,富有蒜蓉和牛油香味,我一向少吃雞皮也忍不住吃了幾口,雞肉亦見嫰滑,啖啖肉,不失為一道好吃的前菜

我是個蝦片痴,即使是用來做燒乳鴿拌碟的蝦片,一塊都不會放過! 小時候,媽媽亦會在印尼食品專門店買蝦片給我吃
我對蝦片的要求很高,很多時越南菜中的蝦片菜色都忽略了它,吃來又腍又多油,所以我大都不會吃,今回試吃了第一塊,蝦片乾身香脆,蝦味濃郁
牛肉本身亦乾身不油膩,因此底下的蝦片亦沒有吸到油份
牛肉入口鮮嫰,略帶甜味,與蝦片一拼吃更顯出層次感

嫩牛肉餅先將牛肉打碎,然後再煎,入口牛味豐富,加入了少許胡椒,加添了刺激感覺,其餘的配料不多,調味料落得不重手,反而能夠彰顯出牛肉本身鮮味,只是稍嫌欠咬口,未能盡興

燒牛柳卷包著切碎了的紅蘿蔔和洋蔥,吃起來帶點清甜和洋蔥的香辣,與牛肉餅一樣,調味不重,換句話說,牛肉卷的味道就是源於牛肉本身的鮮味,加上紅蘿蔔和洋蔥,來得更自然,感覺清新健康
若牛肉切成幼絲,效果會更佳

越式沙侓不像西式般有澎湃的沙律醬來調味,而是只加入少許的甜酸醬汁,再加上青瓜絲,洋蔥絲等,味道清新,只嫌牛肉太大件,若切成絲,應該會更好
由於落了醋,吃起來沙律亦很濕潤,感覺不錯

金不換牛肉是最濃味的一款小菜,所用醬料就像中式的甜酸醬,但較稀身,並且加以蕃茄醬等材料製成,入口十分醒胃,肉的牛香和醬料融合得宜,沒有搶去各自的味道,味蕾盡受刺激,是一道十分醒胃之作
再加上面層的蒜片,味道更豐富,另外牛肉粒亦切成小正立方體,吃起來很鬆化易入口

吃過五款各有特色的併盆,已十分滿足,更十分期待其餘的兩款主菜

這道菜不見得太有特色,看落粥底較稠,仍吃到飯粒,而牛肉成細碎,份量不多
也吃不到太重的牛肉鮮香,心想,是因吃過五碟較濃味的牛併盆,用這道先為我們清一清味蕾?

最後一味是我們也有份兒烹調的生牛肉火鍋
店員先送上生牛肉,大大塊,份量亦很多,底部還有不少檬粉和洋蔥
未幾,店員再送上熱爐,任我們自行調較牛肉的生熟程度
這裡的牛肉的確有質素,熟後仍然保持到頗滿意的煙韌度,更甚者是牛肉味香濃,再加上爽口的檬粉和充滿口感的洋蒽,吃起來效果甚佳,真是值得一讚!

份量可不小,整個牛肉鍋可以分到五到六小碗份量,所以這個二人餐着實十分豐富,說是二人餐,可能是為兩位男仕而設的

整個全牛餐也只是二百多,用料不錯,創意十足,以這個見到海景的地點來用餐,價錢真的十分相宜,好牛者,或許這會給你一個另類的體驗
