鮎の姿寿司 -
Ayu (鮎 or 香魚) is normally eaten grilled, but when wild and very fresh versions are found can be made into a fish shaped sushi like here. The top of the Ayu fish has a fatty transparent layer which is interesting. Also famous for it's 'watermelon' or 'cucumber' like flavours in the fish meat, I think it was more of the latter this night as it had this refreshing always grass like flavour and aroma in the fish's flesh! This was a very good dish, and the sushi rice was cooked perfectly as well. Watch out for the little bones from the fins though... 9/10

宮崎 冷やし汁 -
A specialty from Miyazaki prefecture, this is a nice Summery cold rice dish. A chilled miso soup made with grinded fishes, pickles, myoga, tofu, red miso and thinly sliced cucumbers etc - is given to the customer for pouring onto a warm bed of white rice. This soup-rice is really summery refreshing and very appetising, and the miso cold soup has a bit of vinegar added to kick start that palate. Served with 高菜 pickles on the side. This was a lovely and addictive Kyushu specialty dish that is new on the menu.... 10/10

It's mostly simple and honest Izakaya fare.
Some dishes however are pricier than others, especially the ones on the Specials board... So I'm starting to order in a smarter way!

311後,幾個朋友好耐冇食日本嘢,忍唔住,去咗呢間食返餐。個菜牌列出每種剌身來源地,其實,只要係好食,新鮮,邊度來貨都OK。刺身叫左2種 ~ 池魚、另一種當日推介(白身魚) ~ 夠鮮味壽司 ~ 吞拿魚(普遍),好似係X政魚(好正) {唔記得抄低個名,因為由朋友發板}秋葵天婦羅 ~ 秋葵本身冇乜味,係食個種感覺,炸得不油,正。蛋燒豬扒 ~ 加咗"千島汁",太濃。牛肉薯仔沙律 ~ 薯仔味夠,有嚼頭,OK。牛蒡煮~ 牛蒡入味,正。燒飯糰 ~太大件(可能係Last order),,不過都燒得夠外脆。牛肉烏冬 ~ 烏冬滑,其實日本菜之中,最考心機係"煮"物,呢間水準都保持到。

不是因為不用付款, 是因為真的好滿意:1. 明太子玉子燒 (好好味! 不會散開)2. 淮山雜菜天婦羅 (覺得有點油, 但不太嚴重. 最滿意那個薑天婦羅, 因為是子薑, 所以不太辣, 不吃辣也可以接受, 形狀好特別, 一條的, 不是片狀的.) 3. 泡菜豬肉火鍋 (味道非常好! 泡菜與豬肉的味道都恰到好處, 誰也搶不了誰的味道)4. 手卷 (不太特別, 當然是新鮮啦!)

I remember being here more than 10-12 years ago and decided to give it a go again.I believe they serve cuisine from the Kyushu area, which includes a large number of cooked and marinated dishes not found in most Japanese restaurants. I remember being here more than 10-12 years ago and decided to give it a go again.

I believe they serve cuisine from the Kyushu area, which includes a large number of cooked and marinated dishes not found in most Japanese restaurants. The flavour is on the strong side.

The menu is pretty extensive. They serve sushi, sashimi, tempura, skewers (yakitori), kushi, udon/soba, ochatsuke, vegetable dishes and assorted snacks/appetizers good with beer and sake. All at very reasonable price.


The tempura was good, the seafood (scallop) was fresh, the marinated vegetable mix (can’t remember the name) was very good. Yakitori was ok.


Brighter and more open than most Izakaya. Rather busy (can get a bit noisy at times). Good for groups too.

Friendly service.

I also tried a “Miso Rice” (not the exact name) – a very interesting cold dish where you have a bowl of thick miso with freshly chopped cucumber, tofu and other vegetables. You then add Japanese rice into that mixture. Sounds a bit weird but the taste is very refreshing. The miso must be of pretty good quality and the rice filled with flavor.


Simple but good “farmhouse” dishes; certainly authentic and nostalgic.

Bad Friday,約了專業人士在尖沙咀晚飯,對方想吃日本菜,想起了美麗華商場的元氣一杯,這也是我當年在尖沙咀工作時喜愛去的食肆之一。有著日本師傅、日本人樓面、八成以上的日本客,在這個地方晚膳,彷如置身日本,亦可以肯定食物是地道正宗的。坐低,服務生先奉上前菜,是火腿絲、紅蘿蔔絲和通菜等,通菜幾爽脆,總的感覺清爽,三扒兩撥便清碟,或許是自己太肚餓了。燒物、煮物、壽司、冷麵等各點了一些。先說煮物,是豚角煮,幾件五花腩配上甜美濃郁的醬汁,味道很好,肥肉部份甘香豐腴,唯瘦肉部份稍稍韌了一點,否則會是更好。對方想吃壽司,來一客六件的壽司拼盤,本人試了鯖魚、池魚和拖羅三款,前兩者爽脆,拖羅滿有魚味,飯糰握得實在,味道也不錯,收貨有餘。也要了燒飯糰,燒得金黃色的,很是吸引。外面燒得香脆,裡頭亦不會鬆鬆散散咁,質地是可以,不過米飯本身沒有任何味道。又有壽司又有飯糰,那就不再叫米飯,要一客冷蕎麥麵。清爽的蕎麥麵,夠晒冰凍,又有咬口,加上生鵪鶉蛋,更加鮮美。再配上蔥花,大啖啜吮,是非常的好吃。最後是陶板燒和牛,牛肉切粒,燒至半熟後再塗上生雞蛋,可以吃了。肉質是軟滑,可是味道偏淡口,尚未算最好。埋單五百五

This has got to be one of the most authentic Japanese restaurants I have been to in Hong Kong.As soon as the five of us set down, the waitress recommended the sake of the month. We were planning to get sake anyway and so we decided to take her recommendation. We then ordered numerous 串燒 and a whole lot of other dishes:

雞軟骨, 雞件+蔥, 牛脷, 帶子, 冬菇, 煙肉鵪鶉蛋 (and some others I have forgotten lol...) - all of these are really tasty

明太子燒玉子 - without a doubt my favorite dish of the night

Sukiyaki - all of the ingredients were fresh and of good quality

芝士和牛漢堡 - a bit pricey ($120) but definitely worth trying; my other favorite of the night!

炸雞件 - the chicken was really juicy and well marinated

I will definitely go back for more authentic Japanese food!

日本居酒屋係點??有好多大枝裝0既清酒做牆紙,再有d木製椅桌,瓷造器皿.餐牌用日文(最近附有中文餐牌的都很多),還有食物都很精緻,新鮮....

是日晚餐:-
元気一杯サラダ>> 起初以為是sashimi salad,來到先知係noodles.仲擔心唔好味添~點知小妹很高興,仲同我講0左3次係用蛋黃來做salad醬添~有意粉,螺絲粉,仲有一個薯仔沙律組合而成.
寿司盛り合わせ10品>> 壽司種類很多,為免兩個中都未叫好野食,我地決定點個10件壽司set.小妹同我都唔食納豆,waitress壽司會是廚司投其所好做成,所有都係高級材料喎.
除了10件set,仲有6件set,2件set,單品,手卷,軍艦等等,食物品種都好多.
10之中最欣賞一定係toro,雖然變成了免治,不過叫到小妹食得咁幸福,值得!
日式の餃子>> 小妹話呢款同平時唔同,個底冇一塊燶既皮痴埋一齊喎.我同佢講,正宗煎餃子就係佢所講果種,而今次食既係一粒粒分開的,望落似蒸.
裡面都有肉汁,點完醋都唔會搶0左肉味.
日本和牛メンチ>> 用和牛來做可樂餅,咁高級都係第一次咋!一上店就馬上食,唔算油,但就熱到咩味都食唔出.第2件隔了大約10mins食,油開始滲出,不過就好明顯食到牛肉味.係咪和牛就唔知,但價錢真係貴了點.
焼き物>> 其實我同小妹都飽左9成,不過唔食過燒物唔似入過居酒屋.點了雞翼同雞軟骨,加了強勁檸檬汁,好好味!!

今次因為有食500元減100元的優惠卡,即係話我地可以品嚐多100元既食物呢~

記住留意,前菜唔食都要位位20蚊架!!

As I mentioned last time, some of my friends were not entirely happy with their Meals here despite repetitive visits: They label it as too expensive for an izakaya eating joint, together with its mediocre execution and consider it culinarily unchallenging! On a Personal matter however, over the last few visits I'm starting to like this place more and more, as some of the Kyushu style dishes here are kinda unique in the local market, albeit always very oily and strongish and my friends are righ

As I mentioned last time, some of my friends were not entirely happy with their Meals here despite repetitive visits: They label it as too expensive for an izakaya eating joint, together with its mediocre execution and consider it culinarily unchallenging! On a Personal matter however, over the last few visits I'm starting to like this place more and more, as some of the Kyushu style dishes here are kinda unique in the local market, albeit always very oily and strongish and my friends are right that the dishes here aren't always prepared well. (I heard the chef here is infact from Osaka rather than Kyushu, although they 主打 - 九州&宮崎 dishes).

Here's a summary of some dishes we've tried and I'll submit the photos and be brief rather than go into the details. Some dishes which 'I' enjoyed are the エシャレット金山寺味噌 (Shallots with Barley Wasabi Miso), the soy-based cooked 吉備奈子 was better than the Grilled version we had on a separate night, this being a sought after fish delicacy during only Summer and has a much narrower frame of availability than the much more popular 鮎. The 筑前煮 with greens and root vegetables is always welcome and enjoyable but surprisingly not always available locally except 2-3 shops.

The signature 南蛮Chicken as usual is ultra oily and same goes with almost all their fried dishes here, with 赤豚Pork Katsu being full of oil. I would rather order their Full Tonkatsu version which is oily but really very excellent and a Must Try! The Grilled Ox Tongue as usual isn't good at all in this shop, its chewy and doesn't carry the desired Tongue oiliness and char-grilled flavouring. The home-made Tsukune Chicken however with diagonal slits is really enjoyable and unlike most traditional shops, done with Salt instead of the Smoky Teriyaki sauce though could do with a bit more on the grilling side.

The $288 Sashimi Platter of 5 Varieties we got on 1 occasion was noticeably prepared by the Head-Chef and unlike my previous horrendous experience with their very below-average sushi's 'twice', was for once cut really cleanly and professional, and quite fresh! The かます with the thickish skin is another delicacy only served briefly during Summer but mostly missed by local eaters due to its short time frame, but this brings another point.... In Japan, no one really orders Nigiri Sushi's in Izakaya's as its almost a taboo - most customers only order お造り Sashimi's as part of the grander dining, plus most non-specialised izakaya shops aren't willing to prepare Nigiri Sushi's unless they have trained sushi chefs - this type of mentality is also seen in local shops such as '道’, who consider Nigiri Sushi's to be another professional item. Respect! In Hong Kong however, I normally buck the trend and so do the Japanese owners, because Nigiri Sushi's are often on the menu to cater for the Hong Kong customers.

And here's where the Catch-22 scenario comes in.
Most Sashimi Platters offered on default in Hong Kong are 'localised', and often carry a Snapper, a Tuna, a Yellowtail (Hamachi or Hiramasa) and a Salmon. That's 4 out of 5 fishes already. Eerrr... READ: very boring. Even though I do like these Salmon or Tuna or Yellowtail or Snapper fishes on separate occasions, I just DO NOT WANT THEM during certain occasions! That's because its what Hong Kong customers normally crave and expect, so their wishes have been granted by the localised Japanese chefs! Personally however, we already anticipated this to be the case more often than not, therefore our group usually tend to order our own set of selected Nigiri Sushis when available, as we at least get to choose our own 'preferred' shellfishes and seasonal fishes in small portions. We could obviously order our own 'singular' sashimi fish and concentrate on say a Kamasu or a summery Sanma or an Aji, but they're often quite expensive and in small dining groups we don't want to eat only 1 type of fish as sashimi, as we're greedy eaters committing a gluttony sin.

OVERALL - I do enjoy this shop more than before but just wished that they could make 90% of the dishes good-to-great rather than us needing to do guess work, only to get half the food in the excellent category whilst the rest are ho-hum or even below average.

The prices of the dishes here always fluctuate quite a bit. They had a $100 discount offer during July and in the middle of the campaign, the original menu prices were marked up a bit artificially, but nowadays its come back down again and more affordable than ever - which is a good gesture by the shop!

FOOD RATING '3' - '5', SOME IN THE '2' RANGE, DEPENDING ON DISH ORDERED.

An amalgamation of 2 lunch visits. The last time I reviewed a Dinner experience here, I could not help but give it a big crying face. Friend X who came with me was so distressed to share an exorbitant bill for mediocre quality and quantity of food, he's been whingeing for a few months - he still wasn't convinced after a 2nd dinner later. You would be too if you witnessed what we went through the 1st time before parting with nearly $900. Pity I have no photos to remind you of that meal but here's some hints: a Winter Oden for $120 with 5 pieces of ordinary minced morsels and daikon, not even a 福袋 in sight, or ordered upon the staff's insistence and recommendation, so called Air Freighted Freshly Shucked Akagai and 寒鰤 nigiri, costing $100 and $80 respectively, totalling only 4 pieces of nigiri - the Akagai shellfish was so small it exposed the shari on both ends, the rice also sludgy and squarish & could compete head-on with Smashing Pumpkin's 'sweet prawn' sushi at 明將迴轉壽司. We were already down $300 + 10% for nothing, and that wasn't the end of our woes.


I was first introduced to this Kyushu-Style Izakaya by a separate, Friend Y ,a couple of years ago already, he who's been eating and working in the area for so many years he could write a guide on Japanese food in TST. He is the same person who'd referred me to try 五味鳥 but told me to not to have expectations, or that 吉田舍料理 has really bad service, also introduced me to somewhat fun places like 筍菜富, 桜, 鮨徳, KENJO, HIRO, IROHA, etc. and together we have visited many Jap shops in the area and beyond. So 1 day when Y insists I come try Genki Ippai's set lunches again and he thinks the shop serves one of the best Tonkatsu pork chops, as well as Higawari bentos, I think I ought to believe him despite what happened last meal.

7.5/10 Nori Taru-Taru Bento $70 -
One unique Genki Ippai signature dish is a deep-fried 宮崎 'Chicken 南蛮' that's moistened with a sauce afterwards, with Kyushu being the home of many famous Chicken Dishes that rivals its equally unique Pork-based ones. In a Nori Taru-Taru Lunch Box, I would receive some seafood instead of only chicken. The cooking method is 80% similar to the Chicken 南蛮, itself a variation of 竜田揚げ. Its then topped with tangy and eggy Japanese Tartare Sauce. Underneath, Japanese pearl rice is partitioned by Seaweed slices and sweetish pickles, hence the Nori title. Its very oily for a lunch but the 紅生姜, Shredded Eggs and Pickles help counter that slightly. Kyushu food really is very strong and oily in general, as not only are they eaten with Shochu (焼酎), they're usually cooked by chefs drinking 焼酎 whilst cooking. Everyone gets drunk regularly in Kyushu, girls or guys - the only alcoholic problem there is if someone doesn't drink!


Tonkatsu Set $95 -
Y's recommended Fried Pork dish, made from 伊達赤豚, an expensive red pork breed and great value for money here @ $95 for a decent sized set. If you buy this as raw meat yourself, its already around the same price without factoring in rice and sides in the set! The Panko Batter was definitely over-the-top 'Oily' on 4 successive occasions I re-ordered this, the loin muscles carry chunks of fat both within and along the back side rather than interlaced strands - its not as evenly marbled like 黒豚. Nevertheless both boast that they have 'healthy fats' if you believe in marketers! This Tonkatsu was very oily both inside and outside but also the most juicy Tonkatsu I've ever experienced - its full of pork and pork oil flavour. I highly recommend this provided you're able to enjoy having your mouth coated with oil and fat. As a comparison, I believe 大戸屋 has the best longish diagonal 'pointy' batters but on dry pork cutlets, 石山 has a slightly more balanced 黒豚 Tonkatsu yet that's sometimes too thin, whereas とん吉 is somewhere in between all of these but without much pork flavour. None seems to be perfect somehow so this would 'relatively rate' as HK's Equal 1st?


Higawari Set Bento $60 -
Higawari is 日替 constantly rotated, sometimes with more than 1 option in other restaurants. Its a very AUTHENTIC way of eating Business Lunches in Japan and the rice is usually refillable until you're full, same applies here with all meals!!! My 日替 that day: fried Aubergine with thickened stock, some coleslaw with spaghetti, a piece of grilled Saba, plus very lean Salmon Sashimi. The Salmon Sashimi is very localised and too lean nor fresh enough to be impressive, the aubergine was very oily yet bland. The Salt-grilled Saba was cooked in large batches - it was very dry and firm. The salad wasn't even edible.
You might think I wasn't entirely happy with any part of this Higawari Bento but that's not the point?? - Quick business lunches under 750-1050 Yen are nearly always of this low to mediocre quality even in Japan, because they're cheap and they're mass produced in most Izakayas to suit the billions of business workers who are all replicatedly dressed like Neo in The Matrix.
Its only to keep their day's stamina going and if you want better, you need to go to better places and pay substantially more. If you think this is bad, there are always worst ! Think of self-selected from shelves then microwave-reheated dishes, even in a restaurant or stone cold Bentos (which are actually 'nicer' somehow though!)

YET AS MY 日替わり EXAMPLE SHOWED, ITS ALL RELATIVE TO THE PRICE POINT AND MONEY SPENT. YOU WON'T PRE-FORM AN UNFULFILLABLE EXPECTATION WHEN EATING a $50-$100 LUNCH IN MID-CLASS 居酒屋 OR IN HONG KONG 茶餐聽's.

IN THIS SENSE, LUNCH QUALITY HERE DEFINITELY DESERVES A '3' or '4'.


BUT WHAT HAPPENS AND HOW DO YOU RATE FAIRLY, WHEN YOU RECEIVE SIMILAR QUALITY FOOD AT NIGHT TIME BUT COSTING A FEW TIMES MORE? MY VARIOUS FRIENDS' RESPONSES CERTAINLY DON'T MAKE IT ANY EASIER. I AM STILL CONTEMPLATING OVER THE DILEMMA FOR MY NEXT DINNER REVIEW.

繼續去尋覓尖咀區內的日式午飯定食,這次來到美麗華商場內的老字號"元氣一杯"。事前先做做功課,看到食友們的評論及相關照片,很是不俗,而且又不算很貴,最便宜五至六十大洋已可有交易。近排吃得多棉登徑一帶的小店,是時侯轉一轉目的地也....裝飾格局是很居酒屋的,心想會不會吃下酒小菜好一些呢 ? 但午市時候,能提供的選擇亦只是一系列的午市定食。來到這類居酒屋的地方,感覺上好像叫一些類似漢堡扒或韭菜炒豬肝的東西會適合一點,但從餐牌上看到有雜錦魚生飯,登時想起了上次在石亭吃到的那個三色丼,不停的在吞口水,於是也就樂於改變主意叫一份來以解相思之苦。太太看見那魚生飯,當然也在吞口水但此際她要戒絕所有生的食物,唯有只能吃一份熟的紫菜揚物便當來解解嚵啦...在吃飯之先,循例先解決所有的前菜小吃。薯仔沙律的口感很細滑,加入了帶鹹的煙肉粒令感覺不會過份單調,不俗;茶碗蒸的料頭雖很例牌但甚豐,有冬菇、日式魚蛋片及吞拿魚粒,作為主角的蛋蒸得夠滑而不太老,但味是淡了一些;醃蘿蔔絲不是太甜,但卻是雪得凍冰冰的,感覺很是奇怪.....前菜不算太差,但那魚生飯倒是讓人有些失望了。飯粒跟在石亭吃的是一樣,已預先用微甜的豉油調

前菜不算太差,但那魚生飯倒是讓人有些失望了。飯粒跟在石亭吃的是一樣,已預先用微甜的豉油調過味,望落有少許光澤,吃落帶點黏性,是還可以的;不過最最失策的是那些魚生的水準 --- 先看到人造蟹柳已不大對路,雖然上次在石亭的三色丼亦有蟹柳作墊底,但論到魚生新鮮程度,這兒的就差了幾條街矣
鯛是帶有筋的,而且帶有腥氣,新鮮貨是絕不會這樣子的
,蝦也是鮮味欠奉,而且亦雪得硬硬的,很難入口;魚子是偏小粒的,一咬之下吃到的只是鹹味,鮮卻可是不太感受得到
。看到三文魚本想馬上作勢罵人,但是日吃到的應是在肚腩邊位置少有的harasu,吃落魚油十足,肥美得很,即時尤如喝了杯二十四味一般,下了火
....
試了幾件炸物,覺得粉漿不算太厚,炸得色水微微偏黃,入口不太油,算是合格的炸物。配料尤以蝦最出色,很鮮甜 (跟在魚生飯吃到的剛好相反,實是奇哉怪也
)....
所以說,來這一類居酒屋的地方(特別是在香港),吃熟食總是較穩妥的。要吃壽司刺身,還是到如伊藤、見城或Sodeyama一類的小店吧....

好辛苦才走到出來,要找些吃打發心情補充元氣,每當想靜靜的吃,又不期然想坐到日本餐廳吧檯,將專注力投放在師傅身上,心情也會好過些。甫坐下,也懶得去想吃什麼,同身邊幾位日本人一樣,叫日替就好了,另外多加廿元要了納豆山芋。吧檯上大師傅帶著兩位後生師傅,壽司吧上清一式放著日替和盒子,待客落單,師傅就細心的將材料放入盒子,忙得不可開交的飯市,十餘個盒子陣遠看其實幾壯觀的。先來杯熱茶,再抹抹手,很快有得吃。先吃納豆山芋,將兩味健康小品撈埋,下醬油,納豆獨特的香與黏稠山芋放在熱飯上,已能獨立成文,是好簡單又美味的午餐。再吃薯仔沙律,薯仔蓉加入雜菜,伴上沙律汁,是個人很喜歡吃的一味日式沙律,這裡做得好吃,如果好似櫻那邊,吃到帶有薯仔粒的做法,就更開心。然後是炸忌廉蟹餅,香軟忌廉與滑身蟹肉幾是都是個好配搭,又有些微蔥粒提味,外層酥香麵包糠炸得夠脆,再加上甜甜酸酸的日式照燒汁,確實美味。吃完幾款小吃,最有興趣是日式的辣汁煮魚頭,用的是帶有硬骨的三文魚頭,鮫位的位置連著膠質,軟腍美味,三文魚本身腥(又或者說是它本身的魚油味道),以醬油為主辣為副的做法去腥亦令魚更好吃。三文魚刺身,無可無不可的吃過,不很差就是

三文魚刺身,無可無不可的吃過,不很差就是了。湯是麵豉湯,有麵豉的香,亦有日本菠菜的甜味,很好。埋單百元有找,是吃得回價值的一餐,補充了元氣又能多看一點,帶著滿意的心情步出小店!

Sushi fish and arkshell were so small but around $80-100 for 2 pieces Nigiri each - the quality wasn't too good either, rice was too warm. But the size was like half the size of a normal sushi. Very over-rated.

Other things were quite normal, the taste is as expected of those in an Izakaya, but the prices were too expensive. Expect around $450 per person. seriously not worth the money in my opinion.

Oh and they missed our initial orders completely.

男朋友同我食開年飯, 揀左呢間, 見到好多日本人食, 想必是幾正宗吧.坐下揀了支清酒, 幾香醇, 價錢適中. 餐牌有些是中日文對照, 有些是全日文的. 店員介紹好多新鮮由日本運到的食物, 又有好多季節性食品. 最後選了好特別的刺身, 鰤魚刺身. 另外點了燒鯖魚, 蝦天婦羅, 清酒煮蜆, 青椒串, 薯仔牛肉.特別一提餐前小食, 名子叫 "素之子", 味道似日本魚子, 爽口, 有些夾了昆布, 很特別. 鰤魚刺身似油甘魚, 但無咁肥, 但很清甜. 鯖魚燒得很香. 蜆都不錯, 不過清酒味少了點. 薯仔牛肉好入味, 天婦羅好新鮮香脆. 青椒串比其他店燒得無咁燶, 十分好.地方坐得舒服, 食物很新鮮, 價錢合理, 值得推介.
