Before I begin with its problems, perhaps I should start with the good. The food is actually quite good. The warmth and taste were above standard, and the extra step to spice up the tea is very warming. We had the 酸菜桂花魚 along with some snacks and sides. All were to par. The only suggestion I would make regarding the skewers (串燒) would be to add less cumin so that the original taste of eel and beef aren’t smothered.
Now. The problem I really have with this restaurant is its system. We tried to order more noodles for our pot, only to be told we could not do that. Not only could we not add extra food for our pot, we were told the only option is to order ANOTHER pot to get the additional ingredients we wanted. Little did I know that I was speaking to the so-called Restaurant Manager (?). His ridiculously rude attitude was nothing compared to his reasoning for why we couldn’t order more ingredients. He scoffed at me, proclaiming “我地唔可以咁叫㗎, 如果個個客人都咁樣叫 我地點做?” Seriously. Why create a menu for people to select their additional ingredients if the additional ingredients can only be ordered at the start? Furthermore, if there WAS such a policy, why not notify the customers when they order? I would have definitely ordered more if I knew. How is that different from limiting me to ordering only once?
Either way. With this kind of mindset serving customers, I would be very concerned for the owners. To have a manager at the helm of a restaurant only thinking of how to minimize workload, it’s hard to have a restaurant that would thrive.
I pray and hope that this can change, cause the potential of this restaurant is very rich.
