Crystal Jade La Mian Xiao Long Bao is one of the most popular chain stores serving excellent quality Shanghai (and a little variety of Sichuan) cuisine in Hong Kong. I recommend this restaurant to locals and tourists because most Crystal Jade restaurants are located at convenient spots (mostly shopping malls) and serves an authentic Shanghainese taste.I have had countless Shanghai food around Hong Kong, but I have to say, this particular restaurant at Harbour City truly makes me feel like I am
I have had countless Shanghai food around Hong Kong, but I have to say, this particular restaurant at Harbour City truly makes me feel like I am underpaying for such good quality food! It was packed on a Monday night at 7pm and after a 15 minute wait we were efficiently led to a table. Staff were highly experienced and kept a very light and good attitude throughout.
Out of the many dishes we ordered, I MUST highlight the Xiao Long Bao and the Dan Dan Noodle.

The Xiao Long Bao is a popular dim sum in Chinese cuisine. Minced pork and succulent juices of the pork is locked inside of the very thin and slightly chewy dumpling wrapper. This was served steaming hot and the ratio of pork and wrapper was perfect, every bite of it was satisfying. To enjoy it, you must first dip it in the zhenjiang vinegar and place it on your spoon, you then bite to tear a small slit just enough to let the juices seep out and for you to sip it, and finally to savour the rest of the dumpling.

Dan Dan Noodle is very famous in Shanghai food. The soup base is usually a mixture of peanut butter paste with chilli sauce and minced pork, usually a rich soup base. At Crystal Jade, the noodles are handmade, the texture is chewy and not soggy. The soup base is cooked to that perfect taste which is very hard to grasp, and I must say, Crystal Jade has nailed it completely.

This is a traditional cold appetiser which basically takes many hours to prepare. The jelly like element is basically the goodness and essence of pork after being refrigerated. Despite the taste being good, the texture is not as I had hoped it to be, and did not have that melting effect with the jelly in your mouth.

The cabbage did not taste bland at all because the strong flavour from the ham was able to steep into the very finely sliced cabbage. The way the cabbage was cut also made the plating better and easier to get hold of. Not bad but preferred the sauce to be less gooey (probably a bit too much corn starch in my opinion).
Overall a must try restaurant, with my top picks being Xiao Long Bao and the Dan Dan Noodle!
