This shop did not disappoint.

The restaurant really made it easy for customers to order their signature yakitoris by having two dinner courses to choose from, namely, the simply named yet effective: 11 skewer set, and the equally concise: 12 skewer set. Priced at HK$300 and HK$330 respectively, accompanied by a simple vegetable salad, miso soup, Japanese rice and preserved vegetables.

A quick look at the simple menu confirmed that the set was indeed a bit, and I stress just a little bit, more value for money (about 8% cheaper with a salad, a bowl of rice, miso soup and a little bit of preserved vegetables).

The menu had some cold appetizers, many traditional cold dishes, a lot of yakitori (which was the main theme of the restaurant), some rice bowls (dons), a full page of alcohol and some udon and soba.

We ordered a 12 skewer set, other a la carte skewers, as well as a kawaponzu.

First came the salad and some beans. The salad was a standard vegetable salad with some Japanese vinegar dressing. The beans were marinated with white miso as well as a bit of pork. It's quite sweet and the taste was quite interesting. What's noteworthy was the plate of grated turnip placed next to the bean. So far, this is the only yakitori shop which I know served grated turnip.


The purpose of the grated turnip is for you to eat it together with the yakitori. Somewhat similar to the function of the grated turnip with the tempura, so it would be less hard on your throat the next day as it "reduces heat". A very good idea indeed.

Then came the kawaponzu, which means chicken skin marinated in Japanese vinegar served with spring onion. It's about $40 or $50. The quantity was really small. It's refreshing but overpriced.


Then came the negima, which meant chicken meat grilled with leek. A typical Japanese Izakaya dish which could easily be overcooked and is perhaps not such an easy dish to do well, despite its simple appearance. The negima here was done very nicely.
The chicken was tender and juicy and matched well with the slightly crispy leek:

The cheese shyudo, like other dishes meant to accompany beer, sake or sochu, was quite small and quite expensive.

The shishito, that is, green chilli pepper, was quite nice. Average standard so nothing to complaint about. By the way, I'd recommend ordering a shishito whenever you're having yakitori or a lot of fried food as it also helps to reduce your "body heat" according to Chinese medicine theory so you wouldn't have headaches or sore throat...etc. afterwards.


The piman, green bell pepper, was quite good. It was quite sweet and juicy. What distinguished the piman here from other yakitori shops was that they grilled it together with quite a lot of salt and as a result, it was quite refreshing. The sea salt mixed well with the liquorish taste of the piman.

The Negi, "Leek", was part of the dinner set and was perhaps served to stimulate the taste buds a bit ? I wouldn't go out of my way to order it though:

The chicken kidney was a bit tough. The chicken heart was excellent. The heart was a bit small compared to what I sometimes have. The good point about the chicken hearts here were that they were completely cleaned and marinated so it tasted fresh as well.

The Pork Belly was pretty good. The pork belly had the right balance of fat and meat. The timing was good so it was crispy but not dried.

All these vegetables were nothing to complaint about. The onions was a bit oily though. When it comes to grilled vegetables, like shishito, piman, onions, garlic, sweet corn...etc., I find the yakitori shop "Jun" a lot better than most yakitori shops. The chicken kidney at Jun is also better.

I am quite a fan of Bonjiri, "Chicken tail". Some may find it a bit fat but it feels like a fatter version of grilled pork cheek. Not many yakitori shops could do it well. The important point about bonjiri is to make sure it's grilled a bit longer than other chicken parts in order to reduce the excess fat and to make it crispier. It was nice and crispy here.


Then came the tsukune:

This was apparently the signature dish of this restaurant. You could notice from the "antique" wooden menus hanging on the wall. The tsukune was "当店自慢" - which means "the shop's proud offering". I am a great fan of tsukune and I expect quite a lot from a restaurant. This was well done. The minced chicken meat must have been from a very good source. It had a very strong "chicken" taste, i.e. fresh. I believe the meat was a bit marinated in mirin, the Japanese sweet marination, and possibly with a bit of sake as well.


There were chicken cartilage inside. The chicken cartilage was just the right texture - not too hard nor too soft. Just crunchy enough to enhance the overall texture of the whole tsukune.


Definitely one of the best I've had, whether compared with those I had in Japan or in Hong Kong. Highly recommended.

The Shiso Maki was not bad either. It was a bit of Shiso leaf wrapped with minced chicken meat. Both components were just as important. The Shiso leaf, which was a bit tangy, matched well with the slightly sweet (possibly also mirin marinated) mince chicken. This is also worth a try.


Since the chicken in this shop was of very good quality, we could not help but ordered another minced chicken themed dish. This time we ordered a minced chicken ball nabe. (I can't remember the Japanese name.). The cuttlefish which the other table ordered also looked good so we also ordered it as well.

The cuttlefish was standard stuff. It was slightly tough. Nothing special.

The soup base of the nabe was standard dashi, fish broth. However, the minced chicken balls were nice and tender. It had a fresh chicken taste as well. Some chopped onions and pepper were also mixed into the chicken balls. At about $68 per pot, it's quite reasonable given the quality. This is also recommended.


To celebrate such a good meal, I've ordered a glass of sake - kubota senjyu (HK$90):

That's the way I like it. This is called a masu cup. The waitress poured the sake in front of the customer until the sake glass inside the masu was completely filled up and then let it overflow.

We've ordered three glasses of sochu and two draught beer (one Asahi and one Tsing Tao) for the night.

Conclusion:

The interior of the shop was a bit dated, like most Japanese restaurants in the TST East area. There was one or two fruit flies flying around at the end of the dinner and I suggest the shop get rid of those as soon as possible.

Nevertheless, the restaurant had a very comfortable and calm ambiance. The tables were placed wide apart. Most tables could see the streets of TST East as well. The counter seats were suitable for single diners as well. The ceiling was high and the ventilation was very good. It wasn't smokey at all despite the chefs constantly grilling something.

The staff and the chefs were all very friendly and polite. They were very attentive and most of them could speak Japanese and Cantonese. Even the Japanese boss, who was the main chef, seemed to be able to utter a few words in Cantonese.


The bill came down to about HK$500 per person (drinks inclusive). If you're not into drinking - not a lot anyway, you could get a very decent yakitori meal at about HK$330. All in all, other than the over priced dishes used to accompany alcohol, the chicken dishes were all reasonably priced and of great quality.

I'll return here again and again.

Highly recommended.

除了佐酒小食偏貴外,價錢合理.

環境有點陳舊但坐得舒服,闊絡,又有街景.通風造得很好,幾乎完全沒有油煙味.

無論大廚及侍應都熱情有禮.

題外話/補充資料: If you like the tsukune, the bamboo minced chicken meat served at "Jinya", Mong Kok, was also very good, to my utter surprise. The tsukune at Hataka dojo is not as good but close (it's not consistent enough).

前陣子當我在OPENRICE上想找個好地方跟老公撐枱腳時, 無意中找到了這間燒鳥小店. 看看價錢, 再看看食評, 手就己經不其然在撥電話預約了.

這間小店雖身處尖沙咀富豪酒店內, 但卻並非其下餐廳之一. 小店主人兼師傳是已來港22年的日本人, 這店一直在同一個地址經營了17年之久. 店內的裝修很簡僕--說穿了是有點舊--但卻把這店的歷史不言而喻. 門口放了日文雜誌跟報紙, 店內牆上都貼上了日語的推介菜式, 如果不是看到香港客人, 真很有一點身在日本的錯覺.

好了, 是時候入正題, 介紹菜式了.

我們學習日本人, 坐下來先點了兩杯生啤, 再加一個送酒的芥辣魷魚, 很正宗的味道, 只是份量少了點.

接下來就是一連串的串燒:

燒唐茄: 師傳很有功架, 吃起來是剛剛好, 外表燒得很香, 但又不會完全燒走水份, 咬在口中還是很有蔬菜應有的水嫩感.

免治雞肉腸: 本店的招牌菜, 由我們坐進來一刻開始就見到師傳一直燒不停, 我們也忍不住翻點了一遍. 質感很適中, 不太遠也不太硬, 本人雖覺得雞軟骨可再多加一點, 因為比較有咬口, 但客觀來說這個比例其實很好. 外面所塗的醬汁應是店主秘製, 很香濃但不會搶走了本身的味道. 很多燒鳥店的免治雞肉腸都沒有生雞蛋, 但其實香濃的蛋汁正有畫龍點精之效, 加分!

紫蘚雞肉卷: 紫蘇葉的獨特香味和雞肉很相配, 沒有分誰主誰僕, 總之缺一不可.

露箏豬肉卷: 本人雖很喜愛露箏, 但大部份的燒鳥店要不就把豬肉燒很太乾, 要不就是太肥, 又或是露箏淡而無味. 但這裡另我對它改觀了. 豬肉燒得香香脆脆的, 很討好, 露箏跟唐茄一樣, 還保留蔬菜應有的水嫩感.

雞腎: 雞腎反而是最平平無其旳, 有點乾, 但不夠鹽味, 但幸好有七味粉補上, 挽回一點分數.

醋雞皮: 香港很難吃得到, 酸酸的味道很適合中場休息時伴酒吃, 雞皮很有咬口, 沒有一絲油份, 再加上葱絲, 實在很能為口腔清新一下, 再為下半場舖路.

雞軟骨: 這是另一道翻點了的菜. 普遍街外吃的燒雞軟骨都有一個通病, 就是很乾. 乾得像吃柴皮. 但這裡燒得火喉剛好, 很有燒烤的口感之餘內裡又不失柔軟. 推介!!

紫菜納豆卷: 納豆很好味, 但由於本身味道很強, 經過燒烤的紫菜還是被它蓋過了,

燒鯖魚: 其實燒得不錯, 可能是火喉很好, 所以在風味方面是沒有問題的, 反而是魚味好像不很夠, 相比起串燒又有點失色了.

薯仔絲沙律: 本店另一招牌菜, 把切得極糼的薯仔絲炸香了, 伴上新鮮的生菜, 青瓜和蕃茄, 一切就變得很完美了. 蔬菜去掉了炸薯仔的油膩感, 兩者配襯起來的口感很清新. 我們本來沒有點, 但見很多客人也點了所以飽也要試一試, 果然不負所望!

是晚除了啤酒以外再加上兩支300ML的八海山, 真的明付其實的飲飽食醉了!

總括來說, 個人認為這裡很有日本本格的燒鳥口味, 師傳火喉控製出色, 實在很值得一去再去!

要提醒一下各位的是本店是純燒鳥店, 所以魚生壽司一律欠奉. 但也許正是這份專注, 才能做出如此出色的佳肴!

呢日中午同老闆係尖咀見完客,順便就地食埋lunch了.老闆帶左我去一富豪酒店入面一家好似好隱蔽既居食屋.門口好似好靜,點知一入到去,就好似去左日本一樣! 牆上面貼滿日文推介菜式,入面既全部都係日本人係度食飯,有單拖西裝友,有一堆堆著哂日本公司風褸既,各有不同.唯一其通點就係: 全部都係日本男人. 連店老闆都係日本男人. 唔講唔知原來呢間居酒屋都有十幾年歷史.好彩入面有2-3個阿姐係識中文.午餐全部都係好日式既定食, 有親子蓋飯,炸豬排飯...等等. 我老闆推介漢堡扒定食係最正, 咁當然要點來試下了.漢堡扒定食一來當然最重要係試下佢既白飯有冇日本咁好食啦. 食落雖然都係冇係日本食個d珍珠米咁飽滿咁甘香, 但都有8成似, 比出面好多既日式餐廳好食多了. 主角漢堡扒好厚好鬆軟,肉質偏乾左少少,不過配埋佢既醬汁就剛剛好,味道濃郁.配菜既蕃茄好新鮮好多汁wor,生菜絲也十分不錯.飯後個熱咖啡細細杯,濃濃既咖啡甘香,飲完成個人都精神哂~雖然我老闆說今次既漢堡扒比佢以前食既水準下降左, 不過自己感覺好滿足. 因為除左食物好有日本風味,成間居酒屋既氣氛都好有濃厚日式感覺,令我好似重返日本一樣.

一間很地道的串串店,一點也不像酒店日本餐廳。但沒所謂,好吃就得。燒鳥選擇多,差不多成隻雞都燒得,但我們只吃雞肉,雞翅,同軟骨。所有串串都燒得好好,又香又juicy燒雞翼最好味,正!還有是,出奇的扺食。

This is one of my husband and my favourite "dating" restaurants. The restaurant has been there forever and I think it's one of the best kept secrets in town. We love the casual atmosphere there. This is one of my husband and my favourite "dating" restaurants.
The restaurant has been there forever and I think it's one of the best kept secrets in town. We love the casual atmosphere there. It's a great place to indulge in quality food without having to endure snobbish wait staff and a crazy hefty price tag. In fact, their wait staff are probably the friendliness ones I've met.
Also, you know you are in the right place for Japanese food when you see that half of their clients speak Japanese...
Everything is good here but I'd definitely recommend:
Raw egg chicken sausage - this is the best ever with their special sauce. There have been occasion where I ate two in one sitting
They have freshly imported sweet corn from Japan but I'm not sure I want to spend HK$120 for an ear of corn... But there are people who have them when we were there. The ear of corn comes natural with all its leaf wrappings before they go to the chef for grilling.
beeru! Nothing beats a good cold beer

One piece of advice though... a reservation is almost a must if you are heading there on Friday evenings. Book in advance to avoid disappointment or unnecessary wait at the door.

有一位好主動、熱情、親切嘅女captain,係會有利D嘅。再加上連廚師都識招呼客人,想輸都難。食物中我喜愛鵪鶉蛋、雞皮、雞膝軟骨、牛仔骨及麵豉醬茄子,膽固醇越高我越鐘意。我係為咗飲番兩杯清酒至去,所有食物真係唔錯,可以一去再去。大宗盛師傳真人比上鏡清減但靚仔。

BEER - They only have Draught Tsing Tao here, so I opted for bottled Asahi, the only other 1 or 2 alternatives.

CHICKEN WITH NEGI - This was great. Seasoned well with sauce and grilled perfectly, faint aromas of char-grilling. Chicken was tender and had some chicken taste.

NATTO & CHICKEN YAKI - This was great, wrapped by a piece of seaweed.

BEEF TONGUE - This was the 'thinner' type, but seasoned with cracked pepper and salt. Slightly crunchy but not chewy. I like this a lot. I also like thick versions, no preferences for any!

CHICKEN TSUKUNE - This is the minced chicken done in-house (most shops buy readily made ones), its dipped into a raw egg with a bit of sauce. Excellent! Couldn't find traces of much soft bones though.

- The name of this shop is actually called '錦' - its a 鳥燒居.
 - Its within the Regal Hotel - but don't rely on the signages downstairs because they didn't reserve one for this tiny shop, but its definitely still there and operating!
- Come to think of it: I've actually heard about this shop even from overseas, as they're one of the shops which informs the new customers upfront that they don't serve Raw Fish.... Some people think this is 'arrogant', but u know what? The staff here are ultra friendly, they even asked me how I felt about them compared to the surrounding shops, such as 五味鳥, Hoka Hoka, Tonikaku, etc. The Japanese boss/chef is friendly, says thank you's, and him and the staff work like a family and joke around. It reminds me of a family run business in Japan side streets.
 - As a matter of fact, they actually DO serve raw fish here sometimes, if the fish they source is fresh enough to be eaten that way. You can also reserve for higher end fishes or wagyu's in advance - I saw some customers doing just that! Very flexible!
- Although most Yakitori shop menus are similar, I couldn't help but notice how 純燒鳥's menu is almost a replica of here, or is it the other way around?

REALLY LIKED THIS SHOP, FOOD WAS GREAT TOO! HIGH '4' to LOW '5'

下午到了這位處於regal kowloon hotel內的燒鳥店。雖然它是身處於酒店之內,但進去時候望一下吊在天花的"水牌",是沒有列出此店的所在地的,一直要到往扶手電梯的方向看去才見到指示方向,實在是奇怪得很呢....走入店中,發覺是裝修頗為傳統舊式的串燒店,店子不太大,但地方都見乾淨企理。看來有五十來歲的老闆走來招呼,聽不懂他那說得極快的日語,於是就叫懂廣東話的師傅介紹一下是日的日替料理。今日吃的是吞拿魚蓉飯,對此不感興趣來到燒鳥店不叫些燒鳥吃吃,好像是有點浪費時間吧 於是再喵一下全是平假及片假名的小餐牌,雖謂小弟不懂看日語,但看到menu中出現了"燒鳥丼"三個字,便知這是小弟想要的東西了....召來女侍應落單,怎知她一臉不解,原來之前日籍老闆誤會了小弟欲點的是日替料理,就自己落了單。幸運的是師傅還沒有開始弄,說可以轉單,真是嚇得人冒汗呢...之後用毛巾抹抹手預備等吃,怎料此時竟聽到師傅及侍應以廣東話不停在爭拗剛才落單出錯的問題,最驚奇的是他們竟有點埋怨老闆在未肯定的情況下而落單,事實上可能只是溝通上出現問題而已,小弟身為客人都沒有太大介意,相反他們身為下屬卻埋怨起老闆來真是奇怪最

,事實上可能只是溝通上出現問題而已,小弟身為客人都沒有太大介意,相反他們身為下屬卻埋怨起老闆來
真是奇怪
最令人不爽的是他們不斷在說廣東話,可憐的老闆卻是一句也聽不懂
,似乎是有點不太專業且不尊重吧....

唉....還是說回食物吧。前菜是普通的醃黃蘿蔔及酸梅子乾,另加一小碟炆小件的紅及白蘿蔔。味道亦只是很普通,不算醃炆得很入味,但蘿蔔又不至於死實實。不過可能因小弟肚子太餓了,用不了不到五分鐘時間就將之吃光了
....

再來的湯烏冬是比平常吃到的大碗,很易飽肚。習慣上先喝一口湯,不鹹,而且有些鮮味,色水也很清,不俗。再吃一口烏冬,不夠煙韌,是絕對浪費了那個清湯
....

燒鳥don的飯量反而不算十分多,用的不全是純正帶黏性的日本米,用筷子不斷地夾也成不了形放入口中,最後索性用雙筷不斷地"爬"了
;飯上舖着兩串雞肉 --- 一款是薄切的,另一款則是切成"厚件"及雞件之間夾入小粒青椒的,再加上一只免治雞肉棒及青椒及冬菇各一小件,份量也算是慷慨的。兩款雞串燒都是用上汁燒方法做的,味道有點單調,若將其中一串轉作小弟最愛的鹽燒(特別是軟骨或皮的部份)就更是妙極了
。燒汁味道不過甜,跟雞肉配合得不錯。兩者之中小弟還是愛薄切的,勝在夠咬口又夠香口。厚件的吃落感覺是肉有些嚡的,而且夾在中間的小青椒是有些燒得過焦了....

免治雞肉棒燒得外層有點微脆,但內裡的肉還是嫣紅帶嫩的,比那兩串雞件做得更好
....

青椒及冬菇燒得不夠香,表皮沒帶脆,彷彿只是隨便的放在爐上炙過便算
....

喝一杯凍咖啡作終結。埋單七十多大洋,不貴....

對這裡的食物沒有留下太大印象,反而那些師傅及侍應的對話,還是瀝瀝在目.....

五月一日本來去長沙灣尋求豆腐花,但想過來這邊食個飯.做串燒的,香港十分之多,上年夏天曾去一番食個日替.今回則來這間店鋪.在附近有HOKAHOKA,兔角等平價定食,雖然在酒店內但其實價錢來得便宜,這裏較為殘舊.店鋪來得不大入店鋪內又是自己第一個客人,\.侍應也說明沒有刺身以及壽司,其實是對的,賣串燒的又賣刺身,壽司會感到奇怪,更說質素也不會高得那裏,老實的食個簡單的定食就好了.坐下如要說定食的種類相比附近.這裏來得最少,只有數款可選擇,來這裏當然選擇以燒為主的定食,不用說,就來一客燒魚定食吧.有秋刀魚,三文魚等.當然是三文魚吧.看著師傅放在爐上燒著.總嗅到三文魚那種燒出來的油脂香味不稍一會兒也奉上,一碗白飯配上一件三文魚,旁邊放上漬物,前菜以及味噌湯,沒有什麼精美,更沒有什麼多貴價,其實這不是簡單的一餐嗎,前菜用上菠菜配上少許酸汁的.經常看到的前菜,漬物也是黃拼紫紅,這二樣不用多提.三文魚燒得香口,皮燒得脆口不帶苦味,肉質也算滑溜.白飯和牠總不會有反抗,一件魚早已把飯清光.是有水準的燒魚,飯下水得不濕,已經是收貨,這裏只有咖啡,那麼不適合我,坐多一會兒結帳,埋單八十二元不貴了,和HOKA

第一次來這裏 ,店子小,氣氛熱鬧 ‧全場有一半都是日本人. 因已滿、我們二人安排座吧檯.但都幾闊落,不擠劫.邊吃邊看住廚師做燒物.幾得意.侍應亦親切. 食物好味. 尤其 燒雞翼 和免治雞肉腸 .燒牛柳粒亦好.已經很飽了,但見隔離日本人食緊咖喱烏冬,傳來陣陣咖喱香 . 我地亦照板煮碗來一客. 烏冬彈牙,又熱哄哄的. 真是意外驚喜. 可惜店開至十時半. 之後再到同酒店之pub 模杯底.

十月初三‧陰轉晴 要數尖沙咀的正宗串燒店,除了五味鳥,我還會數這裡的。以前收工去喝酒,要地道一點的話就去五味鳥或大皿加茂,要環境好一點的,必定選這裡。是日約了朋友吃意大利菜,之前找處地方喝點東西,本來先去五味鳥的,但一位難求,就轉了來這邊。七時半左右,人客還不算很多,就坐了在吧檯的一邊。坐了不到十分鐘,也差不多全客滿了。 先來點喝的,本想喝生啤,但只供應青島,就向清酒埋手。這裡的也是大路選擇,要了八海山一支,另外一杯久保田。八海山喝起來甘口,凍飲是一貫的平易近人。另外的久保田是「千壽」,喝起來沒有那麼甜,幾清香的,也如朋友所說,帶點微鹹的礦物味道。 也來點吃的,喜見有燒鹹沙甸魚干,此味是正宗居酒屋的常見的下酒小吃。沙甸魚干經火烤一烤,不同部位也有不同的口感。魚頭鹹香脆口,魚身吃起來較韌,但又較有質感。用力的咬一口,再喝清酒或燒酌,一樂也; 見牆上的紙餐牌有酒盜,也來一客。這裡的是用上三文魚腸加忌廉芝士,鮮腥加上濃香,魚腸口感爽韌,芝士則軟滑,是味道及口感的美味配搭,也當然是下酒良品。唯一略嫌這裡的魚腸下得不夠多,吃至尾段,是像在吃淨芝士; 串燒來了二品,燒牛舌看上來也不像樣子,薄薄的又

侍應服務不錯,有禮貌又醒目,亦可對食物有適當的建議,一讚。

每人二百蚊,作為幫襯正宗的日式居酒屋,物有所值的。

邊吃邊喝邊談,很容易便錯過了正餐的訂檯時間,立即轉場是也。

果次黎係有朋友帶路先黎到,唔係真係黎唔到。氣氛超有Feel,完全係日本鄉下果種感覺,成班架佬係度隊酒,不過酒類比較少。叫左生啤就等食物上檯,叫左個錦A套餐,印象深刻的有雞肉腸(肉汁多,夠鬆軟,點蛋黃食好甜)、紫蘇葉雞(好嫩)、雞屁股(肥香到死左),另外叫左腐皮雞肉卷(香脆)。服務都唔錯,雖然第一次去,都唔會掛住理熟客。
