Okay Food:We ordered two burgers, mine was the basic burger and it really did taste good. Not exceptional, better than McDonald as I can really taste the meat but then not as good as Triple O. However my wife ordered that whatever "Swine" burger and it was smothered in Ketcup, way too much in fact and she couldn't take a thing other than the overwhelming ketcup.Poor (no) service:Everything, and yes I mean EVERYTHING is self service. Poor (no) service:

Everything, and yes I mean EVERYTHING is self service. From passing the order form from cashier to kitchen to getting your own coke, own glass, own straw, SCOOP you own ice to go back to kitchen to collect your food to delivering back to you table, everything you had to do it your own. Should I charge THEM 10% for service charge now?

Way over priced coke:

Now what is the justification for me paying a $20 coke since I did all the work anyway? It is criminal to charge this outrageous price!

開張不久已去過兩次, 因為食物水準頗佳, 又可以自選burger, 連吃遍中環的朋友也覺得不錯並鍾情於自選的烤菠蘿配料(是的, 是漢堡配料之一!). 不想費神的朋友也可像我一樣點既定的各款漢堡, 甚至漢堡扒跟沙律(適合節食一族), 實在不錯.可惜環境設計差勁. 如之前各位所說吧枱座位非常窄, 而其他枱雖然有足夠空間但不知何故偏不設吧櫈, 要企定定吃. 還算了, 開放式的廚房油煙很多, 冷氣又不夠冷, 吃完往往一身油煙味. 所以好吃還好吃, 去過兩次的我已決定如無必要不會再堂食. 外賣算了.

Lunched there earlier in the week. Decided to build a fairly simple burger - NZ angus beef patty with cheddar, bacon and an egg. I took my order to the cashier and she muttered something about not needing to choose lettuce on my burger. I should have clarified what she meant, but was short on time and assumed that it must be because some greens were standard for all burgers (I was later to discover this was not the case). She made a point of erasing my tick for lettuce so unless I did mishea

I took my order to the cashier and she muttered something about not needing to choose lettuce on my burger. I should have clarified what she meant, but was short on time and assumed that it must be because some greens were standard for all burgers (I was later to discover this was not the case). She made a point of erasing my tick for lettuce so unless I did mishear or there was a mix up in the kitchen, I just don't understand the reason for correcting my original selection.

I had to then take my order to the cooks directly by the grill. Seeing as both of them were quite busy cooking, I think they could possibly have put another staff to help sequence orders and deliver them to clients. Instead customers had to interrupt the cooks continuously and then had to monitor food coming out to see if that was their order, sot that they can then pick it up themselves (there's no table numbers / order numbers etc.). All in all, a bit confusing and considering that customers are paying around close to $100 (or more) for a burger and it turns out that they have to do most of the service work themselves, this is annoying and a serious flaw in their concept.

My burger was finally cooked and after getting up to pick it up myself from the kitchen, the first 2 things that came to mind were 1) where are the greens? (see above) and 2) where's the rest of it? Size wise the burger was disappointingly small. The beef patty wasn't particularly tasty but was at least fresh. Bacon was overcooked, dry and hard, the cheese didn't add much flavour or gooiness to the burger. The tomato / onion salsa thing was ok, nothing spectacular and the egg, well i would comment on it if they had remembered to include it, but... yes, that's right, despite ordering and paying for it, NO EGG!!! Again as I was short of time I didn't raise the issue but that's just poor, particularly for a place whose main selling point is custom, made to order burgers. Taste, size, etc. aside, surely getting the order right is paramount if that is the whole point of your restaurant. Unbelievable.

Considering there's quite a few burger places now to be found in central, I will not be going back to GBU. Expensive, average flavours but excellent service (because I had to do it all myself!)

Another new gourmet burger place in Central...colleague and I are both big fans of gourmet burgers, and since Burger Joint disappeared suddenly few months ago, we haven’t came across any burger place that’s good value for the $…The place was empty during lunch, we took a seat at the bar table…but the way the table set up is only suitable for 1 person…with 2 people, either one of us need to stand at the other end of the table, or sit separately in two tables…some bar stools should solve the probl

It took a while to figure what to order, you can customize everything for your burger – the type of cheese, toppings, sauces, patties…etc…it was a bit complicated…

Can coke cost $20; I could of get one just from the 7-11 downstair for 5 bucks…

The burger was ok, definitely didn’t make a big impression to me, as I already forgot how it tastes like….

Don’t think I will go there again, just not justified.

今日同男友去了GBU食 lunch。我們被佢o既招牌吸引,於是上了此餐廳。看了一下menu 真的有點嚇人,一個burger 要成最少六十幾元,貴o個o的要差不多一百元。見到咁樣,我們決定點一個試一下就算。呀!食落就真係沒有令我們失望,個包唔硬,口感不錯,那塊漢堡很有肉汁,cheese 又好香,再加上其他的toppings,正呀!環境方面,一般啦,大部分都是企位。我覺得那裡的 ventilation system 做得不夠好,油煙味很大。這方面真的有待改善。總而言之,雖然這個buger 有點貴,但都值得一試的!

早兩日食左。先講環境,寬敞,不過大半都係企位,眼明手快先有得坐。同埋好熱,冷氣唔夠,音樂超嘈,家下食熱狗唔係去酒吧喎。全自助服務,比錢遞單拿食物都係自己黎,比較細心既係雪櫃入面除左可樂汽水,重有冰同埋杯,所有野都黎凍既,唔錯。食物嘛,呢度玩自選創作漢堡,揀完肉再揀芝士再揀汁再揀Topping,最後揀包,揀左1/4牛肉,重有紅洋蔥同埋羊奶芝士,搭多個薯條,埋位開餐。包,還好,夠鬆軟,牛肉,唔夠熱,同埋無乜肉汁喎,芝士就好少,少到好似無落咁。薯條,超唔掂,真係落樓下買包自己炸都好過佢。價錢,咁樣食法,都成百二銀先走得甩,雖然係中環區,但係以質素而言,實在貴左少少,加上環境太嘈,無理由返轉頭。

Along with the rising fame of Duke's Burger in Soho, the "burger scene" in Central is really getting better and better, kicking the Triple O and Mccies out of the line seeking real juicy, tasty burgers. And Viola! We have Gourmet Burger Union now.Visited for a tea lunch with colleagues and the shop at that time was empty. Good to have a quiet and comfortable lunch. Visited for a tea lunch with colleagues and the shop at that time was empty. Good to have a quiet and comfortable lunch. GBU offers a real long list of burger choices plus chips / wedges.

Freshly made burgers are BIG, FRESH, and YUMMY.
And that one I had was called HAPPY COW made of no meat but Soya thing.
It tastes good and is belly filling.

A good corner @ Central.
That will be better if bar seats and more drinks are provided!

Even rusting dining is part of the "gourmet" world now, how ironic can it gets? With burger joints opening here in Hong Kong faster than we can blink and look closely, there is a new establishment right here in Central, the beating heart of the so-called Gourmet Dining hot-spot of the city. With Duke's right around the corner, 'Gourmet Burger Union' is not selling bling-bling burgers with sweetbreads and rabbit confit. Instead, a more diverse ranges of ingredients that are destined to add colours to the menu, and difficulties to choose what you really want.

Custom-made burgers are hardly anything new, but with choices as diversed as ones offered here at Gourmet Burger Union, it encourages customers to return with an adventurous palate. To make your own, first you take one of those clipboards and fill in your name, then you select the meat (Angus Beef, Chicken, Lamb, and how much of meat you want, ranging from $63 for vegetarian patty to $98 for 1/2 pounder patty of Angus Beef). For each burger you are entitled to 1 cheese (any 1 extra cheese costs $15). Feel free to choose from Mozzarella, Monterey Jack to Stilton, Brie and Halloumi. Moving on, you will need two toppings. Personal favorites are grilled onions (sweet and appropriately charred) and roasted red bell peppers (sweet and delicious). For the gourmet factor you can add extra $10 for each "gourmet topping" which included choices like Prosciutto, Hummus, Homemade Guacamole or Portobello Mushroom. You're almost at the end of the list when you choose the sauce you like. Feel free to go with the choices here. Basilico Pesto is a bright green concoction with no signs of pignoli taste to it. Truffle cream, I heard, is like biting into a mushroom. Choosing the bread is an easy task at the end.

There is also something called "burger in a bowl" for the health-conscious crowd who must have a bed of greens for their meal. Lettuce blend, rocket leaves or Mixed Baby Greens are what you are going to get, and from what I see they are neither very bright nor very gourmet in appearance. The beef patty that comes with the burger are juicy throughout and cooked to medium unless notified for rare or fully cooked (you can't ignore the shock on their look if you order completely cooked). The 'medium-ness' in the patty can hardly be noticed since the patty is so thin and fragile as it falls from your hand every time you take a bite., Make sure you have your buns thoroughly toasted, because mine isn't, even upon request. Don't feel bad to send back your order if it is not what you wanted. There is no way you need to settle for fully cooked cardboard drenched in fat, when you ordered rare patty with a thin strand of pinkness within. The staff can be very casual and forceful to convince you that they are busy, and you will eat your burger as it is. My advice is, don't give in, as you can easily pay $100 dollars for a burger, you may as well want it perfect, afterall, you have walked up those stairs (reminder: the third stair from the bottom is wider than the rest. High-heelers beware!) Aside from the cooks having trouble getting everything right and an extended waiting time is expected, Gourmet Burger Union serves relatively good food if you go safe and order something without particular fuss to construct. Fries are the shoestring type, and potato wedges are satisfactory.

Shakes were not ready at the time of my visit, and surprisingly wine is in the fridge but nowhere to be found on the menu. You can fax in your order from your office, but I prefer the clean slick corner window standing benches facing the traffic. Those with sensitive noses can stay away as the smell of grease can be experienced before you enter the downstairs entrance. If 'Gourmet' only stands in the means of food by the variety of choices to be made, from common to rare; Or it stands for piling up all the 'different' foods together and be done with, then Gourmet Burger Union will live up to its reputation fittingly. But noticing that 'gourmet' extends beyond just the food, as dining out is every bit and art as much as science to many, GBU failed to deliver a sensible notion of gourmet, as the simplicity of a comfort food is replaced by an ill-fitted amount of foods that don't belong there.
