為了注入新能量, 工作之餘,  一定要對自己好啲, 食得好啲.識飲識食的我,  吃是最開心的享受.    今晚去了 Kuro Shabu - 日式牛涮涮鍋專門店, 門面設計幾特別. 餐廳門外先看看餐牌, 主要供應黑毛和牛, 黑豚, 黑雞,  好吸引啊 !  今次只得兩個人,  各有各點.  我 最愛:Kuro  Omakase set 餐廳設計,  正中是大型吧檯, 好有美感.燈光柔和,  大家圍吧齊座,  好有氣氛.  拍拖的可以選方桌.我們落了單,  店員送來胡麻醬, 蔥,  蘿蔔蓉配料.日本火鍋「一人一鍋」 這個概念不錯.   吃得健康.   湯底更用了函館入口的籠目昆布, 有益又美顏.頭盆:   黑毛和牛 A4   油花分佈得好靚, 色澤好鮮紅, 份量足. 水準的確高,  切得薄薄地, 滾幾下就食得, 好快熟, 有濃厚牛肉味,  肉質鮮嫩又甜美,  超好吃 !此套餐配有 雜菜籃 有日本冬菇,  茼萵, 金菇, 豆腐, 蘿蔔及紹菜, 份量夠, 蔬菜新鮮嫩綠,  入口清甜且爽. 第二盆:  黑毛和牛 A5,  極上品質 ,  大大片, 油脂與肉形成美麗的圖案, 肉質相當優秀.別看雪

灼至剛熟即起, 牛味香, 肉質順滑,  與分怖均勻的油脂混和, 相當好吃. 入口完全不覺油膩,  反覺甘香, 有種入口即溶感覺, 食得 起勁 !!

Depending how much you like shabu shabu,  it may be worth it for you, but no faults on the excellent execution (simple though it might seem)Still in its soft opening, i thought i'd review it anyway since they seem to pretty much have the service and food figured out. Still in its soft opening, i thought i'd review it anyway since they seem to pretty much have the service and food figured out. Kuro Shabu is parked right next to Grassroots Pantry and Blue Butcher on Hollywood Road, and its decor looks more like a new Ashley Sutton bar than a shabu shabu place. Beautifully lit with warm wood tones, all the seats are around a bar island where the chefs prep. 

The menu is simple and everyone basically eats one of 4 sets.

1) Omakase which has a number of beef slices (A4 and A5), 3 types of pork and one portion of chicken 
2) Standard A4 beef set
3) Premium A4 Beef Set
4) Kurobuta set (same as the omakase pork set but a bit more of each)
You can also add additional items from the a la carte menu

We tried the omakase and kurobuta set

They said for soft opening there are offering more beef than there will be for the regular opening omakase, but my friend had roughly 13 slices of insanely marbled beef.  (They might have 8-10 for the actual opening) I'm not a beef guy but my friend said they were amazing and from the pictures you can roughly get the idea how amazing.

With the omakase you'll also get to try the all the pork cuts and two slices of Kagoshima chicken (kinda tasteless i thought).

The omakase overall was great, but it was a bit of overkill; by the time you're done with the beef you're pretty full, and THEN you get quite a bit of pork and then the chicken (which adds very little to the meal), so i'd probably recommend the other beef sets. In classic shabu fashion, you'll eat these with sesame and ponzu sauces for dipping. 

The kurobuta set was good, and included about 12 tasty pieces of pork, but i'm not sure it's worth the $370. And I'll never understand pork belly shabu shabu... why is eating boiled fat slices a thing? Let's be honest though, you're not going to Kuro Shabu for pork.

With every set you get a choice of white rice/ brown rice/ udon, as well as a large bowl of vegetables.

The vegetables, napa cabbage, shiitake and enoki mushrooms, white radish and some kind of lettuce, are actually a perfect complement to all the meat, and the portion is sizable. You also get a simple dessert of ice cream/sorbet at the end.

Overall, it's clear top quality beef is the focus of Kuro Shabu, and the simple menu reflects that. The service and preparation (love the individual pots) are both simple but efficient (you cook everything yourself obviously), and as a high-concept beef shabu place it's well-executed. Though the pork was good, don't bother coming for it or the chicken. The question we were asking is whether 400-550 for 8-10 pieces of amazing beef worth it? (that's for the the non-omakase sets) For my friend, the answer at last is probably not, though she loves beef and said it was delicious.  That said, if you're a fan of beef shabu, you'll probably be trying this place anyway, and i would totally get it if you loved it. Give it a shot! (here's the lunch menu if you're on the fence)
