It was a post-christmas dinner which turns out better as a lot of people had just returned from trips abroad over Christmas. We had a party of 14, of which one was a very well behaved 10 year old and another 18 month old baby. The lady owner and other staff were very happy to entertain the kids for us. I checked out their website and I like that they list all their prices clearly, and the set dinners range from $350 - $470 depending on what dishes you select.
We took up the room with the balcony and managed to just squeeze all 14 of us in there. We didn't notice the smoky fumes from the kitchen as mentioned by previous reviewers. The table was nicely set and some decorative tinsel hung above. There were chips and nuts to nibble on whilst people mingled and sipped on their drinks. We brought over a dozen bottles of champagne, reds and whites, and the staff were very attentive to refill our glasses and they always checked if it was the same drink first before they poured. As long as you don't need them to change your glasses, corkage fee is free. Lobo said we can open as many bottles of reds and about 7-8 bottles of white for our group size, but we failed to reach the limit that night.
Everyone had put in their orders for food before the dinner so it went relatively smoothly. The dishes were served at a good pace with enough time inbetween for us to catch up with each other on small talk and chit chat. The dishes are on their menu, everyone was expertly executed, served at the right temperature, arranged nicely on the plates, and everything tasted fresh and bursting of flavours. The portions were just big enough to leave you feeling sated but not over-indulged in the post-festive season. The scallops were juicy and succulent and looked/tasted more appetising than the tiger prawns. The mushroom soup was not too creamy and had lots of flavour. The seabass was my choice and tasted delicious. The foie gras was nicely done, crispy on the outside, tender on the inside. Special mention about the ribeye steak and lambrack which won an accolade of praise from fellow diners. The oohs and ahhs came with we had 5 types of dessert to choose from, and the molten lava chocolate cake (an extra $20), made with 99% dark chocolate, won the hearts of the choco and non-chocoholics alike. Having said that, the creme brulee, panacotta, grape jelly with icecream (a bit plain, but I wanted something light and refreshing), and strawberries with icecream were all scrumptious and everyone had a great time passing them around and digging their spoons into other people's dessert to try a bit of everything.
Lobo toiled away in the kitchen preparing our meals, special thanks to him and the staff for making it a memorable night for everyone, and by the time we left it was nearly midnight. Time flies when you have fun.
