十二月十五日 (星期六)平日人頭湧湧的太古坊,來到週末時間,就是連路人也不算多在這一帶的食肆,也由平日的熱鬧變成當前寧靜在這氛圍下,實在適合戀人們調調情,三五知己談談天也是不錯的地方在不少西餐廳裡,我們就選擇了The News RoomThe News Room 是Press Room Group 旗下的其一西餐廳這集團最有名氣地位的,必數剛摘星而回的The Principal其餘的還包括Classified, The Press Room, SML及由在和昌大押舊址改建而成的The Pawn除了The News Room,其他的餐廳都已品嚐過,尤其是Classified,因地點最就腳,更是去了N次是晚,就讓我們完成Press Room Group 之旅的最後一站~六時許來到,從落地玻璃窗望進去,人不多,只有三四枱客不過,環看四周餐廳,更少,這裡已是最熱鬧的地方侍者遞上清水和餐牌,晚市也有套餐提供,而且更是在主餐牌選擇二百多元的套餐,若一模一樣散點的話,也要三百多,實在超值如是者,最簡單,就一人一個晚餐罷前菜,就選了一湯一Carpaccio湯選了最喜歡的周打蜆肉湯,質感十分濃稠,而且魚

在不少西餐廳裡,我們就選擇了The News Room
The News Room 是Press Room Group 旗下的其一西餐廳
這集團最有名氣地位的,必數剛摘星而回的The Principal
其餘的還包括Classified, The Press Room, SML及由在和昌大押舊址改建而成的The Pawn

除了The News Room,其他的餐廳都已品嚐過,尤其是Classified,因地點最就腳,更是去了N次
是晚,就讓我們完成Press Room Group 之旅的最後一站~

六時許來到,從落地玻璃窗望進去,人不多,只有三四枱客
不過,環看四周餐廳,更少,這裡已是最熱鬧的地方
侍者遞上清水和餐牌,晚市也有套餐提供,而且更是在主餐牌選擇
二百多元的套餐,若一模一樣散點的話,也要三百多,實在超值

湯選了最喜歡的周打蜆肉湯,質感十分濃稠,而且魚香味濃厚
配料也不欺場,蜆肉大隻豐富,還有紅蘿蔔,洋蒽等等,口感豐富

來一客Carpaccio,牛肉薄片,色澤紅潤,也充滿油花
配以清新的檸檬和青豆,實在十分怡人

兩款前菜也很滿意,對主菜充滿期待
我倆也選了香煎吞拿魚扒,不久前也在Dot cod吃過,煎成豬扒的模樣
外表甚討好的,可惜魚肉頗嚡口的,似乎是煎過了火位
幸好魚肉仍算鮮香,其他的配菜也很有水準

We were out visiting the Sunday farmer's market in Quarry Bay (not worth it) and decided to stop here for lunch. Fish and chips: the menu said this was sustainably farmed cod, and for $180, it had better be. The fish was quite good, and the batter thin and crisp (though soggy on the underside). With the lemon and tartar sauce, it was flavorsome. A-

Fries (chips): Pretty boring shoestring fries, a little overcooked. And they give you a great big pile of them. B

My wife got a burger, medium. I had a few bites and it tasted pretty good. The egg on it was very runny and it soaked the bun and ran out the back of the burger. Other than that, it seemed pretty decent. My wife says "I can't really criticize it on anything in particular, but it wasn't mind-blowing: A-"

There was a decent if small sample of American beers on the menu. We both had Anchor Steam, which I hadn't had for a while, but highly recommend to you.

All in all the place was pretty good, but kind of empty, quiet, and depressing-- sort of like Quarry Bay on a Sunday. A-

薄片的牛肉,肉質非常軟腍,而且牛香味濃郁。配上松露油令牛肉的鮮美更加突出,味道簡直一流。爸爸話可惜分量不多,想食更多!
另外,生牛肉伴以火箭菜,松露油和芝士,火箭菜入口雖然略帶微苦,但芝士片相當濃郁,蓋過火箭菜的苦澀,變得更易入口。

菠菜蟹肉沙律
菠菜固然夠爽口及味道甜甜的。蟹肉伴了蕃茄及牛油果,而且配了香蔥法式奶油汁,整體感覺就是既健康又不油膩。份量都多,食完已有3成飽。

鮮蝦沙律配溫泉蛋
生菜夠爽口,而沙律上的温泉蛋,蛋黃呈流心狀,入口滑溜。
鮮蝦大大隻,十分爽口彈牙。另外,沙律上灑了蟹子,食起來更加爽口開胃。So fresh! 

主菜共有四款選擇,牛肩扒、青檸辣椒雞扒、 法式吞拿魚沙律和木烤三文魚
老公及爸爸當然選來自美國的 USDA Nebraska 8oz 牛肩扒

肉味濃郁,吃起來夠咬口,令人食指大動。伴碟的薯條,分量剛剛好,入口外脆內軟,薯香味濃,十分可口。

賣相非常吸引,三文魚魚皮很脆,好似炸過一樣,十分香口。入口魚肉嫩滑,烤得剛剛好,依然有肉汁,吃起來豐腴甘美。食時能吃出淡淡的煙熏香氣,教人回味。但份量不算大件。

媽咪試了我的三文魚,覺得吞拿魚比下去。因為吞拿魚魚味不足,而且魚肉"孩"口。
媽咪比較喜歡伴碟的沙律及温泉蛋。

總結:食物質素好,每樣食物都好味。前菜份量多,主菜份量略小。

團購瘋系列 – 其實住處附近的《The News Room》開業已經超過一年,但筆者竟然連一次早餐也沒來吃過。不過近日從網站發現餐廳做團購推廣,原價 $265 的 2-Course Set Dinner 可享買一送一優惠,十分超值,見機不可失,也立即買了下來,決定和老公來品嚐一頓歐陸晚餐。座落於太古坊糖廠街中心位置的《The News Room》,屬 Press Room Group 旗下品牌,原址本來是另一家酒吧式西餐廳《Cafe Einstein》,結業後旋即被這間充滿著英式小屋格調的店子取而代之。據悉餐廳選擇在鰂魚涌開業,並取名 《The News Room》,原來是為了紀念當年在鰂魚涌遍地開花的傳媒。選了一個平日的晚上到訪,原來餐廳分為兩個部分,近門口處是酒吧區,除了設有高腳椅桌及藏量豐富的美酒外,還有操作簡單的自動售酒機,非常適合上班族放工後來這裡聊天聚腳。至於裡面的甪餐區,地方更是寬敞闊落,以一室木製傢具配上啡色及綠色兩款座椅,加上單邊落地大玻璃窗及半腰小矮櫃,令四周環境增添了一份時尚感。如果嫌餐廳內焗促,亦可到門外的露天茶座,吸一口清新空氣。輪到戲肉,來到這晚的二人

輪到戲肉,來到這晚的二人歐陸美饌,其實每個餐都只包一款主食,另可於餐湯、頭盤、沙律和甜品中任擇其一。先看餐湯選擇,蘭度豆、蜆肉周打,記得有食評曾提及餐湯水準不濟,就是罐頭金寶湯,味道亦比這裡的 clam chowder 好上百倍,為免浪費配額,決定放棄餐湯。至於甜品,既然老公非甜魔一族,亦一於捨棄埋甜食,決定在沙律和頭盤中各揀一款。

先試侍者剛放下,以木砧板盛載的麵包塊。入口雖然韌度十足,而且咬落滿是麥香,但好可惜塊麵包完全沒預先翻熱,入口又硬又凍,就是連奉上的牛油也是實心的,真的毫無誠意可言。幸好以扁身碟盛載的鮮蝦沙律,味道就非常出色,碟內生菜固然夠爽口,而伴吃的温泉蛋,蛋黃更呈半流心狀,入口如豆腐般滑溜,配搭上清新的香草,爽彈的鮮蝦,更起點睛之效,整體感覺就是既健康又不油膩。

頭盤意式生牛肉,分量不多,但切成薄片的牛肉,肉質非常軟腍,而且牛香味濃郁,加上松露油巧妙地提升了牛肉的鮮美,吃起來味道簡直一流。至於在牛肉面頭作點綴的火箭菜,入口雖然略帶微苦,但咬落滿是濃濃的黑椒香,與帶有濃烈乾果香氣的巴馬臣芝士片配合得天衣無縫,水準不賴。

主菜方面,共有四款選擇,牛肩扒、青檸辣椒雞扒、法式吞拿魚沙律和木烤三文魚,嗜牛的老公當然首選八安士牛肩扒,而我就點了烤三文魚。來自美國的 USDA Nebraska 牛肩扒,肉質雖然不算太鬆化,但吃起來夠咬口之餘,肉味亦非常濃郁,再配合海鹽及黑椒調味香煎,效果甚佳,令人食指大動,以這樣的價錢,相信嗜牛一族應該會滿意。至於伴碟的薯條,分量其實稍嫌偏少,幸好入口外脆內軟,薯香味濃,十分可口。

木烤三文魚,賣相非常吸引,據悉三文魚先掃以茴香及檸檬汁佐味,再以木板盛著來烤焗,魚肉入口非常嫩滑,吃起來豐腴甘美,每一口都散發出淡淡的煙熏香氣,教人回味。臨走前發現餐廳原來逢星期六、日有 weekend brunch 供應,有機會要來試試。

題外話/補充資料: $256價錢包2道菜, 質量可以, 但份量一般, 如果沒跟碗炸薯條, 就應該唔夠食! 而且沒有送飯後咖啡/茶, 好像缺少了些東西! 買一送一就算超值, 如果正價就偏貴.

Bagel with cream cheese & smoked salmon: you can't really go wrong with this, but a little disappointed that the bagel was not too toasted. If its not toasted, then the bagel becomes too difficult to cut / tear-off.Chicken sandwich: tasty, with some avocado and bacon, fries are decent. news room bfast: this has got the works..2 eggs any style, sausage, potato, mushroom, beans. can't really go wrong with this choice.

steak sandwich: don't order this, its a very thin piece of steak with little taste and you'll wish you had ordered the chicken sandwich.

說時遲,店員端上Clam Chowder-誒?為甚麼會用espresso...杯....盛湯的?看得我們都傻了眼,誰會想到在餐牌上分為一道菜的湯居然只是兩三口的份量?招來侍應一問,她說這是tasting portion,是廚師不想令客人喝得太飽,所以把湯的分量減少...那麼為甚麼餐廳一開始不在餐牌寫明湯只是tasting portion?要等到客人看見細如無物的湯才前來解釋?這算不算誤導,讓客人看見誤會餐廳的是four course dinner,而不是restaurant week的three course?我們也有和侍應反映,希望有關方面可以吸取意見.

說回有誤導成分的Clam Chowder,其實味道相當不錯,濃郁忌廉中透出鮮明的蜆肉香氣,加上煮軟的薯仔粒,沒有Dan Ryan's的那麼濃滯.要是能來多一點,又或者直接設為頭盤的其中一款選擇,定必更恰當.

另一款是愛吃的Louisiana chilli crab cake,未有用上巨形蟹肉絲,但因混進不少麵包糠,內外都充滿香脆的口感,加上鮮甜的蟹肉,味道非常不錯.亦可擠些青檸汁來吊出鮮甜味,又或者吃一口酸酸的沙律,感覺同樣清新.

吃過份量不大的頭盤,胃口當然全開,但三道主菜要等一會才一次過端上,等得我們不禁焦急起來!

這晚的主菜選擇有三款,亦可加$89選擇Nabraska牛扒.最終愛肉的我們捨棄了risotto,點來三款全肉的主菜!

海鱸魚是我相當愛吃的魚類,輕輕一煎已能叫魚油迸發,香口得很!魚肉亦嫩滑無渣,味道鮮甜,加上煎得香脆的魚皮,沒有可投訴的地方;而其各式配料亦獨當一面.先是混有番紅花的薯蓉,清新幼滑;茴香沙律香得像pesto sauce,令充滿油脂的魚肉變得清新起來,令清碟變得輕而易舉,哈哈!

另一邊廂的牛肋骨則以濃味為主,說明是sticky glazed的煮法,外頭當然coat著又黏又甜的醬汁,個人覺得甜味好像過火了點,不過肉質是又軟滑味道又濃郁的.伴碟的有番薯片和打發過的蘿蔔蓉,比較清新,應該是來平衡較濃郁的牛肋肉的.但相比之下,還是煎魚的配料比較吸引.

要加錢的Nebraska rib-eye以木板盛載,牛扒上佈滿深刻的炭燒坑紋,好吸引!

牛肉雖不致頂級的無渣,肉味亦偏甜了點,但表皮的炭燒香氣非常濃郁,令肉眼扒增色不少.伴碟的黑椒汁是鮮有的惹味和香辣,無論點牛肉又或點薯條亦同樣合適.

說起薯條,這裡的薯條和The Pressroom的同樣香脆美味,而且還是come in a big bowl,並伴以蒜蓉沙律醬和茄汁,好吃得我們停不了口!

甜品只有兩款,沒有了招牌的pear tarte tatin,換來key lime pie和ice-cream sundae,感覺帶點美式.

高身的ice-cream sundae置有曲奇雪糕,藍莓雪芭和一小件芝士餅,整體是很難不美味的配搭,甜美的雪糕有雖不愛吃?不過如果芝士餅能夠大片點,牛油餅底多一點,整體口感會更佳.

Key Lime pie切得吝嗇,牛油酥皮毡著半溶的青檸餡,而味道相當清新,更帶點泰式冬陰公的酸味(!),味道很fusion,但酥皮夠酥脆,味道是不錯的.不可不提的是那幼幼朱古力脆卷,又香又濃的可可香貫徹脆卷,好吃得叫人上癮!

回顧整頓晚餐,食物質素說實是不錯的,但可能因剛剛才吃過The Press Room,那味道和份量皆足的菜式還深深烙在腦海,所以相比之下,遠一點並斜涉嫌誤導客人的The News Room,就顯得失色了.

論流心,這poached egg真的沒話說,黃澄澄的蛋漿澎湃地湧出,視覺衝擊已教人滿足。等不及拍好照,味覺已催促我趕快品嚐這誘惑。微溫的蛋漿滋潤著底下的muffin,中間的smoked salmon為其添加味覺層次,hollandaise sauce中的醋味和檸檬汁緊接著衝擊味蕾。除卻hollandaise sauce醋味太濃,過酸了點,整客Egg Florentine 都很好。從切開、看著其流心、到蛋漿於口腔內予我味覺剌激,實在令我享受。Egg benedict is my all time favourite~! lol

English breakfast的pork sausage味道就滿足了CM的「肉」望,但份量就少了點> < bacon亦對辦,用上更正統的back bacon而非streaky bacon,只是輕煎過,愛香口的話,或者要落單時提醒店方了。薯仔粒同樣是健康版本,感覺更home feel。。未知是否我記錯,之前看過介紹這裡的茄汁豆是自家製的,食起來卻不怎樣。太陽蛋煎得漂亮,toast亦夠香口。整體而言,算是具水準的出品。有些地區的英式早餐習慣會加black pudding,炒菇亦是常見的component,或者店方可以考慮讓食客加錢配搭,更切合不同食客的需要。

週末悠閒用餐,講食物亦講環境。店內的裝潢正合我心意,是英國很多小店的風格,其木枱最討我歡心。當日店內僅我倆,食到中途才有另一對客人進內,邊看報章邊食brunch,多快活~ ^^

We sat down to enjoy a nice lunch, we ordered, and then got the starter, looked nice, then we received drinks, a coffee for me, and a glass of water, the glass of water contained lipstick marks from a previous customer, we complained got up and left, there is now way we could trust a resteraunt that on the service presents quality, but in the action doesn't care.
For this reason, we give a resounding low mark.

Main course是Slow roasted leg of lamb, with pumpkin puree, green beans and pesto sauce. Lamb味道普通,或者說沒什麽味道,沒有羊的騷味,但亦沒有香味。倒是下面的pumpkin puree味道不錯,又或者是因為我喜歡吃pumpkin。另外,size很小,女生只是7~8分飽,男生一定吃不飽。

當日的dessert of the day是chocolate brownie,味道不錯,chocolate味幾濃,甜度也都適中。

Honestly, 對mian course有小小失望,比想像中差一些,應該可以更好吃吧。相反前一次只是吃chicken sandwich,味道都不錯,也能吃飽,還便宜。

除了環境不錯,服務都讓人滿意,service很及時,不管是落單, 添水或者是買單,基本都不用等,很有效率;希望main course能有所改善。

We ordered quite a lot for just the 2 of us.

For appetizers, we had fresh oysters, crab cake and the foie gras toast.

The fresh oysters....sorry, but I can't remember which type they were, but they tasted great! Very fresh! Loved them.

The crab cakes were great! They had a lot of crab meat in it. Unlike many other restaurants that would try to cut the cost and add many filler into the crab cake instead.

Then it's the foie gras toast. I am not a big fan of foie gras. Too rich for me. But according to the birthday guy who loves foie gras, he says it's good.

For the main courses, we had mac and cheese with truffle and the rib eye steak.

I have got to say OMG! The mac and cheese was D-E-L-I-C-I-O-U-S! It's very cheesey and creamy! They added some herbs in it. I think it's a must have at New Room. I wanna have it right now just thinking about it now. It's hard to find a mac and cheese that creaming in HK as restaurants all try to cut down their cost by compromising on their ingredients. However, News Room is totally none of that! It was loaded with cream and cheese!

The rib eye steak was good too. But it has a bit too much seasoning. Too salty. Not what I like, but I am sure there are others who would like it.

For dessert, we had creme brulee. It has got to be the creamiest creme brulee I have ever tasted! Love it! Just one bite and I knew it's enough to give me a heart attack if I were 80 years old hahaha. I could feel the fatty cream gliding down my esophagus. OMG! Loved it again!

The bill came to about $1000 for the 2 of us. However, comparing the price and the quality of the food the serve, I think it totally worths it.

The overall experience at News Room was great great great! I never expected to find such fine western dining in Hong Kong. I wish I can dine there every single nigth!

Plates cleared quickly.

Coffee and second beer arrived quickly.

All good - I could see several hours sitting outside in the sun being a possibility on a sunny day.

Will definitely go again.

First point of note is the vacuum wine machine allowing you to sample many wines by the glass.

We are seated at a large table by the window with a not very inspiring view directly into the 24 hour McDonalds.

We share the crab cakes($98) as a starter and very good they were, more crab than filler and fresh taste.

Then came the big surprise on the menu, an oxtail and kidney pudding($195). I have never seen a pudding before in HK, and with happy memories of steak and kidney puddings back in the UK, I had to try this. This was one hugely calorific and heavy dish, just the way it should be! A decent suet crust encased a rich oxtail and kidney filling, no side dishes are needed. Some with lesser appetites may find this enough for two sharing.

The other main was fish and chips ($180, a little on the steep side) which was a generous portion of crispy battered fish with a huge pile of thin cut chips that defeated my partner.

With a glass of white($50) and two glasses of red ($136) the bill was $756 which is just ok value considering it’s location.
