We go there and give a try because of good comments from openrice. Unfortunately, it turns out to be an unpleasant experience. We've both order the steak and frites in the lunch set menu. The salad is not fresh as you can see in the photo. Steak is cold, not fresh which seems to be put on air for a long while. The frites are just the normal French fries you can try on other restaurants. The pumpkin soup is just ok. Overall, it's an unpleasant experience.

Each person around $500.

This restaurant was suggested by my friend who works for the food industry. This restaurant has a number of shops. Originally we would like to go to Causeway Bay shop. But due to Ruby Seven, we afraid that it would be too crowded and very noisy. Thus we shifted to this Central shop. Actually it is located at Sheung Wan.

When the lift opened, it is the back of the customers. I think it is not very good. As customers who sit close to the lift will feel uncomfortable when the lift open and close. They will feel the wind and watched by others. No privacy.

Luckily, we were not seating near to the lift. We were on the other side, close to the balcony. It was much better, as we can see the street view from the balcony. Although it may be a bit hot , as the balcony means no air condition. Again, luckily, it was not very hot that night. 

This time, I would like to focus on the wild choices of beer in this restaurant. When we start to order, we ordered the drinks first. But we need some time to think about it. The drink menu, several pages, with all different kinds of beers, not only the brand, but also the taste, the shape of the bottles, and the countries making the beers. Usually, those beers are not produced in large amount. So they are called the "handmade beer".

This one is my order, stawberry flavor beer. Of course it is very fruity. Very suitable for girls to drink. Not strong. But I can still tasted it has alcohol. So I drink slowly to avoid "red face".

My friend sitting opposite to me, chose this one, because the outlook is interesting. Just like you are now in the laboratory, and the beer is the test tube. You cannot just take out the cup from the wooden racket. Because the width of the "neck" is not enough. Or you can drink together with the wooden racket? Ha Ha! You have to take "up" the cup a little bit to "relax" the cup from the racket from the smaller circumference.

This one, the cup is just an XO cup for the strong wine. But acutally, as from the comment of my friend, the taste is dry and burr. Not strong.

Finally, I have to talk about the food. We ordered quite a number of dishes. But I would like to focus on this one, "Roasted Pig Hand". The skin is very cruchy. Before the meat, there is a layer of fatty, but just very thin. You can separate them easily. But I suggest you to eat together. You can eat the skin separately if you want to. The meat is not salty, as many restaurant will do so. Thus, you can eat a lot without eating the side dish like potatoes. But the amount is not very much. As we have 10 friends eating together, and the first 5 people finished enjoying the pig hand and said it is very tasty, we have to order another dishes for the other 5 people.

We drank a lot until 11oclock. We asked the waiter when would be the last order or the closing time for the restaurant. They said that , what ever you like to stay! ( of course we can continue to order drinks, but not cooked food). I think the service is ok.

I'd just met the girl after work and we had to decide on a dinner location close to Sheung Wan, somewhere nice and casual. I'd not had a heap of luck when deciding on casual dining spots in HK, with more than a few being quite the let down.

It just so happened that we were walking close to The Wellington, right on the border of Central and Sheung Wan and I remembered that there was a Belgium Beer House on the 1st floor. Frites sounded pretty interesting and the Belgium people are pretty well known for their frites (fries), so it seemed like an easy place to stop by on the way home. We didn't have a booking and didn't really expect that it would be too hard to score a table. Boy, were we wrong! As we stepped out of the lift, the place was rocking with suits enjoying an after work beer. Luckily, we were given a table on the promise that we'd be out of the place by 7:30pm - it was 6:15pm and an easy request to fulfil for a couple of speed eaters!

We were shown to one of the many bench style seats in the main dining room, which reminded me of an old style European bar; bench seats at one end and a traditional bar at the other. It was quite comforting and warming inside, especially since it was a very rare cold winter's day outside. Placemat style menus were already at our table and showed off a wide range of typical pub fare, including a whole section dedicated to Mussel Pots, which were available in half or full kilo options. A big pot of mussels sounded a tempting way to start a meal, but given we'd promised to vacate our seats in record time, we decided to forego starters and jump straight into mains.

As we waited for our mains to arrive, SC couldn't help herself and ordered arguably one of Belgium's greatest ever exports, a Stella Artois. I'm not a huge fan of beers generally, but the times where I've almost enjoyed a brew have been with a pilsner. Of course, the prospect of a beer excited SC more than myself, so she enjoyed the huge glass of pilsner, which she assured me was lip smackingly good.

The beer also happened to perfectly match the girl's main course of Provence cutlets from New Zealand lamb accompanied by herb de provence Lyonnaise potatoes and Swiss chard salad. The plate of food was about as simple as it gets, with a huge pile of expertly grilled lamb cutlet sitting atop the chard and potatoes. Lamb is a very sweet meat and can be served as medium rare, but is much better when the lamb fat is rendered. Frites had got the mix right, with the sweet fat rendered perfectly but still maintaining a hue of pink from the lamb. Being such a large plate of lamb, the potatoes and chard were largely unnecessary, but I guess needed to be added... You just can't serve a plate of lamb on it's own in a restaurant, can you?

I'd kept things pretty simple too, ordering the steak frites, which was a 14oz piece of grilled USDA Black Angus rib eye, served with a lettuce leaf salad and those famous Belgium chips. Rib eye is a very fatty piece of meat and should be served at least medium and possibly even medium well, but I'd run with the recommended medium rare. The rib eye was very tasty, especially where it wasn't so fatty, but I should have gone with my instinct and ordered it medium, with the fattier parts of the steak just a little chewy and under rendered. There was nothing at all wrong with my frites though, they were golden brown, crispy and seasoned just right. I definitely enjoyed the frites more than the steak, especially those chips at the bottom of the pile that had soaked up the juices from the steak. Yum.

Both of our plates of food were huge, way too huge for a normal person to eat and as a consequence, I'd left a decent amount of my food uneaten. To the credit of the wait staff, they were very concerned that I'd not enjoyed my meal, offering to pack the lot up for us to take home. We had to reassure our waiter a few times that there had been nothing wrong with the food, it was just that the serving size were too big. I guess at that point I could have mentioned that I'd have preferred my steak cooked medium, but given it was my choice to go medium rare, it wouldn't have been fair.

We'd easily finished our meal in the time allotted and made our way out of the joint. It was a quick meal and in many respects it was a simple meal, and for us was a reasonably cheap meal, but somehow it had hit the right spot.

Frites was one of those quick casual dining options that have sprouted across Hong Kong over the last few years. Part of the Concept Creations group, Frites forms part of the group's stable of authentic and affordable 'theme' restaurants. But would I go back? Well, it's probably more a spot for drinking with friends and then continuing on for a meal.

So, I guess I'd have to make some friends ;)

A very disappointing easy dish which I can barely swallow. The pork schnitzel served today was dry on the inside,soggy on the outside, needless to say, flavorless. The over-sized portion simply does not reflect its delicate fine dining atmosphere. If you just youtube:" how to make a golden brown schnitzel", you'll know it should taste exactly the opposite of what they have served, even if you're not a regular Belgium food diner. 餐牌中間亦印有一些sets, 包括:Early Bird Lunch [20% Discount Off] (11:45am - 12:45pm, Mon - Fri); Express Lunch [$128] (11:45am - 3:00pm, Mon - Fri); Express Dinner [$148] (3:00pm - 7:00pm, Mon - Fri). 所以平日來這餐廳很划算,不過用餐當日是周末,我和未婚夫都沒幸享受這些優惠。

既然這餐廳出名靚青口配靚啤酒,當然要order 一客青口試試,餐牌上共有6款不同味道的青口搭配,份量可選擇1/2kilo ($225) 或 1kilo ($375),全部都會另配有薯條及 mayonnaise sauce.

因為本人怕辣亦唔喜歡蕃茄 (雖然我喜歡茄汁),利用 elimination,只剩下either Hoegaarden or Mariniere. 未婚夫問了問侍應意見,最後還是選了較classic 的 Mariniere (即 white wine, celery, garlic and mixed herbs).

Mussel Pot 真的整個pot上枱,侍應打開 pot 蓋後已立即聞到香噴噴的青口和香草味。1/2kg的份量原來都很多,粗略估計超過30隻。青口雖然不是很肥大,但十分之新鮮,一點沙都沒有。配搭白酒、芹菜、蒜頭及香草一併煮,不但沒有蓋過青口原本的鮮味,相反使其鮮味更加突出!

伴碟的小吃都不容忽視,有多士兩片及薯條一包。多士味道偏咸,還是把quota 留給其他美味的食物。薯條熱而且脆,一開始食就停不了口。我這個茄汁迷當然不會放過食薯條沾茄汁的大好機會。同時,未婚夫亦推介了旁邊這個mayo醬。這個醬的全名是Mayonnaise,是一種主要由植物油、蛋、檸檬汁或醋,及其他調味料所製成的濃稠半固體調味醬。醬的質地有少少結身,但味道甜甜咸咸的,都挺特別。

未婚夫選了 fish and frites ($185) 做主食,哈哈,他總是熱愛香口煎炸的食物。

他「些牙」了半塊魚給我,老實說,我認為餐廳除了青口煮得出色外,這個炸魚塊都做得很好很好,甚至比在英國吃的更好味道!魚塊本身的炸粉很薄,所以經油炸後特別酥脆。魚塊本身亦很新鮮,魚肉很嫩滑。這個主食的旁邊同樣配搭了薯條,不過今次的醬是Tartar,正正是麥當勞“魚柳包”的醬汁。

Tartar本身是混合了洋蔥,羅勒,醃黃瓜及熟雞蛋碎,再加入了黃芥末醬。這個醬汁多用來沾海鮮類的炸物,所以跟這個炸魚塊很匹配。其實,薯條沾了這個醬的味道也不錯。

既然有靚青口,當然要有一杯靚啤酒。我不太熟悉酒的類別,侍應介紹了一款偏甜的啤酒給我 -- Hoegaarden Rose ($70/Glass)。這款酒偏甜,帶少量氣,但玫瑰味不重,挺適合女孩子的口味。

一直都呢間餐廳都喺朋友之中嘅foodie list,不過自己一直都未試過,最近中環終於開咗就喺最佳嘅原因去試喇!原來佢開咗喺新落成嘅The Wellington裡面,好靚呀嗰環境。假如一大班人,好似我哋有六個人,就記book得位喇。來到Beigium on the Tap唔食mussels同無嚟過無分別,食叫咗兩個口味嘅mussels,個soupbase好入味,重點我覺得係個麵包同薯條,一定要點個mayo食,我仲用嚟茶埋個麵包食。另外點咗啲appetizer,pasta同其他小食。永遠食到飽飽,總係有位食埋甜品,我哋個個甜品都想試,就叫晒最好味嗰幾個啦! 甜品到好好味,尤其係個Apple Tarte Tatin,有侍應喺你面前server埋單都唔貴,又有氣氛,有好味,一時再返嚟。

朋友試過話可以試下,地點方便,座位係排排坐形式,酒吧格調,有點嘈,適合一班人 happy hour。我們 3 個女仔,試咗 2 款 mussel (喇沙味 + 白酒味) 新鮮好味; cran tian 個餅香脆又小小煙軔; 大蝦 pasta 個汁好好味。沒有點酒,飯後來杯 cappuccino 比相像中好,尚算香滑; 最後來一份 waffle, 好似硬咗 dd。整體吾錯,可以 encore, 下次會試 烤豬手 同 fish and chip。😊

屋企附近新起嘅大廈the wellington,我呢個食家一直想八下呢到有乜好食,咁啱七夕,老公想食扒我又想食mussels,呢到就fits哂~環境裝修得好好,好western; 七點未到已好多人,前面一排happy hours時段;我地dinner想靜d所以被安排入面房~老公個steak & fries $375, 個扒grilled得好香好有炭燒味,配埋個松露牛油更加正!! 但side dish嘅salas嘅汁我唔太鍾意~我個mussels 1/2 kg $225,但因我至愛同兩個人食所以咗1 kg $375,都ok兩個人夠食,佢有好多隻汁,揀咗個white wine汁,味道不太出,但d mussels幾大隻~ 我地兩個個side dish都有薯條,好脆好味~叫錯兩柸可樂,好失望咁貴但俾機禁出黎嘅無氣同好似溝稀咗~Dessert menu見無乜特別,所以無叫~Overall, very nice!! 個steak值得再encore!!!

青口雖然不算大隻,但份量挺多,也很鮮味!

用忌廉汁煮,配香脆多士沾吃,很配合!
薯條也香脆!

整個菜式好好味

Honey點了Slow Cook Ribs Stew $285
最初還以為一如美式Ribs,一整排排骨的,原來是炖肉。

初看樣子,不太吸引。
但是,吃下去,肉很腍,肉味香濃。
而中央是薯蓉,微微牛油香,配紅蘿蔔,解膩。
雖然不及青口惹味,但是,很有家庭炖肉風味!

看樣子,不算大碟,但,好飽肚,我倆吃不完。
