Went there for dinner last week. I didn't really know what to expect since the reviews given here are generally not the best.First, looking at the menu my whole party were already puzzled about what size to order...and we ended up ordering a few Small dish and BOY! they were small!we had a few of the appetizers like the Beef, tuna and salmon. Went there for dinner last week. I didn't really know what to expect since the reviews given here are generally not the best.

First, looking at the menu my whole party were already puzzled about what size to order...and we ended up ordering a few Small dish and BOY! they were small!

we had a few of the appetizers like the Beef, tuna and salmon. They were really well seasoned and fresh, only problem was that they were teeny!! we ordered Large for these and yet it was not enough!

Then we went onto some main course which was all quite good in general. The pasta was al dente and the means were fresh. but still, they were small.

The biggest problem i had was that JUST AS we finished the last entree the waiter came with the menu to ask us if we needed anything else. we said that we will take a look and this other lady came back to pester us. it was as if they were trying really hard to get us out. But if i paid that price for the food, i would apperciate it if i can at least chill there for a bit after dinner!

so at the end of the day, we each paid clost to 200 yet i was still not full. So i am a bit unimpressed about that. But other than that the food was good and the restaurant had a nice vibe to it!

It was my son's birthday, so I wanted to take him to somewhere "in", SML is pretty gimmicky with the different sizes dishes, but the food quality is really disappointing. pasta items were like speghetti house quality, meat dish was not value for money, we ordered 10 dishes of different sizes, but not really that satisfying. Think this is a place that I will only try once!

朋友介紹之下去試, 好采有BOOK 到枱, 去到好多人等位呀~環境舒服, gathering 傾下計都幾好ge選擇, 食物有3個SIZE揀, 不過我覺得食SMALL SIZE 可以食多幾隻唔同款叫左caesar salard, chargrilled port tenderloin pizzaiola, sea urchin pasta, salon tartare, 同埋Chocolate mousse, 最鍾意食pizzaiola, sea urchin pasta 個樣普普通通, 但係D 海膽又幾鮮味喎, salon tartare 就一般囉.

Apart from the Quarry Bay MiscoCool, this is the second restaurant featuring communal tables but in larger lounge. The whole concept is fresh, and vibrant, nice for the young chics and boys to show their pride in a lively lounge. It also reminds me of school dinner days too, a rejuvenation of youth, relive the young days again, sitting amongst other hip and cool people.If you do not fancy being on display, I guess it needs time getting used to, like California fitness gym for a specific part of

Apart from the Quarry Bay MiscoCool, this is the second restaurant featuring communal tables but in larger lounge.

The whole concept is fresh, and vibrant, nice for the young chics and boys to show their pride in a lively lounge. It also reminds me of school dinner days too, a rejuvenation of youth, relive the young days again, sitting amongst other hip and cool people.

If you do not fancy being on display, I guess it needs time getting used to, like California fitness gym for a specific part of the target market.

Anyway, sat down in the middle of a large bench table, people started filling beside us, but there was no one sitting on our left hand sides, so we placed our bags there. We were ushered to place the bag on one side, then a while later, the waiters from the opposite side ushered us to place the bags on the other side, playing shuffling bags here if u've played shuffling chairs!!

Food ordered:
Chicken Confit & Foie Gras with Truffle Salad
Basically two pieces of sliced baguette served with salad and a pot with shredded chicken, bits of foie gras topped with poppy seeds. The chicken was not dry or chewy, and the bits of silky foie gras buttered the chicken, but there was not that much of foie gras. I thought it should have been layered chicken, then foie gras then the poppy seeds.

Prawn Toast with truffle
Same comment as Babedolphin, no taste in truffle, overly greasy, I suppose the bitterness of the alcohol sauce took away that greasy taste.
Honestly I have had better prawn toasts at Takeaways in UK.

Octopus salad in olive oil
This was a very good mixed of diced yellow peppers, leaves, onions and the octopus, the octopus was chopped tentacles which were very big in diameter, I thought the octopus would be chewy, but it wasn’t at all. There was also some sort of jelly that had formed on the octopus, so it is probably the tinned version.

Lamb kebab
This was a huge stick of minced Lamb on a stick, I tried it with the olive oil from the salad, it was quite nice, and the lamb was strongly covered in Cajun powder. The yoghurt sauce that came with it was lovely, pure sour yoghurt.

Mushroom risotto
This had a very strong smell, but not that strong when I ate it, the texture of the rice was a bit hard, like red grain rice.

I was contemplated to order the Hangar steak and chips, but then I decided to order two desserts, which finished the meal quite elegantly! I wanted Gnocci too, but it wasn’t listed on the menu anymore!!

Pot of chocolate w/chocolate mousse & fudge
This was yummy chocolate mousse with bits of chocolate cake covered with white cream and topped with two pieces of fudge.

Lime cream w/vanilla pineapple & coconut jelly
There were bits of coconut jelly with cutely diced pineapple pieces, layered with lime cream at the bottom, refreshingly delicious, leaving you with a slight hungriness that you will be back for more next time.

Lastly, we tried to paid for the bill, but one of the dreaming waiters either forgot to print out the bill or there was something wrong with the order, so had to ask another waiter got it for us.

Price wise, I think it’s quite reasonable for around $300 considering we ordered food with truffles, foie gras. I think for a good meal, its best to pick out the fine stuff rather than the stuff you can get anywhere, or it just defeats the purpose.

There have been much hype about this place recently and I can finally give this a try. First thing first, when I called in to book for a table, I was repeatedly being reminded within that 30 seconds conversation that I only have 1.5 hours to dine and must leave before a certain time! (of course unless I book like 8:30pm or 9:00pm then I MIGHT be able to sit longer!) What is wrong with restaurants nowadays? There are actually a few I can name on top of my head that impose a time limit for diners! I am not eating wonton noodles at some hawkers center for cry out loud, I am paying good money for a decent meal and I expect to enjoy them as long as I want! Anyhow, enough blah-ing from me at the moment and let's get on to the venue and food.

In addition to the interesting figure at the entrance, the main dining area was large and filled with three long wooden table like those school canteen bench. It somehow reminded me of the movie Harry Potter and the long dining table. And yes, due to the setup of the tables and seats, you will be sitting shoulder to shoulder with a stranger. (I think this setup created a certain confusion for wait staff when it comes to serving the right parties, a dedicated server must be assigned to minimize confusion)

While ordering, I noticed something that ... captured my attention. It was not the fact that the place offers Small, Medium and Large dishes for all items as its name SML suggested, it was the menu itself. The menu was bilingual, English and Chinese, but in Simplified Chinese ! I guess the Press Room Group which operates this restaurant has bigger plans ahead of them. Anyhow, the idea of offering small, medium and large dishes was not a new idea, some Chinese restaurants like Lei Garden has some offerings with such options. Nonetheless it was a good idea because there are people who like to try little of many things!

(1) French Fries (M)
I was actually expecting Press Room quality fries but it wasn't. Rather disappointed.

(2) Salon tartare (M)
Nicely presented indeed! Also, we can pick and choose the different garnishes to go with the salmon. The liquid was a lime juice which was actually a good mix. Of course I preferred the quail eggs!

(3) Caesar Salad (L)
Not surprises here as well but it was a refreshing salad to start with. A bit more dressing would be nice.

(4) Crispy Pork Belly + Red Cabbage-apple Coleslaw (M)
It was too fatty. The fatty layers occupied over 50% of the piece of meat! The flavor was a bit too strong and too salty as well. We finished the whole dish by separating the fat from the meat of course! One more thing, it was not served at optimal temperature in my opinion, a thumbs down. (I tried the item as soon as it was served already) Many items must have been semi prepared in one way or the other but they should try to maintain the food temperature as well.

(5) Spicy Lam Kebab + Mint Yoghurt + Onion Salad (M)
A decent surprise indeed. Rich in flavor and meat was tender. However, it was the food temperature that bothered me. Not of optimal temperature for sure! I think it was the fact that most dishes we ordered were served all at once within minutes of each other! (More on this topic below) Anyhow, I love lamb so I can eat as it without the mint yoghurt, give both ways a try.

(6) Grilled US Hanger Steak + Chips (M)
The steak was pre-cut !!!?? I want my steak as a whole piece and I like to cut it myself! There were too much sauce all over the steak and it was at room temperature! (I tried the steak after the crispy pork belly as soon as both items were served) The sauce was very strong that it overtook the beef flavor. Although the beef was tender, the overall impression was disappointing indeed.

(7) Seared Seabass (M)
Maybe it was difficult to pre-cooked fish so it was rather delightful and served at optimal temperature. Very flaky and tender, a well prepared dish. The sauce was light, just enough bring out the fish taste of the seabass. Also, the skin was very crispy as well!

(8) Pot of Chocolate + Chocolate mousse + Fudge (M)
Interesting presentation with chewy fudge cubes on top and chocolate mousse at the bottom. It was rather sweet even with the cream but a very nice dessert to end the meal if you are a chocolate lover like I am.

(9) Caramel Profiteroles + butterscotch sauce (M)
I did not try any but it reminded me of Beard Papa's cream puffs. It looked sweet and according to my friends, it was very sweet indeed with the butter scotch sauce.

One other thing I like to mention ONCE AGAIN was that the food/dishes came almost all at once! The problem? Food temperature! Some items were already served way under the optimal temperature and leaving all the food on the table just worsen the problem. Plus it made me feel like we were being rushed! If you are to come and give it a try, order the items one after another for optimal temperature. It was interesting to find the following words on the menu as well which acted as a disclaimer for my above mentioned compliant: "each dish is served when ready." So ... the serving order of dishes can be quite random since each dish is to be served when ready. Interesting isn't it!

Likes:

* Salon tartare - the do-it-yourself (DIY) elements of the garnishes
* Seared Seabass - finally something of optimal temperature! flaky and tender
* Spicy Lam Kebab - tender and rich in flavors (but not at optimal temperature when served)

Dislikes:

* Grilled US Hanger Steak - too much sauce, sauce too strong and was served @ room temperature + PRE-SLICED!
* Crispy Pork Belly - too fatty with too many fatty layers
* the school canteen seating arrangement might not be for everyone

Avg Spending: HKD 200 - 300 per person

九月上旬‧晴不知何解,總還未有興趣來這裡吃東西,第二次來,也是喝酒。本來見天氣涼涼的,坐露天位置也不錯,但原來坐外邊要自助的,即是要自行買飲品又要自行拿飲品。有見及此,所以一有機會就閃回室內了,除了坐得較舒適,還有人serve,以同一個價錢,明顯划算很多。第一次來喝雞尾飲品,喝得一頭煙,第二次來學精了,就要了較有信心的威士忌。這裡很奇怪,有什麼酒可選,不是放在餐牌上的,問侍應也不明天,而是要客人自行去看酒架上有什麼選擇。又酒架上的酒,擺得不清不楚,行來行去,才可以選好想喝的,奇怪。選了的是Glenfiddich及Macallan,大路選擇,味道方面,不再細述。要了先淨飲,後加冰,也可以照顧得到。在服務一欄,還可以加一點分數。埋單百二,幫襯了兩次,還未有興趣在這裡吃東西。

地方尚算寬敞, 感覺舒適. 由於沒有訂位的關係, 我跟我老公被安排到lounge位, 吃東西要彎下腰, 我倆邊吃邊腰酸背痛~ 慘 但眼見周圍的餐桌位到我們吃完都未填滿...3個size份量個concept很好, 但份量跟價錢不付. 點了細的 tuna sashimi, 吓..只得2塊, 心知不妙, 再來的細的海膽意粉只有1-2小塊海膽放上意粉...真的感覺受騙,而味道只是一般2人結帳$470但我們都不覺得飽.服務我們的侍應態度不錯,不時都會留意我們有什麼需要,收碟都快唯獨是門口的接待, 問他有沒有咭片, 他卻好意外咁話"呢度囉" (樣子示意咁近都睇唔到,唔係嘛) 感覺很差, 不會再有下一次光顧!

First of all, when we called for a waiter to order, he was like dreaming. We ordered mushroom risotto but beef risotto was made instead. When the dish finally arrived, the rice was totally raw and hard. The waiter tried to argue with us that risotto was 'like that' and implied that we had never eaten risotto. Then we ordered cream sauce mussels linguine which turned out to be extremely spicy without reason. I have to say, it was not a very pleasant dinner but they did free us the dessert.

I don't have any comments regarding this restaurant and I do believe I won't have any chance for it as their TERRIBLE PHONE MANNER already drive my appetite away.A couple of fds and myself was planning to have a catch up dinner on 14 Oct (Wed) and I placed an reservation over the phone with SML on Monday. The phone manner with the front desk was like forcing the customer to choose the time slot (I would like to have the table at 7:30pm) and the receptionist confirmed my booking at 7:15pm - 8:45p

The phone manner with the front desk was like forcing the customer to choose the time slot (I would like to have the table at 7:30pm) and the receptionist confirmed my booking at 7:15pm - 8:45pm. It's not making any sense as none of us were able to arrive on 7:15pm, which means we cannot make it until 7:30 and that's the point for us to book at 7:30pm. After settling this issue with the girl on phone to reserve the table at 7:30 and noticed that they can only keep the table for 5-min. (so what's the point for forcing us to make a booking at 7:15? Coz we can NEVER make that)

I then received a confirmation call on Wed afternoon with a very bad phone manner reminding us to be on time and table can only be reserved for 5 min. At the end, we cannot make that at 7:30pm and the restaurant called with a 'blaming' manner & bad attitude: ' We are calling from SML, I just want to remind that your table have been reserved at 7:30pm and it's late now'. 'Well, I don't think we can make that, would u cancel that for me?' I answered. '....... do..do...doo..' she HUNG UP the phone without any response... We are all pissed with her manner and decided not to pay any visit there ANYMORE!!!!

I do strongly believe the restaurant can only drive customer away with these kind of service before they dine in.

好耐冇打過食評, 但今日真係要打返篇....中午十二點半黎到, 我們三個女仔冇訂檯, 佢安排我地坐最近門口的長枱,竟然係一個直角咁坐, 即係有一個坐到好似主席位咁(背脊就係個門口), 眼見好多吉枱, 問佢, 佢話Full reservation,但食完埋單基本上都大把位冇人坐....之後order左食物, 上枱的兩杯Mocha係唔熱的,只係暖暖地, 另外medium size的椰菜花通粉加松露意大利飯, 個通粉好難食, medium晒竟然少到咁, 每人兩啖已經冇, 用快熟通粉加CHEESE焗, 就可賣90蚊. 飯亦唔見得好, 所有野都唔熱, 個外籍經理不停埋黎要排好d chair, 推來推去,但我想講門面野幾好冇用o家, 你就算擺張OSIM o係度都冇用,最基本的食物飲品難食又暖暖地only, bad list都唔得, 要delete先可以咯!!同埋我唔明點解咁鬼做作, 叫完野食又要將你隻碟攝落個menu底,大佬你個menu污糟o家,我隻碟要裝野食, 同埋明明識講中文,大部分人包括侍應同顧客都講英文,好做作咯~但其他人好似好滿意咁, 究竟係其他人要求低定我地唔好彩.... 結果食左四十

同埋我唔明點解咁鬼做作, 叫完野食又要將你隻碟攝落個menu底,大佬你個menu污糟o家,我隻碟要裝野食, 同埋明明識講中文,大部分人包括侍應同顧客都講英文,好做作咯~但其他人好似好滿意咁, 究竟係其他人要求低定我地唔好彩....
結果食左四十五分鐘埋單每人成舊水....都唔知食左乜,要再去第度搵野食....

ok fine, we sat down and we were asked to order some drinks. very normal, as customers, we would reply if they would serve any water like tap water. and the boy replied "Yes" with a very bad face... what an attitude!!!! for a newly opened restaurant, should customers be received this type of service? are they expecting customers to describe their restuarnat like this?

one of my friends the started to talk about the conversation she had with the staff there before. the staff was urging my friend to arrive on time cos they could hold up the table for ONLY 5 minutes. but please don't forget..... i have been already there waiting for 20 minutes, is there really a need to urge.... should there be a better co-ordination in the restaurant.

When all of us were there, we ordered beer/wine and soup, 5-6 starters, 2-3 main dishes. the bill was about $960 for 6 ppl.

after 1 hour or so, we have finished our dinner and we just sat down for a while longer and chit chat, and we have been interrupted 3-4 times whether we would order some more dishes, more dessert, drinks, coffee or tea.....? though we were not full and would like order some more, having received such an excellent service, we decided to check the bill and change to another place for a piece of cake.

this was our first time as well as the last time we had in SML.....

I just went there with my friend yesterday nite. The concept is good, the place is new BUT all I want to mention is the RED WINE (Unfortunately I just order Red wine only). It was incredible small - I had ordered the Large size of Carbernet Sauvignon with HK$84.00, the wine not even half of the glass. Very Very disappointed, i can even have a glass of red wine at Conrad Hotel with the same price!!! P.S. I love red wine. haha

八月十八‧晴相約友台要員商談,地點選了這裡,也好,未試過,也不大有信心在這裡吃東西,就來先happy hour,看看環境也好。餐廳地方頗大,好像IFC Simply Bakery般分開用餐區及喝東西的地方,我們自然是坐在酒吧這一邊。座椅好坐,氣氛也輕鬆自然的,不錯。唯一不好的是可能我們的檯擺得太近露天位置的出口,門關不攏時,都幾大風的。在飲品列中有好幾欄的選擇,我當然是在「Grown ups」那列中去選,要了High Tea。High Tea是以檸檬伏特及冰茶加做底,加上檸檬汁及紅莓汁,另外還有薄荷葉而成。外表看來似一杯Mojiho,味道冰涼,但不好喝,酒精味不重,也沒有什麼其他甜味或酸味,活像在喝一杯有點味道的冰水似我,我不喜歡。所以友台要員們來到,問我有什麼推介飲品,什麼也不說,先叫他們不要喝High Tea。旋風式的談了一會,留下話題與賬單,先行告退。再談。
