There are in fact a list of options, but at the end came up with JW Marriott's Dolce 88 because of the flexible pick-up time it is able to cater. One won't usually pass by this hidden but cosy cake shop at the corner, which offers a surprisingly broad view over the hectic Queensway. I never know that it is a cafe-cum-patisserie, with elegant lighting and marble table by the window where you can either enjoy your solitude with a sip of coffee and pastries, or gather friends for a quick catch-up. "Dolce" means sweet in Italian, while "88" should mean its street number of Queensway? Anyway, it mainly serves pastries, though it serves simply beverages as well like coffee and tea.

Having called and asked for details, I had in mind the several kinds of cut cakes to order, but just to have a look at them before placing my orders, as I was emailed the order form which is a mere price list with no pictures. As per what my foodie friend sugggested, cut cakes here were not in large amount of stock. Cakes that remain in the display cases shouldn't be all it can offer, so do make a call in advance to make sure that your desired varieties are in stock.

The cut cake list that was emailed to me comes in 8 different kinds, mostly priced at $54 (just one at $48). Price is acceptable, given the fame of JW Marriott (though not on its cakes), and is in par with hotels of the same grade. Whether $54 justifies depends very much on how you compare it with others - being a hotel-class patisserie, or simply a piece of pastry.

I managed to pick these cakes up at 9ish as scheduled, though there was an unexpected mishap which made it not as smooth as it should go. My order consisted of 4 different kinds of cut cakes, 3 of which are shown below while 1 of which are panna cotta in glass containers.

I would say this playful-looking tart surprised me with the "Eddy Bros Woody Hat" at my first sight, as I don't expect this kind of creativity from an Italian hotel patisserie. I used to think that Italian desserts are classy and simple, not at the fancy edge. Simply by looking at the cake list with no pictures doesn't draw me in. Its appearance does draw curiosity, let alone how plain its name in fact suggests.

Besides the "hat" with smooth curves made of chocolate, the braid further showed high level of details like an artwork. As the "hat" is topped on a glossy layer which makes a slippery surface when melting, better eat it before having dollops on the tart.

This surely wins the hearts of chocoholics - but not me. I would say it tastes good but not divine, as I can't stand much dense sweetness that decadent chocoholics may enjoy. Perced above the crispy tart is a cake with layers of coffee cremeux (denser and firmer than mousse), chocolate crumbles, chocolate mousse, banana jam and a slice of banana.

"Banoffee" doesn't suggest "banana" plus "toffee" by convention but "coffee" instead. Chocolate and coffee are both flavoursome ingredients which go in a perfect pair and this is no exception. One may feel full easily to finish this all alone, as the creamy and melting texture in mouth does give a fulfilling sensation, but at the same time unctuous to make one fed up easily.

Names and appearance are equally plain, but this is a safe and decent option if you were to choose cakes for a grand occasion that allows no mistakes at all. I appreciate the glass jar with lever arms the most, and the glass layer is thick enough to insulate the panna cotta from external heat. With the reusable glass jar, $54 is a big worth!

Coconut panna cotta is topped with crumbles, fresh mango cubes and a zesty mango "bubble" which bursts into tangy, fruity juice in your mouth (kind of like a molecular design?). Sweetness of mango comes natural and not artificial, which is further balanced off by the freshness and slight savory hint of coconut elements - not only the panna cotta, but also the jelly at the bottom! If you aren't having a sweet tooth, this panna cotta should lure you in by its dominant fruity flavour.

As the glass jar is pretty tall, one may easily finish off the mango and crumbles layer before reaching the bottom. The final digs were all in coconut flavour - both panna cotta and jelly. Still leaving a moreish coconut taste on your taste buds, these two elements are like bringing you down from the climax brought by mango but along a gentle slope - not dropping you from the sky to the earth!

Not having the luck to try the passion fruit tart and strawberry roulade, these two items well live up to my expectation in terms of its delicate design of layers of flavours despite their dull names. I would not say that cakes here are over sweetened as the mango coconut is sweetened at its optimum. Apart from above-average quality of cakes it offers, Dolce 88 may be my next kill-time spot given its tranquility and nice view from seats if I were to stay in Admiralty for some time!

Earl grey infused chocolate mousse cake in the shape of a heart. That looks amazing.

The chocolate mousse was very rich and silky smooth. That's exactly how a chocolate mousse cake should be done (Grade: 4/5)!

When I saw the label "Hong Kong opéra cake", I immediately presumed that the layers of sponge cakes were soaked in Hong Kong style "pantyhose" milk tea instead of the usual coffee syrup. Whether that was the case or not I would never know. It was very sweet but no sign of any milk tea. I have mixed feelings about this because an opéra cake without the bitterness of coffee or Grand Marnier just tasted a little weird (Grade: 3/5).

老朋友豬豬小姐生日,厄佢去JW借廁所,跟住偷雞準備左蛋糕叫佢入黎,呢度得好少位,又係高椅不過環境好開揚又光猛,影相一流candle係東海堂買即刻覺得賣相得意左好多~件裝蛋糕冇得即刻寫名,但可以提供candle ,不過我有自備~叫左3件cake 士多啤梨最貴要$64一件但係最普通,完全唔覺得有咩特別,cheese cake 係三件之中最好味同之前食過既cheese cake 分別好大比較香滑淡淡之士味加少微酸一D都唔漏仲有少少開胃最後green tea 好cream 好厚身,比較甜中間有層朱古力唔算香濃,個人比較喜歡hotel icon green tea opera比較有綠茶苦澀味,味感比較脆同實~

Dolce 88 is one of the signatures.

They got great coffee and decent tea. Many different types of pastries as well. 

The Peach cake tastes exactly as you would expect it to: like a real peach. It is composed of layers of white chocolate mousse and firm fresh peach, the first being lighter than the latter. With some crunchy in the middle, texture is so playful. Full of fun and nice cake art.

The Mango cake, as you may be aware, consists of two layers of crispy thin white chocolate besides in order to stay still for this creamy substance cake. The cake was actually quite light, and yet somehow managed to be filling.

A bit pricy for a normal afternoon break tho, but nice to indulge in once. Great cake is guaranteed.

早2日訂了一個栗子生日蛋糕,老公唔愛食太甜,所以在訂餅時註明了少甜,當食的時候,老公話太甜剌,所以只食了中間的海綿蛋糕,中間的海綿都鬆軟,老公冇食栗子蓉,老公話栗子蛋糕唔係每間都做到我們要的味道,所以我唸如果要食真係建議下次可選擇食招牌款式,雖然今次有少少失望,但將來都有機會再來試其他的蛋糕

一直想到Dolce88吃個包,喝杯咖啡。今日趁時間鬆動便來吃個午餐。地方比想像中小好多,麵包、蛋糕款色也不多。枱面不衛生,有些麵包碎,整個感覺頓時降格😟點了個ham and swiss chesse tomato bread ($40) 、一杯cappucino ($38)。麵包是即點即整,看著她煎火腿,感覺好新鮮。整個麵包熱辣辣,芝士夠溶,好香。但感覺有點油膩,不知道是煎完的火腿出油還是有另外加油煎😕咖啡好濃咖啡味,因這裡是用上double shot加奶。很好👍另外,不太喜歡侍應不會主動把食物或飲品送上。雖說這裡價格與出面的cafe相若,但始終是酒店嘛,不是應該有好少少的service嗎?喜歡它木扽盤這個設計,但至少都因一位侍應把整個扽盤拿給客人。

金鐘,為在下來說,不是用餐地方,就連麵包西餅以至甜品蛋糕,也沒有遇上過,不過最近卻又多了機會可以讓在下這區用餐吧。過去數次來到金鐘,多數是午膳居多,但是今天去了灣仔吃過午飯後,就再轉到金鐘,吃一個蛋糕甜品吧。之前拜讀過有關 Dolce 88 的文章,埋下了要到這裡的種子,今天見時機成熟,又是要到這區工作,擇日不如撞日,就來 Dolce 88 吧!在蛋糕櫃裡,有不少精緻蛋糕,當中有兩三款很想試的,可是只能擇一款,否則在下的胃納也不能容納。熱情果青檸蛋白撻。在下很喜歡這個木製的托盤,很有心思。蛋白唧成波浪型,而且被烘到焦黃,還有一片白古力分隔了熱情果啫喱,再用盛載了檸檬吉士的撻底承托,顯示了那心思的所在。那個充滿檸檬香味的吉士,味道雖然很濃,但卻又不掩蓋了熱情果的香味;蛋白雖已焦黃,但是卻又香滑無比,檸檬吉士也是幼滑如絲,清香無比。撻底十分的堅實,吃一口實在是很脆,亦富牛油的香味。精緻的蛋糕蛋撻,往往都能給予一種悠閒而開心的境地,在百忙裡也可讓自己鬆弛一下,也不是一件壞事!

熱情果青檸蛋白撻。在下很喜歡這個木製的托盤,很有心思。蛋白唧成波浪型,而且被烘到焦黃,還有一片白古力分隔了熱情果啫喱,再用盛載了檸檬吉士的撻底承托,顯示了那心思的所在。那個充滿檸檬香味的吉士,味道雖然很濃,但卻又不掩蓋了熱情果的香味;蛋白雖已焦黃,但是卻又香滑無比,檸檬吉士也是幼滑如絲,清香無比。撻底十分的堅實,吃一口實在是很脆,亦富牛油的香味。

這天行上了山頂,然後想再急步下山至soho,但發現不夠時間,只能在半路叫停的士,請司機帶我到最近的地方,他說金鐘快一點,我便臨時通知TC在金鐘等我。金鐘想找地方坐下風花說月一番其實不是沒有選擇,例如有COVA、Simplelife、Grappa、The Petit Café等等。但這天我卻想去酒店吃蛋糕,而我不是會high tea的人,所以便來了Dolce 88。踏進酒店大堂大部份人都向右走到lounge的那邊,想去Dolce 88的便要向左轉。店的面積很細,座位都是向窗,桌上有些有趣的擺設。雖然是一間小店,賣的食物總類卻有很多,除了蛋糕外,還有macaroon、果仁、鬆餅、三文治及曲奇等等、店內還有售果醬及蜜糖等。當然,還有很多很多不同口味的咖啡。蛋糕種類繁多而且都很漂亮,價錢卻不便宜,但都很大件頭,體積與價錢對比上來也不會說太貴。我們很快便決定好要吃什麼。店員把蛋糕放在木製的托盤上再拿給我們。首先吃的是栗子塔 Monti Bianco,我是一個完全會被栗子擊倒的人,只要見到有栗子口味的都要試。Dolce 88的栗子蛋糕外型與外面的差不多,我有點納悶是否栗子蛋糕都是圓形金字塔的造型。

雖然是一間小店,賣的食物總類卻有很多,除了蛋糕外,還有macaroon、果仁、鬆餅、三文治及曲奇等等、店內還有售果醬及蜜糖等。當然,還有很多很多不同口味的咖啡。

蛋糕種類繁多而且都很漂亮,價錢卻不便宜,但都很大件頭,體積與價錢對比上來也不會說太貴。

首先吃的是栗子塔 Monti Bianco,我是一個完全會被栗子擊倒的人,只要見到有栗子口味的都要試。Dolce 88的栗子蛋糕外型與外面的差不多,我有點納悶是否栗子蛋糕都是圓形金字塔的造型。頂尖上的栗子並不是原粒栗子,也沒什麼栗子味,但明顯是有煮過的,有點失望。

栗子蓉的味道比較淡,一點也不會甜,如果栗子味濃些會更好。由於栗子味不夠濃,我懷疑栗子蓉內栗子肉的份量其實不多,不知是否拌了很多其他的材料。不過值得一讚的是,栗子蓉的份量很多,而且中間是沒有cream的!接近底部有近似芝士蛋糕的蛋糕,而底部就是批底。這個批底很硬,即使用叉也不易分開。

另一款甜點是義大利朱古力鹹焦糖炸彈 D88 Amedei Bomb ($58),炸彈上的造型杏仁很美!這蛋糕用上了名牌朱古力,不過沒有想像的濃。叫作炸彈是由於內裡有爆炸糖。

中間有很結實的朱古力mousse,是我喜歡的質感,因為如果像正常的mousse一般我會嫌不夠稠不喜歡吃,但這種實一點的質地我便不介意。底部是朱古力餅底,比栗子塔的脆一點更好吃。爆炸糖的份量不少,味道被朱古力味蓋過,只有爆炸的口感,挺有趣。

上面提到Dolce88有多種口味的咖啡及飲品供應,TC便試了栗子咖啡沙冰,我喝了少許,不太甜,有咖啡味,感覺仍然是在喝咖啡,而不是一杯有咖啡味的飲料。

我和TC就這樣便消磨了2小時,期間看到有不少人進來買蛋糕及咖啡,很受歡迎。這裡蛋糕的質素是中規中矩,勝在不甜較清及很大件。咖啡選擇多,總會找到一款有興趣的。這兒絕對是我在金鐘與朋友短聚的首選。

當 Dolce 88 還在 2012年頭初試啼聲之時,消息很快已成為熱愛吃甜的朋友茶餘飯後的話題。小店位於JW Marriott 酒店大堂的一角,店內不少傑作都是由當時的酒店行政餅廚 Jason Licker 一手設計,出品一直備受好評,當中以煙燻雲呢拿慕絲蛋糕最為突出。事隔差不多兩年,今日趁著途經金鐘,便特地來逛逛,順便找些心頭好回家慢慢欣賞。想不到的是六時半左右,甜品櫃已接近完全真空!勉強揀了兩件糕點 to go,首選的「雪白朱古力」慕絲 (Snow White Chocolate) 賣相不錯,喜歡藍莓醬帶出味道極大的對比,但白朱古力味比較淡然,整體的配搭不算太協調。另一款選擇栗子 Mont Blanc 蛋糕同樣是中規中矩,外層的栗子蓉不太幼滑,跟內層的海綿蛋糕和忌廉沒有擦出令人驚喜的火花。傳聞 Jason Licker 2012年底經已離職,難怪品質有平穩下滑的跡象。

勉強揀了兩件糕點 to go,首選的「雪白朱古力」慕絲 (Snow White Chocolate) 賣相不錯,喜歡藍莓醬帶出味道極大的對比,但白朱古力味比較淡然,整體的配搭不算太協調。

上次吃過後,發現這裏有一磅裝的蛋糕,是這裏的招牌作朱古力焦糖炸蛋,而且賣相很不錯,於是便訂了。前一晚訂亦可以,效率高得驚人。蛋糕的賣相一流,表面的朱古力醬帶有鋼琴表般的光澤,加上金箔點綴,視覺效果豪華。生日牌以店子的朱古力支撐,感覺賺了一粒朱古力很開心。店方沒給生日刀,便自己找來一把生日刀。切下去疑惑為何這麼硬,放暖一會再切,還是很硬,用力點的後果便是刀斷了,終於明白為何不提供刀,因為膠刀根本不夠力。幾經辛苦分好蛋糕,橫切面是很有層次感的啡色,吃下去,聽到細微的“啪啪”聲,像咬到沙的聲音,不太明顯感覺到爆炸糖。朱古力慕絲很滑溜,內裏還有原粒朱古力,如果不是朱古力迷的話,會覺得很膩。但如果你是朱古力迷的話很推薦你去買,這是一顆蛋糕型的朱古力。
