My friend's workplace recently had some major improvements and decided to treat me a meal. We wanted to try a Michelin restaurant we haven't tried before with free flow champagne to celebrate. Ecriture fits the bill and had our favorite Dom Perignon champagne free flow and we decided to choose this place. Moreover, it seems that out of all Michelin restaurants, only Ecriture can earn Asia Miles. Even if you don't drink wine, the price per meal is a bit more than 1000/person and a 2 person meal t
We arrived and were arranged to sit at a window seat. They introduced their menu especially their signature dish. However, since it was my first time here and given some of the previous comments where they mentioned we may get too full by the end, we decided to skip it this time(which I came to regret) We started off with our celebration with the champagne. It tasted slightly fruity and smooth at first yet has a bold finish. Moreover, despite the price seems quite steep for the free flow package, given the retail price of Dom Perignon 2010, I have to say this is already a bargain.
Even the utensils here are quite detailed and back of the knife blade actually has their restaurant name on it. The Foccacia and the cold cut came. The display of all the starters was stunning. Each was introduced in detail and they explained the order we should eat them. My favourite was the Uni. The citrus inside further enhanced the sweetness and freshness of the Uni and yet it was carefully plated without ruining the overall presentation of the Uni. By the time we finished the seafood(oyster, scallops, uni) and reached the bread, it was still warm and delicious. Despite our server kindly told us to ensure we have more room for the coming courses, I was still able to finish it all
The next dish was the Iwashi. The oiliness was balanced out by the tartness of the bergamot and sweetness of the persimmon and kabocha making it really balanced dish.
The Ham and Cheese came next. They have the usual croque monsieur as well as toast on the side with omelette where the inside was still runny acting like a sauce for the toast. All I can say is.... everything is good with cheese on it.
Next was our main course the Lamb. The roast leg of the lamb comes from a baby lamb so the meat will be succulent and tender and appears white instead of the usual red. Their potato puree was also really fine and creamy like butter itself.
Finally came the dessert. For myself, the more desserts the better but I see the point of other reviewers. I think excluding the fruit, 1 tart/cake per person would be a more reasonable proportion for most people(except me, since my friend only ate 1 piece out of the 3 desserts and I ate the remaining 3(total 9 pieces). The Fukuoka strawberries were sweet but definitely try them first as it will be too sour if you tried the other sweeter desserts.
The King's Tart was light and the flavor of the almond was just right. Like a traditional King's tart, a trinket was placed inside and we were warned to be careful and whoever got it will be blessed with good luck, which my friend got fittingly.
My friend was worried that the apple tart will be a bit too sour but turned out the apple was sweet and juicy.
The chocolate tart was also amazing. It wasn't too sweet even with the caramel and the nuts gave it a nice crunch to it.
It was an amazing experience here and my only regret is not eating the uni tart. Definitely will try it next time.
