My friend and I decided to try out a restaurant in Tai Hang and chose this particular one. The venue was quite small and the decor quite simple, which I don’t really mind if the food is good...
We ordered 3 dishes to share: the ENVY salad, pasta with prawn and the Australian wagyu beef hanger steak. Asking about portion sizes the staff said the salad was substantial, but the steak wasn’t very big (4 oz).
Turned out the salad wasn’t really a salad, but more like an appetiser and it was small.
The steak indeed wasn’t big, that wouldn’t have been an issue had it been real wagyu beef. It didn’t have the texture or the consistency of any wagyu I’ve eaten before. Also it was served on a bed of kai lan(?), so it was almost like a western version of stir fried beef in oyster sauce.
As for the pasta with prawn. The staff informed us they were out of prawns. We were the only table in the restaurant at the time and it was still early, but already ran out of prawns?? Instead they offered us clams as a replacement, however aren’t clams much cheaper than prawns? Moreover there were only 3 clams in the whole dish. For $268 you’d expect a bit more!
At the bottom of the menu there’s a note/disclaimer saying that they don’t serve hot water or tap water because of hygienic and safety concerns, I translate that as “we force you to buy water”.
On the bright side we got 50% discount because we used a certain app. Had we not, the bill would have been over $800 for just 3 dishes and half a litre of still water. At the end we paid $533, but in my opinion that’s still not worth it.
